    Barış Manço is a symbol in modern Turkey. With his contemporary like Cem Karaca, Erkin Koray they created a beautiful blend with Anatolian tune and Rock genre. I recommend you Barış Manço's ''Dönence''. Also from his contemporary artists like Cem Karaca ''Islak Islak'' and Erkin Koray's ''Krallar''. To understand his moves from the clip, he is using body language to demonstrate the song's lyrics. he says '' Yaz Dostum'' which means ''write down my friend'' while using his hands to demonstrate taking notes. By the way here is the English translation;
    Write down friend
Would you call him a man if he doesn't like the fair?
    Write down friend
Would you call him gallant if he doesn't receive salute?
    Write down friend
Does it worth just for a 5-meter long fabric?
    Write down friend
Would you call it life if it is spent in vain?
Write again to the board, grab your books and notebooks
Mehmet the landowner with yellow wellingtons,
Some day sure he'll pay his debt
    Write down friend
If you see a needy feed him with kajmak and honey
    Write down friend
Dress up the poor with silk and shawl
    Write down friend
If you see an orphan wrap him tight with your arms
    Write down friend
Nobody departs from this world with their belongings
Write again to the board, grab your books and notebooks,
Mehmet the landowner with yellow wellingtons,
Some day sure he'll pay his debt
    Write down friend
Barış talks but does he learn a lesson from it
    Write down friend
Does it remain if you write on the water
    Write down friend
A world where right and wrong got mixed up
    Write down friend
You can't fill the empty, could you fill the full?
Write again to the board, grab your books and notebooks,
Mehmet the landowner with yellow wellingtons,
Some day sure he'll pay his debt

Barış Manço is a legend but, although he has pretty decent voice and vocal ability, he's more beloved with his composing skills and persona rather than spesifically his vocal talent. Also, this song isn't one to judge his true vocals. Please check out these songs to see a little more vocally demanding performances of him:
    - Barış Manço - Dağlar Dağlar: ua-cam.com/video/GfUR2edrltA/v-deo.html
    - Barış Manço - Al Beni: ua-cam.com/video/FQ_f0J1zC3w/v-deo.html
    - Barış Manço - Kol Düğmeleri: ua-cam.com/video/RrPI2ZbzmTs/v-deo.html
    - Barış Manço - Alla Beni Pulla Beni: ua-cam.com/video/ncP9wc_1GD4/v-deo.html (bonus female vocals to check out in this one)
To check out another Turkish legend with absolute top notch vocal talent, you should listen to *Zeki Müren* who is a classical Turkish art music singer. The genre is very different and you've probably never heard something like that. I believe it will be an amazing new experience for you and your non-Turkish subscribers. I strongly suggest the following record by him, which should be from 50s or 60s, but the song is even older:
    - Zeki Müren - Menekşelendi Sular: ua-cam.com/video/1YM9dhAiNpg/v-deo.html (especially, pay attention to the 2nd verse please)

Which make his songs special is the meaning and the impact of his lyrics beyond the music. He lectured the whole nation with his words so beautifully that millions cried in Turkey when he died.. Just one small translation from this song "Kimse göçmez bu dünyadan mal ile which means nobody will pass to other side with wealth.."

He is basically giving advice by saying, if you see poor people feed them, if you see orphans take care of them and then he adds on one can take their earthly possessions to the next world. And also says write down what I say because if it just words they dissipate into thin air but if it is writing then it lasts for good. And yes, all those hand movements is just him, he is describing with his hands to strengthen the lyrics. He points towards the camera when he addresses who ever listens by saying "Write it down friend." As for what he means I can only tell my understanding of it: "We all going to go one day, just don't get the impression that you can take what you piled up in this world after death and share what you have in this world with people who need it."

Hand gestures are unique to the singer. Barış Manço generally sings all his songs while emphasizing the lyrics of the song with his hands.
It would be very helpful to explain the meaning of hand gestures to you. It will be easier for you to grasp the meaning of the singer's hand gestures if you know this only in Turkish language.

I love her reaction! She knows he is giving a lecture even tho she doesn’t understand the lyrics. This song is teaching that the life is short and no one will bring anything to after life. So be kind to others, take care of the poor ones and elders, show compassion for the orphans ig that’s the translation. This is a type of storytelling he does a lot in his songs but he has tons of other type of songs too.
He tells stories in his songs. Some of them straight up old folk stories besides his life. He has written a song like a letter for his childhood friend which is a DONKEY :D but it’s a sad song, he talks about how much he misses his town and everything in the old farm. His music has feelings and you understand them well without the lyrics. I wish she reacts to this ones, they’re interestingly different:
Nick The Chopper (yep it’s in English, for defense it’s written by the forest animal’s point of view :D the outro has nothing to do with the story because why not)
    Lambaya Püf De
    Kara Sevda
Arkadaşım Eşek (the donkey song :D)

Dinlediğiniz adam coğrafyanın kurbanı. Barış Manço amerikan vatandaşı olsa bugün Metallica ve pink floyd gibi grupların arasında tanınan bir sanatçı olurdu? Şu an Türk gençleri çok saçma müzik dinliyor . Kendi ülkesinin böyle büyük sanatçıya değer vermemesi demek , dünyanın da ona değer vermemesi demektir. Barış Manço Türkiye’nin gururudur. 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷

A reaction to Doğa İçin Çal 8 is most certainly needed. It's part of an eco-awareness campaign. A huge number of musicians gather to cover old folk songs in a fusion of different contemporary and old styles. The best thing about it is that every verse is sung by a completely different vocalist with a different style. It's a perfect fit for this channel and I guess there will be a lot to talk about.

    STORY
    Years of the 1800s ...
Mehmet Aga is the village lord, in other words, he is the father of the village. In general, we remember the village aghas as worse than the old Turkish movies. In contrast, Mehmet Aga is a very naive person.
Mehmet Ağa was known by all the artisans in the city. On the other hand, those in need used to print the account to Mehmet Ağa.
Mehmet Ağa, who came to the city on certain days of the month, goes to all trades and pays his debts. It even gave land / space as a gift to newly married young people.
Mehmet Ağa has been engaged in charity, help, and passed away without money when he was a rich landlord ...
Barış Manço hears and explores this story in Cyprus, where he went in 1971. Then he reveals this unforgettable work.
In addition, Barış Manço finds the tomb of Mehmet Ağa in 1982 and built a tombstone.
    May their souls be challenged.
not: birde zeki müren dinle sanat güneşimiz...

Yaz dostum means 'write my friend/take note my friend' so he's basically asking whoever is listening if all the wrongs are worth spending your life on, 'bes metrelik bez icin', which means '5 meters of cloth' representing the cloth you are wrapped in when you are buried. The emphasis on the gum boots are because he says a line 'sari cizmeli mehmet aga oder hesabi' which directly translates to 'mehmet in the yellow boots will pay what is owed' which is a metaphor, like 'good luck with finding someone to pay for all the wrongs of your actions' Mehmet in the yellow boots is a common phrase in turkey, like a scapegoat, in Aussie culture we say 'tom dick or harry'. This is just a taste of the depth in his lyrics, it helps to delve deeper as when you directly translate a lot of it is lost. Thank you for doing this and highlighting some Turkish music

There is this culture called "veresiye" in Turkey. If people don't have the money to pay something back, the salesperson will write your debt on a notebook and will wait for you to pay it back when you can. During certain holidays, some people who have the opportunity go to markets (bakkal in Turkish) and pay everyone else's debts on behalf of them. The song references this culture, and advises being a good person, helping the poor, etc.

4:10 What you are talking about here is a rule in Turkish music. In Western music, for example, an orchestra is used to extract more than one note at the same time. But there is a rule in Turkish music that we call "maqam". Master singers sing the notes according to this style and can sing the same song in a hundred different ways. You can see this in examples of Turkish classical music. Also, in a small detail, the phenomenon we call "tune", which is completely unrelated to western music. It requires using the sound very differently. Finally, his movements are a unique theatrical show. :) they also have rings ..

I was so surprised when I saw Barış Manço on your channel =) I really wasn't expecting this.. but I wish you picked the song "Dönence" instead.. "Yaz Dostum" is very popular one yes, but a little bit dull for a reaction video and probably for your taste.. the hand gestures were some sort of signature moves special to him.. he would do those even when he was just talking.. please check out "dönence" even if you don't make a reaction video.

I am a huge fan of Barış, and just so you know, he has a lot of songs in English. You may want to check out Little Darlin' (We'll Be Kissing) and Trip (Fairground) for a good start.

Hi Beth, i really want to translate the song but on because of cultural referances its still imposible to explain what he tells :) Sory about that, yet on Anatolian Rock they generally tells a story on very abstract way. Yu will get thousands of viewers from Turkey and i strongly recommend you listen "Barış Manço - Dönence" it was recorded on 1981. U will hear one the best psychedelic rock song ever singed. Tey on vocal wise Turkey has many unbeliavable talents.
Cem Adrian - Summertime/Hit The Road Jack is becoming a reaction cliche but as a vocal coach u must hear Cem Adrian. He is a hidden gem..

there is a reason he wears that boats (yellow boats). Actually in music he talks about "Sarı çizmeli mehmet ağa- yellow boats mehmet sir" this man(Sir Mehmet) kinda legend in ottoman history. actualy this song is about this man. this man is kinda rich die as a poor man.Of course much more to say about just a little information..

You should also react to more eastern voices like İbrahimm Tatlıses, his sound is unique and loved by not only Turkey but the whole Middle East region (Israel, Iraq, Syria everywhere). You should search for much more authentic vocals from him by writing "İbrahim Tatlıses Muradı Böyle uzun hava" to see one of his best examples for eastern vibes.

Barış Manço is a folk poet. There is advice and a social narrative in the lyrics of their songs. When you examine the integrity of his songs, you will see that he reveals sociological situations. Also, he plays Anatolian rock music, not Turkish folk music.

Hello miss roars I'd like to suggest a reaction video...Days of the New, specifically Travis Meeks. The guy is a mess but he is amazing and has a standing invitation to play the Opry and lead the Boston Pops. The song i suggest is Weapon and the Wound but really anything by Travis is insanely good...just my opinion of course. I enjoy your channel and wish you the best.
