What an inspirational and entertaining production! By the way, I've seen Col. Fossum before and heard the story relating to the knot used there in space. Evidently, this energetic and inspiring Distinguished Eagle Scout tells the story the same way each time, BUT, there IS a difference between the constrictor knot and the clove, hitch! I recall having the same surprised reaction the first time I heard the story (I think during a national outdoor conference at Philmont). The constrictor knot is initially formed like the clove hitch, beginning with a half hitch, but instead of finishing with an additional and identical half hitch, the constrictor knot subsequently finishes with an overhand knot. (View video: ua-cam.com/video/CSNbDClevPs/v-deo.htmlsi=QEj1yeeZMKhI8qHr). This makes it a very effective binding knot with considerably more holding power. Congratulations to the very impressive Eagle recipient, and God bless Scouting America!
Thanks for the comment and the link to the constrictor knot. Yes. Col. Fossum has great stories, excellent motivational speaker for the younger Scouts & adults! He was gracious enough to let me videotape him when he was a Scoutmaster years ago. I’m glad to see he’s using his experience & expertise to further Scouting. Thanks again for watching.
