    This video really helped address my main concern about the accuracy of measuring pressure without the boot insert-thanks for clarifying that!
    One suggestion: it would be great to see a side-by-side comparison of Carv v1 and v2 on the same boots, with both devices capturing similar data. That would further reinforce the accuracy of v2!

      Although I agree with your comparison test, I think the most important test is whether carv 2 is with skiers learning new skills an improvement over carv 1. For sure, 'All terrain ' is an improvement - the ability to convey what it should feel like from an experts perspective is super emotive but there is also a 'Skill's ' level 1, 2 and 3 that should be reached in these terrains. Instructors also give morale support and safety support to timid skiers. Group lessons can be a way to really enjoy a ski holiday as well - of course, I'm now fully off-piste.

    Congrats to the Carv team! I am a founding member and the Carv1 helped me get to level 146. I burnt through 2 batteries and 3 insoles :-) But that's OK. I love your product and will continue to sponsor and buy. So now I just got the Carv 2 and am excited to try it out in Dec and break 150:-) Let's see if I will miss the pressure metrics, but I am sure it remain a great companion when skiing alone without friends to provide feedback.

    My main concern is losing the data on weight distribution across the foot, which was one of the key reasons I was excited to purchase Carv. Is the new sensor able to replicate or approximate this in some way, or is it not essential to proper ski technique? I remember the original Carv emphasizing the importance of weight distribution for improving form from the ground up.

    Speaking as an early intermediate skier who used Carv 1 last season and will be using Carv 2 this season, I suspect this transition has more to do with manufacturing efficiency and ease of use than technical accuracy BUT you've convinced me that anything lost in technical accuracy will be more than compensated for by flexibility of use.

    Honestly I didn't feel the need of a digital coach off piste where you probably look for silence immersing yourself in mother nature. "Carv" means carving which means technique on groomed slopes. By removing some metrics (like external and toes pressure) I fear that the accuracy will be downgraded. Being an IQ 146 exactly the opposite of what I was looking for . I'll give a try to Carv2 but I believe that I'll soon come back to my well working Carv1 if the full range of metric is still working. Could the Carv team confirm that using Carv1 with the new app the external pressure will continue to be detected, as well as the toes movement?

    • @andrey-pro-0
      @andrey-pro-0 2 місяці тому +2

      I understand from explanation on website that new model doesn't use any pressure metrics, and as IQ 148 I share your frustration. From cost-reduction point of view it definitely makes sense: one model and one handling for both gen1 and gen2.
      I'm willing to give new carv model a try, but pressure metrics were super important to me (outer vs. inner ski and forward/back balance) so I don't have my expectations too high

    Hi Carv, I'd be interested to know how you can distinguish a carved turn from a skidded turn. In both cases you have a curved path, skis on edge etc. I assume you cannot model sidecut or effective sidecut so how do you know if a turn is carved vs skidded?

    Is carv2 device different from carv1 besides the lack of the insert? Will carv1 still capture the same level of data as carv 2 in the updated app? Could you explain a bit more?

    • @CarvSki
      @CarvSki  Місяць тому

      Carv 2 measures 10 performance metrics, including most of the existing metrics used in Carv 1 - as these were also coming from the motion sensor. We can no longer measure the outside pressure metric or early weight transfer, but instead we have been able to detect a really powerful new metric called transition weight release, using acceleration to detect your unweighting.
      There is a big upgrade in the app for Carv 2 (and existing Carv 1 users) - by focussing more on motion we've invested in showing the actual turn shape you skied, and overlaying data so you can diagnose where things are happening in the turn. That is a game changer for many skiers.

    So are we saying that first 10-20 seconds of each run are throwaways? For small mountains this would be very suboptimal.

    • @CarvSki
      @CarvSki  2 місяці тому

      No - first 10-20 seconds of your day the sensor is working out where it is - but it doesn’t just do this skiing it also does it on the lift and walking around - so the sensor can locate it self as you get to the top of the run
      We wouldn’t recommend flipping the sensor upside down between each run - but small adjustments should be ok

  • @Goggleboxing

    Smooth carpet is way different to irregular profile, hard/soft-ness and slipperiness of real ski conditions. The orientation and acceleration/impact/vibration sensing in these new devices must be so much more sensitive and the interpretation of the data must be a huge data crunch. Love the tech.👍 Proprietary secrets aside would love to know (roughly) how much of a step change the tech and compute is. Is it all onboard or some offloaded to paired phone?
    Can it cope with a loosely fixed powerstrap or does it need a close cinch for reliability of measurement. Fixing to backside of boot might be "safest" for device to avoid most impacts from user accidents although if at top of cuff it will get a clattering from ski-lifts...hmmm. Maybe on the front of boot in front of ankle? Would probably need a durable low profile mount (2-strapped around back and sole) mount that can be easily fitted to boot and then the sensor clipped to like a bike light.

    • @CarvSki

      As someone who used books, videos, gear change and instruction to learn to ski I don't think this would have helped me although it could possibly let you know if you are able to achieve a racing edge angle. I just bought race skis to try that with. By buying race skis and expert boots once I had got to intermediate level I knew I would not be able to blame my gear for my falls which was the case with the intermediate skis I bought but I had no idea how fast I would progress.
