@@m.a.henderson1827Cell basically doomed himself by going into the past. He alerted Trunks to his plan, and forced Trunks to become more powerful than he would’ve needed from being Perfect Cell.
main problem with time travel in general is you can't travel back to your original timeline once you've altered the past (you can only travel to the altered past's future, unless you go back in time again to prevent yourself from altering the past in the first place).
In dragon ball z's case, it's not like this because the event of trunks going back in time ultimately created a new timeline, which doesn't affect his own.
The official timeline is actually just wrong, and a little poorly thought out. This is what _actually_ happened: *Timeline 1* = _Original Timeline:_ Goku kills Frieza when he arrives back on Earth. Goku later dies of the heart disease. The Z Fighters are killed by Dr. Gero's Androids. Bulma builds the time machine and Trunks goes back in time to save Goku. Trunks returns from the past and then waits a year before going back. When he returns from his second trip to the past, he returns with the Blueprints for the Androids and creates the destruction device. Trunks uses this device to destroy the Androids. Three years later Cell shows up, kills Trunks, and then travels back to the past to find the Androids. Only Bulma survives and presumably the Earth is rebuilt by the surviving humans. Buu probably never shows up due to the Z Fighters not being present. *Timeline 2* = _Unseen Timeline:_ Trunks arrives from the future and kills Frieza before Goku arrives. Goku survives the heart disease due to the vaccine given to him by Trunks. Trunks warns the Z Fighters about the Androids and then leaves back to his timeline. After a year, Trunks comes back to the past. He finds the blueprints for the Androids and takes them back to the future. Trunks never returns, having been killed in the future by Cell, and the Z Fighters have to fight the Androids without him. They are victorious against the Androids, and Cell doesn't appear in this timeline until the year 788 (21 years after Trunks left with the Blueprints). Cell, having matured from his fetal form into Imperfect Cell, emerges to find the Androids have already been destroyed. It is unknown if the Z Fighters survived their fight with this Cell (though it is very likely), or if Buu ever shows up in this version of the timeline. *Timeline 3* = _Main Timeline:_ Cell, after killing Trunks in the Original Timeline, travels back in time to the year 763 and creates a new version of the past. Having had to revert into an egg form in order to fit into the time machine, cell has to wait 4 years in order to mature back into his Imperfect form. When Trunks travels back in time from the Timeline 1 to save Goku from his heart disease, this time he arrives in this new version of the past that has been altered by Cell's arrival in 763. Trunks kills Frieza before Goku arrives. Trunks warns the Z fighters about the Androids and then travels back to his own timeline. A year later, he returns to the past and finds the blueprints for the Androids. They discover the Old Time Machine from the picture, and they deduce that something has gone wrong. Trunks this time doesn't go back to his own timeline to destroy the Androids with the Blueprints, but instead stays and helps the Z Fighters defeat the Androids in this timeline. The events of the Android and Cell Sagas takes place in this timeline. Trunks returns to his own future. The Buu Saga takes place some years later, as well as the events of Dragon Ball Super. *Timeline 4* = _New Future Timeline:_ Trunks returns to the future from Timeline 3 and proceeds to destroy the Androids with ease, due to the strength he had gained from his time with the Z Fighters in Timeline 3. 3 years later Imperfect Cell emerges, and Trunks defeats him easily as well. Trunks defeats Dabura and Babidi and prevents the resurrection of Buu. The events of the Goku Black Arc then takes place, leading to more timelines being created (I won't go into those for now).
no, just no. Don’t make timelines up man. Trunks kills Imperfect Cell in the future timeline just after trunks destoys the androids, stopping cell from taking the time machine. It is in the anime.
There will eventually be an imperfect cell born in timeline 4, right? A couple of years after the incidents. A cell which goku and gohan will have no trouble in killing.
Oh yeah, that's true. That particular Cell (TL4) funnily enough is screwed over by (TL3) Trunks whom is killed by (TL3) Cell. Which is like multiversal karma.
Not if Trunks destroys Gero's lab in TL4. After discovering the blueprints to deactivate the Androids, Trunks would've probably blown up Gero's whole lab to prevent it from causing any further havoc.
Time Travel Works In Dragon Ball based off Second Dimensional Time Travel, the minute you time travel in dragon ball your interference causes the creation of an alternate timeline. It’s the idea that every time someone travels across the timeline they create duplicate timelines where things can go differently called alternate timelines which stray from the original timeline. It’s similar to The Multiverse’s Butterfly Effect Theory, except in that theory it states every decision you make as a person either creates a Parallel Universe where you made a different choice, the opposite choice usually or it already exists. The Difference is that despite being used interchangeably, Parallel Universes aren’t created inherently by time travel whereas Alternate Timelines are created by Time Travel. Let’s go over similarities and differences between Alternate Timelines & Parallel Universes. I usually call Alternate Timelines low level Multiverses because they usually exist by someone altering time or the events in the timeline which creates them. Sounds similar to The Butterfly Effect in The Multiverse. However By The rules of The Butterfly Effect, Parallel Universes are made by someone making choices in the given moment which creates new realities where the person made the opposite decision. That’s usually how Parallel Universes come into effect. I think the difference being when messing with time, alternate timelines are made but with Parallel Universes , making any decision in every day life creates a Parallel Universe or multiple Parallel Universes where differences happen. The Similarities just being making a decision in every day life creates a Parallel Universe and messing with a Timeline creates Alternate Timelines but Parallel Universes are described to have differences regardless of your choices based on the many worlds interpretation which means they exist regardless of whatever happens to the timeline. Alternate Timelines on The Other hand require Time Travel to occur. The type of time travel in Dragon Ball is Second Dimensional Time Travel which creates Alternate Timelines. Alternate Timelines are Low Level Multiverses. There similar to Parallel Universes in a Multiverse but aren’t exactly the same. Parallel Universes are described to either (be created by any decision you make causing a Parallel Universe to exist where you make a different choice.) or (described to already exist since you making a decision in one universe, naturally there’s another where you made another decision. Sometimes that can be considered to be the opposite decision. Parallel Universes are also described to have natural differences that exist regardless of making any decisions.) Alternate Timelines on the other hands exist by time traveling specifically. A Parallel Universe can theoretically exist regardless of time traveling, but alternate timelines require the action of traveling forward or backwards in time to exist. For Example: Luke Skywalker In The Empire Strikes Back having a vision of his friends in danger and possibly dying if he doesn’t save them fits more into Parallel Universe territory because despite him having what can be considered a future vision through the force he’s only seeing a possibility based on his choices. When he confronts Yoda & Ben Kenobi about deciding to go save his friends instead of continuing his training, under some parallel universe rules , his actions cause the existence of a universe where he didn’t decide to try & save them in order to honor what his friends fight for and train long enough to be ready to face the Sith instead of risking that chance on rescuing them from potential death. That’s an example of a Parallel Universe dilemma. However The Flash going back in time to prevent his mother’s murder on the other hand is more of Alternate Timeline Territory because time travel is involved. That’s more of an Alternate Timeline Dilemma. Alternate Timeline: New Timelines Alternate to the original Timeline when you alter Time (Past , Present or Future) Alternate Dimension: Realms or Reality Usually smaller than Whole Universes and separate from average space in their own bubbles of existence. Parallel Universes: Realities that are created or exist based on your everyday choices & decisions. Any choice you make in life means a reality exist where you did something else, or Realities created based on whatever exists one way in a Universe, will exist another way in a parallel universe. These are the traditional definitions of these terms but people use them interchangeably now and some more modern definitions see The Multiverse and Time Travel as the exact same thing rather then sibling concepts like they were understood originally which further causes this confusion. On top of that modern entries in franchises like DC, Marvel & Star Trek use the two interchangeably so people who are first introduced to concepts like Parallel Universes & Alternate Timelines see them as the same. Sometimes they’ll use them Traditionally like The DC CW Arrowverse with The Flash Show which very well explains the differences between the two. Either way, Future Trunk’s timeline and other timelines that exist are still tied to Universe-7, because there all timelines that exist within the same Universe, just branched off from the prime timeline. Future Trunks Timeline was originally the prime timeline and the one we follow in The Android & Cell Saga was considered an alternate timeline but Dragon Ball Super probably retconned this later because The Gods see Trunks’s Timeline as an alternate future, either way it’s established time travel was crime by The Gods in Dragon Ball which is why Bulma’s Time Machine got destroyed, and since Zeno can have doubles created of him by alternate timelines, that means The Gods & Angels can’t control time travel like they can control The 12 Universes which is probably why it’s outlawed by them. This Implies Alternate Timelines of These 12 Parallel Universes can probably exist regardless of how The Gods & Angels run their limited Multiverse, which to me is fascinating.
I'm just gonna steam role through my interpretation of everything * Timeline 1: Goku defeats Frieza/Cold; Goku dies of heart virus; Androids 17 & 18 terrorize the planet; Trunks travels back in time to give Goku the cure. * Timeline 2: Trunks defeats Frieza/Cold; Goku survives the virus; Androids 19 & 20 are defeated; Trunks returns to his time (Timeline 1) with the schematics for Android 17 & 18 (this return trip creates an other timeline due to an alternate version of Trunks traveling to the exact same point in the future [this is elaborated on later, but for now this Trunks will arrive in Timeline 4]). * Timeline 4: Trunks returns from Timeline 2; The Androids are disabled and destroyed; Cell kills Trunks and uses his time machine to travel back to Timeline 2 one year before Trunks originally traveled back and defeated Frieza/Cold (though frankly I'm not sure why the time machine didn't take him back to Timeline 1, one year before Goku defeated Frieza/Cold). * Timeline 2 (cont'd): Cell arrives; Cell's presence (namely the time machine and his fight with Piccolo) result in a new timeline (Timeline 3) where Trunks decides to stay instead of leave with the schematics. * Timeline 3 (the timeline we experience): The events of the Cell saga take place; Trunks becomes stronger and returns to his original timeline, Timeline 1. However, Trunks returns to Timeline 1 twice: once in Timeline 2 with the Androids' schematics (when there was no Cell), and once in Timeline 3 after the events of the Cell games. Theoretically they should have run into each other given that they both returned to the exact same point in the future (which would have created a paradox). Therefore, a new Timeline must have been created for both Trunks' - Timelines 4 & 5 - with Timeline 3 Trunks going to Timeline 5. * Timeline 5: Trunks destroys Android 17 & 18; Trunks defeats Cell. There are a number of problems with this that I'm aware of, but this is the best I can do without a definitive explanation on how time travel really works in the DBZ universe. There's the problem of Trunks returning to the future for the first time which theoretically should have just taken him to Timeline 2's future, but instead it took him back to his timeline (Timeline 1) which makes no sense due to the double Trunks paradox. This forced me to created Timeline's 4 & 5 which implies that each time someone time travels, an alternate timeline is automatically created if a paradox would occur. In any case there are many more problems to fish out of this, but I'm at my limit with this explanation. Thanks if you read until the end.
The Timelines that Trunks Created Traveling through Time Should of Splintered off into More Parallel Realities so Trunks Created a Multiverse of Madness.
@@jameshollister8294No, that's the original timeline (3) if I understood correctly. Timeline 2 is the new future timeline that "splits" from the original timeline when Trunks returns to his future after Cell games.
1 mistake. Timeline 4 has a Cell. Because the paradox that creates TL4 occurs AFTER Cell goes to the past, Cell is present in 3 and 4. Trunks leaves TL4 with the blueprints and never returns to TL4 because he dies. However Cell is around, he Perfects, and this creates the Cell Games without Trunks as stated in Daizenshuu 7. In TL1 Bulma is alone. Cell is gone to the past, and there isn't enough energy for Babidi to revive Buu but he should still come for the egg. So what happens there?
Timeline 1 is the main one, the one we follow through all dbz, so Bulma isn’t alone. The cell from timeline 1 (born in timeline 1) is killed by krillin and trunks (the one who ends in timeline 2). The other cell that is in timeline 1 is the one who comes from timeline 3 (after killing the trunks who went to timeline 4 before dying)
Its briefly recounted in the future trunks arc. Trunks trains with supreme kai to fight babidi, supreme kai dies and trunks unlocks ssj2 and kills dabura and babidi preventing buu from being revived.
T4 Cell would emerge 24 years later, but would be destroyed immediately either by those current Z fighters or Buu if he managed to defeat them. We don’t know for certain since its the unseen timeline.
You explained it well. My only 2 questions now are: 1) in episode 143 (age 767) imperfect cell tells piccolo that his fetal self would be awaken in 24 years. So shouldn’t this mean that cell would kill trunks in the future in age 791 instead of age 788? 2) in that same episode, piccolo says he understands and says that cell killed trunks in the future and went back to the original coordinates that trunks had put. So why were the coordinates put for 1 year before freeza and Goku arrived?...since that’s when cellfirst traveled back in time
Got it. So just to recap for my own sanity: > Timeline 3 (T3) is the original timeline where Goku dies from the heart virus and all the Z fighters succumb to the androids. > T3 Trunks goes back to the past and kills mecha Frieza, creating T4 > T3 Trunks discovers the Blueprints of the androids and goes back to his timeline > He deactivated the T3 androids but unfortunately is killed by T3 Cell in 788. > T3 Cell travels back to the past but not to T4, since T3 Trunks did not know of the existence of the old ship creating a paradox. Cell therefore creates T1, the main timeline. > Because of Cell’s existence, this time Trunks is aware of the time machine. He decides not to go to the past therefore creating another paradox. > This Trunk that we knew as T3 Trunks becomes T2 Trunks (The Trunks that doesn’t get killed) > However since Cell basically needed someone to kill and hijack their time machine to come to T1 in the first place, T3 continues to exist while branching off into T2 > T3 Cell (Our Cell) is defeated by T1 Gohan and T2 Trunks returns to his timeline. > There he defeats the T2 androids with his power as well as T2 Cell. > To summarize, T3 was the original timeline while T1 was created as a result of T3 Cells paradoxical interference (as was T2 so Trunks could contjnue to exist) > T4 was the “original” main timeline and the only one that was created as a result of a changed event rather than a paradox. It is confirmed that it follows the T1 timeline up to the Cell Games but just without Trunks being present. We don’t know anything beyond that, so for all we know, Cell might have actually succeeded. interestingly enough, this is an entirely different Cell altogether (T5 Cell) that branched off of T3. We know this because T1 Cell was destroyed by Krillin and Trunks, T2 Cell by T2 Trunks, T3 Cell by T1 Gohan and T4 Cell presumably the same as T1.
So the orginal z timeline is peaceful but all hero’s of earth are dead including communication with king kai and the complete extinction of the sayian race but atleast it’s peaceful now
If future Trunks was going to the past to tell the Z fighters that he defeated/shut down the androids, why did he set his time machine coordinates to go further into the past?
This was amazing, My Dragon Ball fan.... Because i watch all time DB, DBZ, DBGT, Super all story episode 😁 Dawn I never seen that for real dawn Cell saga. At 4:30 i remember that Truck appear time travel after Truck saw a dead body android 19 and Goku get injury with virus heart. I never knew Truck person timeline. That correct... Here, i watch what happened Dragon Ball Super Truck future end of the world very sad.
Tbh.. This Timeline thing makes much MUCH more sense now to me! Thanku so much 🙌 It's a causal loop! One event happens cuz of the other but the latter one is responsible for the original event!
I've got a couple things I'd like to discuss with you. Cell says "we could have added Trunks's cells to the line, but we had enough Saiyan samples." This implies that the time Cell comes from had Trunks visit when Frieza arrived. Also, in your explanation, why would the new timeline 4 created by Trunks deciding to stay because of Cell in 767 now all of a sudden not have Cell arrive from the future 4 years prior? Wouldn't all events that occur before the creation of a new timeline still happen? Lastly, if timeline 4 Trunks (that didn't decide to stay) was the one that cell eventually killed in timeline 3 when he went back, wouldn't there have been 2 Trunkses in timeline 3? That one as well as the one that did end up staying. At least up until Cell tries to hijack the time machine. Let me know what your thoughts are. Can you tell I loved your video and watched it a lot? Great video!
Looks like you never got an answer to your first question. I don’t understand either how Timeline 4 got created by Trunks leaving then getting killed in his future.
Simple. Bad writing. They didn’t think that deeply about it therefore made the error. But we all know it’s literally IMPOSSIBLE for cell to be from the original timeline that had trunks destroy the androids. It was goku.
For your first question, i think it's just the wrong Flashback on the wrong time. When Cell said about Trunks, he didn't mean the Trunks who kills Frieza (after all, Daisenshu 7 says that Goku kills Frieza on Cell's Timeline), but actually he was saying about the Trunks who fought the Androids along side Gohan. We know that the computer was programmed to continue Cell's creation even after Dr. Gero's death, so that would make sense. The problem is the animators put the scene where Trunks kills Frieza (probably because they not want to animated a Goku VS Frieza battle just for a Flashback) and that caused a confusion, but it's just a theory (the same occur in DBS when Goku Black explain why he hates the mortals and TOEI just put the Zamasu VS Goku Flashback, even that Black never fought Goku before become Goku Black). For the second question, it's because Cell arrives 3 years after. Every time a new Timeline is created, a Link is stablished and all Timelines passes at the same Time (this was said by Bulma on the DBS Manga). For example, Trunks was on 785 (Timeline 3) and Travel to 767 (Timeline 4). Cell kills Trunks on 788 (Timeline 3), so, no matter whatever happens, the other Timelines won't be affected by Cell until Timeline 3 reach the year 788 in order to Cell kills Trunks and steals his Time Machine. I know, it's hard to understand, but if you think deeply it makes sense (at least for me). And for the third question, it was the hardest to me to figure out but, maybe it's because when Timeline 1 was created (Trunks saw Cell's Time Machine) the Timeline 2 was created at the same time? And then Trunks goes back to Timeline 2 and not to Timeline 3? That would be the only explanation to why there isn't 2 Trunkses when Trunks kills Cell. (Sorry my bad English)
Cell saying "we could have added Trunks's cells to the line, but we had enough Saiyan samples" its an mistake. Its ignored in Daizenshuu 7 timetravel chart
2:46 There is a problem: They find the time machine-used by Cell-before they find the Cyborg blueprints. They also find it before meeting Cell and understanding what it is. So, they find the blueprints and investigate the doctor's basement only after meeting the future Cell. Therefore, Trunks could not go back to the future with the blueprints without knowing about Cell, because he finds the blueprints precisely because of Cell's revelation 🤔
How did Trunks kill Cell from Timeline 3 if that same Cell traveled back in time to History Of Trunks? Wouldnt that Cell not exist due to him traveling to the past? 🤔
When Trunks went back to the future he split the timeline into 3 and 2 by killing the androids and cell. Therefore there is a timeline where cell kills Trunks and goes back in time (Timeline 3) and one where he is killed BY Trunks (timeline 2)
History of trunks timeline IS cells timeline that’s the thing. Trunks and cell are from the exact same timeline but it’s the change of the outcome for trunks that splits the timeline from that point (788)
That because he explained it wrong. Trunks doesn’t kill Cell in timeline 3…. The moment Trunks returns to his timeline. A new one is created, timeline 4. Trunks in no way interacts with OG 3 timeline. The paradox was created long before that.
People always try to use the logic from the perspective of the characters in the show. To put it simply they don't know how time travel works. It doesn't mean it's not valid it just means they don't understand how new timelines are created. Basically there are literally infinite numbers of variations of the timeline. We just view them from a linear perspective.
It's easy to see the two different future timelines. One where Trunks turns off the Androids, Cell sneaks up on Trunks and kills him and steals the time machine. The other where powerful Trunks destroys the Androids and Cell with his bare hands
But there has to be a split in time where cell kills trunks and never goes back or one where he never discovered and didn't kill trunks which would be two additional time lines
This basically confirms that the cell reborn arc will come from the unseen timeline where trunks didnt have any surprises and went back to his original time while cell was never destroyed or even discovered
Ok I know this video is 4 years old by now but hopefully it reaches someone because I have a problem with this theory..... You said that in Timeline 3, the Original timeline, it was GOKU who defeated Freeza & Cold in 764. Then Later in that SAME timeline, The ORIGINAL timeline, you said CELL kills future trunks in 788 and travels to Timeline 1. The problem here is, CELL can NOT come from timeline 3, where GOKU killed freeza and cold. Because when CELL was explaning his Origins to Piccolo and how he has everyones DNA, he said GERO got FREEZA's DNA when he arrived on earth before TRUNKS killed freeza. He also explained that GERO decided not to get TRUNKS DNA because they had enough SAIYAN information already. So the CELL we know come from a timeline were TRUNKS killed freeza and cold. NOT from the original timeline were GOKU killed freeza and cold. So we're is CELL from then???
How do you know that trunks stayed only one year in the future to refuel the time machine. Is it mentioned anywhere else? I haven't heard about it anywhere
i think he got it from super when it took bulma 1 year to collect the fuel needed to travel back in time to get help from goku & Vegeta to stop black but this is wrong. it's revealed in dbz kakarot that it takes 8 or 9 months (forgot which) to recharge for a full trip. he must've assumed bulma only collected enough fuel for 1 full trip, but she collected at minimum enough for 2 full trips.
They literally state it takes 8 months to a year to get enough fuel for a round trip so unless 784 is a brand spanking new year, then yeah it would be 785
If trunks dies in his timeline, ' the one goku dies' how is he alive for the timeline where he saves Goku? So what, Cell going back to the past, restarts the timeline?
Trunks from timeline 3 784 travels to timeline 4 (unseen) 764 to kill Frieza and King Cold, giving Goku the medicine and tell the Z fighters about the Androids
So the cell that was still in the Gero’s lab in the main time line is the cell from the future that killed trunks. Since trunks and cell were babies in the main timeline. So by cell arriving one year early in the past makes trunks one year too late on returning to the future where he is killed. Correct me if I am not entirely right
Nope your are confused buddy, the cell that killed future trunks stole the Time Machine arrived before frieza and cold came to earth, started the cell games and was killed by ss2 kid gohan. That cell was from the orginal timeline the one where goku uses instantaneous movement to take out frieza and king cold dies from virus, then the androids then story of trunks
if im not mistaken bro, I believe cell said that Gero had a extra lab hidden underneath so when the explosion happen he wasn't damage. the cell that killed trunks in the alternative timeline and stole his time machine when he found out that the androids was deactivated.
What timeline did cell come from and what timeline is the future trunks also? because the future trunks that got killed by cell and the future trunks now are different right?
@@jaybeecaranza9471 cell came from the original time line(3) aka cell timeline. the future trunks came from timeline 2. in timeline 1 : cell is killed by gohan. timeline 2: future trunks kills android 17 and 18 by being strong, and kills cell. timeline 3 : trunks kills android 17 and 18 with the device and got killed by cell (the one that origined from, and go backs with the machine to our main timeline(1) to fight the fighters and got is perfect form and got killed by gohan ).
Yea but only because Trunks went back in time to discover it for her. Theres the timeline were he finds it and returns to old bulma in timeline 3. And a timeline were he stays and lets present Bulma make the switch, then creates a paradox where the androids die, thus making timeline 4
I understand now, cuz it always confused me hope cell was able to kill trunks in his timeline, that trunks didn't train and get stronger but destroyed the androids with a remote
Wait so trunks had the blue prints and defeated the androids right? He then leaves his time again but cell kills him then we see the time was set 4 years before frieza and stuff which means… TRUNKS WAS GONNA LET THEM DIE?
the thing thats so interesting is we don’t actually know how many times Trunks time traveled. We are only shown what plays out in the series, the Manga, and History of Trunks etc I agree with everyone else here about the plotholes and they may very well be mistakes by Toriyama. Thats why the “Unseen Timeline” is important. Question is, how many “Unseen Timelines” are actually out there When Cell explains his origins to Piccolo, he specifically states he simply “pushed a button, the time machine was already set” to go back. Thats a clear contradiction to Piccolo’s rationale when he says “he must have tried to come back to tell us he defeated the androids” WHY WOULD TRUNKS travel a whole year before the Z fighters even knew who he was, before Frieza. It would be pointless. Then Cell states he could taken the DNA from Trunks when he fought Frieza. HOW COULD CELL even know about the fight because the timeline he came from is the one where Goku kills frieza and he personally kills older Trunks later on to obtain the time machine
Theres something i dont understand or its confusing me ,If someone could answer , idk if in the anime its different but in the manga , it is assumed that trunks from the unseen timeline wanted to go back to tell everyone he found a way to deal with the androids, but cell said that trunks was the one who set the time machine to year 763 of the main timeline , but why would trunks go this far back in time to tell them about something the main timeline have no idea about and even who is trunks?
This explanation makes Sense. trunks from t3 went to timeline where Cell never came to interfere thus trunks wasn’t strong enough to kill the androids and used device and eventually died to cell leading to t1 and t2 making trunks from t2 to become strong enough to kill the androids and cell in t2
So did Trunks also bring the Goku from time-line 4 the Medicine? So time-line 4 is one either with a healthy Goku who can destroy the androids, and no cell OR one where Goku dies, Androids win and just casually kill tiime till cell is born? Or is that a 4a 4b scenario?
I must go check. I remember that when we were kids we used to say that Trunks created *FIVE* timelines. This video explains everything clearly, so I must go back check why we thought there was a 5th one. Honestly, right now I can't remember.
@@yohhh6715 I just remember about this video and that I never actually replied. Either We counted the timeline where Cell kills Trunks a different one and not part of the TL3 (because not canon anymore), or We counted a new timeline, after Trunks and Crilin destroyed Cell in the secret lab, in TL1, because that Cell never had the chance to kill Trunks and take his time machine. So there must be a future where Cell never had the chance to "born"... that can't be TimeLine 1, because Cell DO exist in that one, even if he came from another one... I think that was the point (at the time).
Oh, wait! I just remember another thing: when they wished to bring back to life EVERYONE killed by Cell (except King Kai, for some reason) the Trunks Cell killed to steal his time machine should be brought back to life too. That could create ANOTHER timeline.
No so what happened was there was an original trunks or timeline one (in order) trunks (the one we don’t know) travelled in the past and created timeline 2 and bulma created a the remote for the androids then kills the androids in timeline 2 then goes back to timeline 1 to kill the androids and is successful but then cell kills trunks and steels the Time Machine then creates timeline 3 the original timeline or the future trunks timeline everything happens the same like the z fighters all die but then the difference between timeline 3 and timeline 1 is that cell is hiding in timeline 3 to try to find the androids but then trunks (the one we know ) goes back in timeline everything happens then creates timeline 4 (the main timeline) gives Goku the antidote and the androids appear then cell also appears because he was hiding and the rest is history
I wish we learnt more about timeline 2 and 3 as we don't get see much of the events that happen there and we don't know what happens after like timeline 2 the unseen timeline we don't see what happens after the z fighters defeat the androids and we don't know hiw they deal with the otger events that happen like the cell of that timeline and how they deal with buu and how strong they become?
My question is, From where did Trunks arrive in the main timeline-1 that we see in the anime? In timeline 3, he dies. From timeline 4, he goes to timeline 3. Timeline 2 has the Trunks who went there from timeline 1. So how the heck he was there in timeline 1?
No t3 is the original timeline, t3 trunks is the one who kills frieza and cold, then gives Goku the antidote then returns to t3 deactivates the androids, then is killed by cell, cell takes his time machine goes back 4 years before t3 trunks made his first trip then that creates a paradox making trunks stay and train with Vegeta.
must be a very sad future for Bulma as his son was killed by future Cell. To make things worse, she probably never knows her son was killed, it's just simply that his son never returns from his trip to the past, as Cell has taken his Time Machine. But I assume the Earth will return to peace in this timeline, as there is no Androids, no Cell, not even a single Z fighters nor Dragonballs.
My question is why did alternate future Trunks set the time machine to go to the year before Gokus arrival? Cell told piccolo that when he stole the time machine he used the date that Trunks programmed into it. So why would he go to that year?
When Piccolo is fighting Imperfect Cell, Piccolo asks “why did you choose three years ago?” (meaning Cell would have arrived in 764) to which Cell replies “I didnt, I used the date Trunks preprogrammed.” (Which doesn’t add up because the date that Trunks programmed would have to be 763 if cell didn’t alter the time machine destination).
@@rileyarcher2174 i should create a fan series where a new bad guy went into the time machine and changed the fucking dial for some goddamn reason to set everything into motion and explain away this plot hole lol
but why in the timeline 4.. on the toriyama pic say: ( and the cell game begins and trunks is absent) ? só if exist one perfect cell.. exist another dead of trunks
'What about the time line where cell never returns but trunks is killed, causing a split because trunks returned to one timeline and the ither time line cell gets killed but killled trunks
Theres a flaw in your arguement for the second travel while the new main would not create a paradox the old main would as trunks is now changing thay future by bringing goku /vageta there.
Because Cell created a timeline were Trunks doesn’t return to the original timeline to be killed. Trunks only got killed because he chose to return to his timeline after finding the blueprints to defeat the androids. Then original Cell kills him and travels to Timeline 1. But that means that Trunks goes back to the past like before, finds Cell’s time machine and decides not to go back. He then wins, but instead of returning to his Original timeline, he creates timeline 2 from the paradox
Everytime he went back to the past and back to the future (no pun intended) he created a new timeline, you cant just say sometimes he created a new timeline, when he presses that button in the time machine hes splitting time lol. When Bulma sent him to the past that was the last time she seen him couse when he goes back to the future its a different Bulma, same way its a different Bulma in the new future timeline. so that means it also happened to the Z fighters, they had to face cell without trunks. So there is actually 11 Timelines. 1.Original "timeline" 2."Original Trunks" First Time travel to the Past "timeline" 3."Original Trunks" First Time travel to the Future "timeline" 4."Original Trunks" Second Time travel to the Past "timeline" 5."Original Trunks" Second Time travel to the Future "timeline" 6."Cells" First Time travel to the Past (after he kills trunks, who was trying to inform the z figters of the androids defeat) "timeline" 7.Since trunks was killed this means there was another timeline where the New alive Trunks came from "timeline" 8."New Trunks" First Time travel to the Past "timeline" 9."New Trunks" First Time travel to the Future "timeline" 10."New Trunks" Second Time travel to the Past "timeline" 11."New Trunks" Second Time travel to the Future "timeline"
Your free to think what you want but these are the official timelines. There’s no need for a separate timeline if there is no paradox. It’s just like Avengers Endgame time travel rules.
@@GorshFlytgear A paradox is created every time he physically went back to the past, you cant go to the past and interact with that timeline without creating a divergence, i mean for simplicity sake u can say there are only a few timelines. like where did the new trunks come from? if the original got killed, and not to mention there were probably countless other paradoxes created that we didn't even see. there are so many potholes that just because it was said there are doesn't meant it was properly thought out, to be honest people making these videos and other youtubers watching probably put in more thought than the writers.
Why didn’t Cell absorb trunks before he left in the Time Machine? I mean he absorbs the regular humans in the beginning but wouldn’t absorbing trunks make him crazy powerful?
Okay there is no paradox cell made a new timeline where he fails early on and so the hot timeline still happens or one where cell catches everyone off guard and does whatver he wants with his perfect form. But we will just say he fails early on and makee the hot tineline now future trunks 2 goes back in time but cell will be there cuz he should be Then the rest plays out as normal so there is 4 timelines
Even if he waited one year he goes back two years too early and thus a new timeline is made one where they shouldn't know trunks or one where they do but its not him they know but rather the one that already died
I hate anything with time travel in it cause it is confusing and when time travel is in a series it should be explained perfectly in the series so it don’t lead to confusion etc
What happened to the timeline that trunks kill by cell, unseen timeline what if future trunks choose that timeline to go back after zamasu destroyed the future timeline, so he can be reunited with his mother bulma that lose his future trunks killed by cell
This theory is just plain wrong in one of the main points. Trunks didn't "find the blueprints and decided to stay in the past after he found the second time machine". Trunks FIRST finds the second time machine THEN learns that cell exists and THEN only after cell tells them about the basement, trunks goes there to destroy cell and finds them BY ACCIDENT. So no, he didn't find the blueprints and went back in time in one timeline and then in another decided to stay because he found out about the second time machine
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT how would he take him back in time in the capsule??? Is that stated somewhere for real? Because it wasn't big enough for small Cell lol much less trunks PLUS Goku are they gonna like curl up into a ball and stack on top of each other?!
I was so confused on how the timelines worked as a kid. Finally it makes sense now
No it doesn’t. You are better off not think about it yo begin with.

main problem with time travel in general is you can't travel back to your original timeline once you've altered the past (you can only travel to the altered past's future, unless you go back in time again to prevent yourself from altering the past in the first place).
In dragon ball z's case, it's not like this because the event of trunks going back in time ultimately created a new timeline, which doesn't affect his own.
so different from back to the future eh?
@@matteulberg3690 it is different. Trunks travels back between original timeline in future and altered timeline in past
There are different concepts, your description is the single timestream theory while dbz follows the parallel multistream theory
Interesting........
Not the most complex timeline but you did a fantastic job explaining everything. It’s epic how future trunks makes his return in DBS too
they kind of ruined his character development in super
The official timeline is actually just wrong, and a little poorly thought out. This is what _actually_ happened:
*Timeline 1* = _Original Timeline:_ Goku kills Frieza when he arrives back on Earth.

Yesss
There will eventually be an imperfect cell born in timeline 4, right? A couple of years after the incidents. A cell which goku and gohan will have no trouble in killing.
Oh yeah, that's true. That particular Cell (TL4) funnily enough is screwed over by (TL3) Trunks whom is killed by (TL3) Cell. Which is like multiversal karma.
Not if Trunks destroys Gero's lab in TL4. After discovering the blueprints to deactivate the Androids, Trunks would've probably blown up Gero's whole lab to prevent it from causing any further havoc.
Whatever cell born in timeline 4 can’t travel back in time. Presumably that’s a timeline with a cell saga without trunks involved.
Parallel Universes are also described to have natural differences that exist regardless of making any decisions.)
Alternate Timelines on the other hands exist by time traveling specifically.
Alternate Timeline: New Timelines Alternate to the original Timeline when you alter Time (Past , Present or Future)
Alternate Dimension: Realms or Reality Usually smaller than Whole Universes and separate from average space in their own bubbles of existence.
Really really really really well explained👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks a lot!
I'm just gonna steam role through my interpretation of everything
* Timeline 1: Goku defeats Frieza/Cold; Goku dies of heart virus; Androids 17 & 18 terrorize the planet; Trunks travels back in time to give Goku the cure.
* Timeline 5: Trunks destroys Android 17 & 18; Trunks defeats Cell.
What about the time line where trunks died and didn't go back too wouldn't that be timeline 5 where only bulma is alive or 4
@@jameshollister8294No, that's the original timeline (3) if I understood correctly. Timeline 2 is the new future timeline that "splits" from the original timeline when Trunks returns to his future after Cell games.
This was so easy to understand, thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you!
No 😭
In time line 3 Cell mentions that Trunks killed Frieza.. Shouldn't Cell mention that Goku killed Frieza since he is originally from time line 3?
Which episode are u talking about. Can u mention?
Yeah he should. I couldn’t think of any way to make sense of that line so I basically chalk it up to inconsistency haha.
I believe its when cell is talking to Piccolo after absorbing his arm but I cant quite remember exactly.
My only 2 questions now are:
1) in episode 143 (age 767) imperfect cell tells piccolo that his fetal self would be awaken in 24 years. So shouldn’t this mean that cell would kill trunks in the future in age 791 instead of age 788?
2) in that same episode, piccolo says he understands and says that cell killed trunks in the future and went back to the original coordinates that trunks had put. So why were the coordinates put for 1 year before freeza and Goku arrived?...since that’s when cellfirst traveled back in time
For 2. Question ... He was wrong actually its takes 3 year to refill time machine fuel not one I guess..
WOW great discription I'm playing around w/ RPG maker doing a chrono trigger game and I wanted to use the trunks time theory
Sounds cool!
This video helped me understand everything now. You deserve more subs and more views.

Perfect video man great job you earned a subscriber
Got it. So just to recap for my own sanity:
> Timeline 3 (T3) is the original timeline where Goku dies from the heart virus and all the Z fighters succumb to the androids.
> T3 Trunks goes back to the past and kills mecha Frieza, creating T4
> T3 Trunks discovers the Blueprints of the androids and goes back to his timeline
> He deactivated the T3 androids but unfortunately is killed by T3 Cell in 788.
> This Trunk that we knew as T3 Trunks becomes T2 Trunks (The Trunks that doesn’t get killed)
> However since Cell basically needed someone to kill and hijack their time machine to come to T1 in the first place, T3 continues to exist while branching off into T2
> T3 Cell (Our Cell) is defeated by T1 Gohan and T2 Trunks returns to his timeline.
> There he defeats the T2 androids with his power as well as T2 Cell.
> To summarize, T3 was the original timeline while T1 was created as a result of T3 Cells paradoxical interference (as was T2 so Trunks could contjnue to exist)
> T4 was the “original” main timeline and the only one that was created as a result of a changed event rather than a paradox.
Malfunction
Bad writing.
Thanks for the explanation 😅
This was amazing, My Dragon Ball fan.... Because i watch all time DB, DBZ, DBGT, Super all story episode 😁
Dawn I never seen that for real dawn Cell saga.
None of this shit makes sense thats why lol
2:46 There is a problem:
They find the time machine-used by Cell-before they find the Cyborg blueprints.
Actually trunks decided to stay in main time line 3 so the cell from future never arrives therefore when he goes back he was able to defeat cell
Timelines were so confusing this really helped thank you
Glad to help!
Man it is so sad but Cell killed Trunks in original timeline but still amazing that Trunks get revenge in killing Cell in another timeline
I watched the video and finally understood then I read the comments and now I’m confused again 😂😂😂
Great job explaining it best version of it
This basically confirms that the cell reborn arc will come from the unseen timeline where trunks didnt have any surprises and went back to his original time while cell was never destroyed or even discovered
What the heck is the "Cell Reborn Arc" ??!! Is this a new arc for Super? I'm actually not up to date with it but it sounds cool if it is
I think the original cell was born then he went back to the main timeline and was killed by Gohan
@@mangkyrpang4647 very late, but he is talking about the Unseen timeline which is timeline number 4 as shown in the video.
You wrong.....The timeline that Cell comes, Cell say that Frieza was killed by Trunks....but you saying that in his timeline frieza was killed by goku
Looked this up after re watching dbz. As a kid this never crossed my mind. Watching it today however the two time machines confused me beyond belief
I still don't get it.
Kinda...
Trunks from timeline 3 784 travels to timeline 4 (unseen) 764 to kill Frieza and King Cold, giving Goku the medicine and tell the Z fighters about the Androids
this cleared it all up for me. thank you
Perfect explanation, thank you
For some reason I thought there was a scene in the anime that explained it with lines like this when I was a kid. Guess I was trippin

Just create a extra timeline where trunks died but cell died to
Soo there is a time line where all z fighters are dead and only bulma is alive.
Wow thanks man !! It's was very good..
its so confusing because, who literally change the original timeline which is occuring in the android saga? is it cell or trunks?
Both
What timeline did cell come from and what timeline is the future trunks also? because the future trunks that got killed by cell and the future trunks now are different right?
@@jaybeecaranza9471 "the future trunks that got killed by cell " in the cell sga? or in the future ?
@@jaybeecaranza9471 cell came from the original time line(3) aka cell timeline. the future trunks came from timeline 2. in timeline 1 : cell is killed by gohan. timeline 2: future trunks kills android 17 and 18 by being strong, and kills cell. timeline 3 : trunks kills android 17 and 18 with the device and got killed by cell (the one that origined from, and go backs with the machine to our main timeline(1) to fight the fighters and got is perfect form and got killed by gohan ).
@@jonathanlibeskind7641 the one that got killed by the cell who attains his perfect form
I’m bit lost 2:59
Didn’t trunks stayed in the main timeline for present bulma to build an emergency button?
Yea but only because Trunks went back in time to discover it for her. Theres the timeline were he finds it and returns to old bulma in timeline 3. And a timeline were he stays and lets present Bulma make the switch, then creates a paradox where the androids
die, thus making timeline 4
BRO WTF THIS IS THE MOST CONFUSING THING TO TRY AND UNDERSTAND EVER
It’s really not lol take in consideration there’s also some very obvious plot holes but just keep watching it and it’ll make sense
Thanks for this.
Good work with video make sense for smooth brain .
0:24 Cells timeline is the original timeline.
So in one of these timelines, their is two trunks and two cells?
I understand now, cuz it always confused me hope cell was able to kill trunks in his timeline, that trunks didn't train and get stronger but destroyed the androids with a remote
When piccolo meets cell, how is trunks there?
Isn't he dead? Or trunks actually doesn't die in his timeline.
After trunks defeat cell in his timeline we all know what happened next? Zamasu appears and attacks the city.
Wait so trunks had the blue prints and defeated the androids right? He then leaves his time again but cell kills him then we see the time was set 4 years before frieza and stuff which means… TRUNKS WAS GONNA LET THEM DIE?
they should of shown two Trunks meeting each other , imagine having two Gokus
the thing thats so interesting is we don’t actually know how many times Trunks time traveled. We are only shown what plays out in the series, the Manga, and History of Trunks etc
I agree with everyone else here about the plotholes and they may very well be mistakes by Toriyama. Thats why the “Unseen Timeline” is important. Question is, how many “Unseen Timelines” are actually out there
When Cell explains his origins to Piccolo, he specifically states he simply “pushed a button, the time machine was already set” to go back.
It's really are loopholes no one notice ..
Theres something i dont understand or its confusing me ,If someone could answer , idk if in the anime its different but in the manga ,
it is assumed that trunks from the unseen timeline wanted to go back to tell everyone he found a way to deal with the androids, but cell said that trunks was the one who set the time machine to year 763 of the main timeline , but why would trunks go this far back in time to tell them about something the main timeline have no idea about and even who is trunks?
Finally i understand this timeline thing ❣
The more i watch this video more and more times I get a better explanation thanks mate❤️
Or is that a 4a 4b scenario?
then what timeline was that when beerus shoved mai and trunks into a old future was that timeline 2 again but far back in timeline 2
I must go check.
I remember that when we were kids we used to say that Trunks created *FIVE* timelines.
This video explains everything clearly, so I must go back check why we thought there was a 5th one.
Honestly, right now I can't remember.
did you check
@@yohhh6715
I just remember about this video and that I never actually replied.
Either We counted the timeline where Cell kills Trunks a different one and not part of the TL3 (because not canon anymore), or
We counted a new timeline, after Trunks and Crilin destroyed Cell in the secret lab, in TL1,
because that Cell never had the chance to kill Trunks and take his time machine.
Take a shot for everytime he says take a shot for when he says “back to the future”
drunk in 30 seconds lol!
In the Daizenshuu, they say there’s a timeline where a Cell Games takes place but with no Future Trunks present, how is that possible?
Perfect explanation!
Perfect comment! Thanks!
So whenever someone creates a paradox, an entire universe is created?
I personally think this is closest accurate description. 👍
So hypothetically, there would be a main timeline Cell that still exist, but didn’t absorb the Androids.
No, he was killed by Krillin. He probably existed in timeline 4, though.
Ever since trunks returned in super I've been confused as hell
I wish we learnt more about timeline 2 and 3 as we don't get see much of the events that happen there and we don't know what happens after like timeline 2 the unseen timeline we don't see what happens after the z fighters defeat the androids and we don't know hiw they deal with the otger events that happen like the cell of that timeline and how they deal with buu and how strong they become?
It doesn't make sense why trunks set the time machine to go to 4 years earlier than the time period he had already visited
You could argue Trunks made a mistake, or Trunks was in the middle of programming the time machine when Cell sneaked up on him
@@dannybans23See that's the thing: they never say how cell was really able to go back that far, which causes the confusion.
@dannybans23 that would make it make sense. And realistically could happen but in terms of writing a story it should be better explained
My question is,
From where did Trunks arrive in the main timeline-1 that we see in the anime?
@@rileyarcher2174 i should create a fan series where a new bad guy went into the time machine and changed the fucking dial for some goddamn reason to set everything into motion and explain away this plot hole lol
but why in the timeline 4.. on the toriyama pic say: ( and the cell game begins and trunks is absent) ? só if exist one perfect cell.. exist another dead of trunks
because are two perfect cells..one on the timeline 4 and one on the timeline 1
but why did cell (in the original timeline( came so late ? after the androids are killed by trunk.
"Confusion of the highest orda!" screamed the Ugandan after watching Cell saga
When i am right so in the main timeline there should be two cells or not? The one who is travelling and the who kid gohan destroys?
Yea but they destroyed that unborn Cell when they discovered the blueprints to the androids
I’m confused if he goes back to original time line and dies from cell , how does he go back to main timeline ?
Because Cell created a timeline were Trunks doesn’t return to the original timeline to be killed. Trunks only got killed because he chose to return to his timeline after finding the blueprints to defeat the androids. Then original Cell kills him and travels to Timeline 1. But that means that Trunks goes back to the past like before, finds Cell’s time machine and decides not to go back. He then wins, but instead of returning to his Original timeline, he creates timeline 2 from the paradox
Because that's a different Trunks.
Maybe I'm an imbecile, but I still don't get it lmao 😅
Everytime he went back to the past and back to the future (no pun intended) he created a new timeline, you cant just say sometimes he created a new timeline, when he presses that button in the time machine hes splitting time lol. When Bulma sent him to the past that was the last time she seen him couse when he goes back to the future its a different Bulma, same way its a different Bulma in the new future timeline. so that means it also happened to the Z fighters, they had to face cell without trunks. So there is actually 11 Timelines.
1.Original "timeline"
2."Original Trunks" First Time travel to the Past "timeline"
3."Original Trunks" First Time travel to the Future "timeline"
4."Original Trunks" Second Time travel to the Past "timeline"
5."Original Trunks" Second Time travel to the Future "timeline"
6."Cells" First Time travel to the Past (after he kills trunks, who was trying to inform the z figters of the androids defeat) "timeline"
7.Since trunks was killed this means there was another timeline where the New alive Trunks came from "timeline"
8."New Trunks" First Time travel to the Past "timeline"
9."New Trunks" First Time travel to the Future "timeline"
10."New Trunks" Second Time travel to the Past "timeline"
11."New Trunks" Second Time travel to the Future "timeline"
Uh, no.
I don't get why present zamasu (the ome who became Black) had to attack Trunks' future instead of his timeline
Because trunks is only sayin left in that time line
Why didnt the present time line changed when future trunks goes back and kills cell,
Why doesnt the futuere change when cell is killed by gohan???😭
Why didn’t Cell absorb trunks before he left in the Time Machine? I mean he absorbs the regular humans in the beginning but wouldn’t absorbing trunks make him crazy powerful?
Yeah that would make sense.
Okay there is no paradox cell made a new timeline where he fails early on and so the hot timeline still happens or one where cell catches everyone off guard and does whatver he wants with his perfect form.
But we will just say he fails early on and makee the hot tineline now future trunks 2 goes back in time but cell will be there cuz he should be
Then the rest plays out as normal so there is 4 timelines
