Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The next electric test is the Fluence ZE and then later this year the Zoe is out so as soon as it's available I'll get it tested. Thanks Sweden!
I liked the review I was going to ask you what the mirrors were like but unfortunately you didn't use them very much. but I'm so glad you are in Ireland. Keep up the good work.
Hello Smokerspack, a really great vid and test. Smart and intelligent and interesting too. Thx a lot... And yes, i would really be interested in watching your test of the Renault ZOE too.. With kind regards from Lower Saxony.. Uwe
@przemo4416 You have to get a special charging point put into your house which takes 6-8 hours to charge, the street chargers are the same. Fast charge can't be done very often as is shortens the life of the battery. I have a home charger and it quite tidy
@altern8ive The car your talking about is a generator type car, Opel/GM have the Ampera with is another generator type. Peugeot have the Hybrid 4 which is a Diesel hybrid. Unless there is huge investment in Hydrogen I doubt we'll be seeing it anytime soon. It's very hard to extract and transport
@ThePetrolhead94 Thanks very much. There would have to be a huge shift in attitude in Ireland before the masses will take up the electric car. Reliability shouldn't be an issue as there's really only one moving part in the engine. Charging time and range will always be an issue.
im not sure if electric only will take off but i certainly think a diesel electric has huge potential, as indicated by that Fiskar shown on top gear, and as the countless diesel/electric loco's prove, until hydrogen is more 'mainstream', it could be a viable system in a car too
.. and a 20 minute video Bob? that was a welcome surprise, hope it continues. And im sure you could've found better things to do with your time than consult Auto Express, unless it was a blatant plug for your new employer? :D
@AttaboyIII True but, short journey people will find that a diesel costs more to run than a petrol engine car and someone who commutes to work through traffic will find that the electric car will cost next to nothing for fuel. A full charge is between 3 and 5 euro or about 3 pounds. There is a market for the EV car but the change for most people will be like giving up the Horse when the car first came along!
I used to have a petrol-engined Kangoo. It took me from my home (West Midlands) to the north of Scotland and to West Wales. In terms of carrying capacity there is not a car that can hold a candle to it. Unhappily, at the time of writing (June 2015) this vehicle is not available to me, which is a bit of a bummer!
@ruairi50 The point of the test was to see how far I could get it on a full charge, in actual fact I turned on the heater after the recharge point. It will suit some people but others won't go near it.
@Ecoenergy I think your mouth would go dry if you had a long test. There is a diesel heater option for the kangoo which will run for weeks on a tiny tank, Well done.
The kangoo has a smaller 44kw capacity motor compared to the fluence, so the fluence would be more urgent. Did you get the ocassional charging lead for 13A sockets? or do you only have he standard lead for the home wall box and public charging?
is there a way to charge the battery from a normal electrical outlet? for example over night at home, or do you have to constantly go to those fancy fast chargers..?
@altern8ive No, it was just a magazine that was in the showroom. I don't endorse Auto Express, nor am I paid by them but I do like a leaf through sometimes. Long test = long video, if I get enough requests for longer videos I'll see if it's viable Thanks for watching!
I suppose the questions is cost, since no other electric car is cheap... how much is it? And how much is the Fluence? And is it good enough to stop us from buying a diesel with a bigger range?
@Smokerspack and unfortunately with new tech comes high prices. I couldn't justify, for my needs, spending £26-35k on what Peugeot and GM are offering, and as regards hydrogen, i've not seen much else worthy of note since the Clarity but, as you point out, extraction is the major hurdle.
i dnt belive electric cars are goin to catch on there too expensive and i think the uncertainty about reliability etc will put many ppl off and the time it takes to charge. great review though u can make a review even of the most borin car quite intresting ha
@Smokerspack no worries, i was only joking about AE :) If it is viable and requests for longer videos are what you need then please consider my interest. mainstream TV is so dire most of my viewing time is spent trawling online. I'll keep watching and i've subscribed to your FB page too - not that i'm some crazy stalker or anything!! it's just an easier method for me to use for updates away from home :)
I really enjoyed that. Plain, no holds barred, review. No showing off, noncing around or shite. Brilliant
Thanks Sinead!
Bob, Im from portugal and i must say that your review of de dacia duster was the one that made me buy dacia Sandero. Nice reviews! thanks.

Brilliant video.
The best Z.E. tests on youtube, easily!
Looking forward to maybe a Zoe run too? (When it´s available)
Thanks, and greetings from Sweden! :)

Yes, Renault Europe do indeed make a ramp access model. I'm sure something similar can be done in the US.
The motor's speed controller would be a good heat source :)
Bob, Michael D Higgins was beside you in his Mercedes S Class and the holes on the wings of the car, they hold flags

a better technology for a better world

Nice vid :)
You wont freeze in ZOE, it has a efficient heater :)
im not sure if electric only will take off but i certainly think a diesel electric has huge potential, as indicated by that Fiskar shown on top gear, and as the countless diesel/electric loco's prove, until hydrogen is more 'mainstream', it could be a viable system in a car too
You should of used the radio and heater to see what effect it has on range.

@00kirbyd You have a keen eye, I didn't notice that in editing

can the car be charged at home from a normal wall socket?
yes, you can charge in a normal 220V socket
