- Happy Birthday to Mike Watt who was born on this date in 1957.
"Anxious Mo-Fo" (with 'D.'s Car Jam' intro) by Minutemen off of their "Double Nickels on the Dime" album which came out in 1984 and featured Mike Watt on bass.
I'm playing the MBJ 'Hudson' bass that was built for me by Joe Kruse of MBJ Guitars.
Didn’t know you were a Minutemen guy! Love to see it! Double Nickels was one of my favourite through high school and college
I'm a fairly recent convert via Chet Zar.
I have to ask. What's your "day job"? I'm a full-time nurse with kids and can barely find time to upload as consistently as you do. Cheers.
I'm a Class B truck driver and am currently delivering home heating oil. I've always got a stash of 40+ videos in my folder, but I think not having children really has a lot to do with my extra, disposable time.
@@TJH3113 thank you for the reply!
Merry Christmas Troy!
Thanks and same to you!
Yes! I’m awaiting on a mike watt signature bass myself! Super excited!
Very cool! Let me know how you like it.
Never heard this before - super funky! Sounds great Troy!
Yeah, cool stuff. Thanks!
At first, I thought I imagined it, but my ear is hearing the E string chug as being slightly ahead of the pocket compared with the rest of the notes. It really sounds cool, gives that part of the song a rushed feel, and then settles back down. Thanks again for all of your effort on your channel. And, again, wishing you a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year to come.
That's definitely possible. It's technically considered to be "Punk" rock, so there is a certain looseness to some parts. Thanks so much for the kind words and I wish you the same. Take care!
Great work as usual, TJH! Great to hear your interpretations of Minutemen tunes. I'll be grabbing a Reverend Wattplower bass as soon as I am financially able and plan on doing all of Double Nickels in one take. Happy Birthday, Watt!
Thank you very much! I hope you get hold of one soon. It sounds like an ambitious plan, but I’m sure you can do it! Take care!
Very cool.
Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful happy holiday season also a fantastic happy new year ❤😊 troy
Thank you... You too!
I've heard of Mike Watt, but haven't heard this song. Very cool, great job, Troy!
This album had 44 songs on it!😳 He’s got a ton of cool basslines. Thanks, Jim.
I'm very glad that you've become a Minutemen fan. They're one of my faves. Check out the songs "Cut" and "Fascist."
I've got a couple more off to the side. I'll check them out... thanks for the suggestions.
Yesssss, keep these Minutemen covers coming!!!! I just read up on the history behind the album cover....great story. The guy on the cover is driving 55mph on interstate 10 (double nickels on the dime). It was a "haha" to sammy hagars i cant drive 55
I've got a couple off to the side... "Piss Bottle Man" is one... haha. Thanks for sharing the backstory. I figured it would be something clever. Take care!
Troy, great job as always. You should either do a video or just learn for your own amusement 'One Reporter's Opinion' from the same album. It's a weird, cool groove with D-G-B-C where it's: Root, flat 5,octave, then back and forth between the 4 and the flat 5. You'll love it. I met those guys on their last tour, just a little over a month before D. Boon became yet another member of the 27 club. They were/are a great bunch of guys. I talked to Mike at length about bass lines and how weird it was for Paul Simonon, on the first Clash album, to be playing bass lines using decending major scales. George Hurley is a criminally underrated drummer.
Thanks so much. I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion. Mike Watt seems like a really cool guy.
Minutemen!
🤘
Yes! Choice selection Troy.
Thanks for this...
I’m glad you liked it!
My 1st encounter. Wattage in the cottage & spot on. And Tor Johnson & friends…

I've seen the Mike Watt Plower bass but had actually never heard this tune before, so thanks Troy! Merry Christmas to you and Lynn.
Thanks and same to you!
A very difficult bass line! You nailed it 🤘!!
