This is an awesome interview and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Baba Sharafa Bello was free - flowing , truthful and he made the interview captivating. I was arrested , rooted , glued to the screen and I never missed a word of his. I must congratulate Mr Dele he knew how to probe and he got the best out of Baba Bello. May God continue to keep Baba and may his years be long . I learnt a lot especially as it concerns taking care of our children and wife. It gladdens my heart that his wife is still with him and this is why he his enjoying his children today. Some musicians and some of their fans can't say this for themselves today I learnt from this interview and I'm glad I tuned in and this is my first time tuning to Agbaletu and it won't stop. Kudos sirs.👍

Baba Sharafadeen Bello is a wonderful man. A man with free mind, focus , passion and visionary. The most important takeaway is that he trained his children and he is reaping the benefits now.
Majority of the band members of high profile musicians lacked focus and they didn’t prepare for the future.

I've been watching all of sunny Ade former band members on agbaletu, and they mostly have DIFFERENT views and memories of the same time, ie, sharafa is saying the car gift came AFTER ekilo fun omode, BUT Rasaki aladokun said cars was given in 1976/7 which was AFTER omode...

That is true, he's been economical with the truth. For those saying what would u gain from controversial statements , I guess we are not being real and truthful with this kind of attitude that has never taken us anywhere . I also want to believe that at his age (baba sharafa bello) should bare it all without mincing words, this will further help set the record straight . Failure to to this ,he still want to remain in the good books of sunny Ade and hopefully waiting a reward . If some band members says otherwise about their boss,sharafa bello was also part of the band and he should call a spade a spade . Excellent interview which was largely a repeat of what Mr Sharrafat Bello gave in the past through other channels. It's good to see him living well; unlike many of the former band partners of KSA who are living in penury. Sharrafat is wrong on one point though which is that he has no claim to royalty from records he co-created with KSA. He is very wrong on that. He 100% has both the rights and a valid claim to royalties even without a written agreement. All he needs is to join up with former band partners and launch a civil "class action" law suit against KSA using the expertise of a good commercial lawyer. I am 100% certain that they'll win substantial damages from KSA and his organisation; espcially with the court award against Abioro's TYC records with KSA did as Aje mo nu. They also should not allow cost of legal fees to deter them. They can do crowd funding appeal to their fans to help pull funds together for that. I for one would readily contribute significantly to such a fund, as I hate creative legends being cheated the way they all have. 419 started in NGR a long time ago and Messers Sharrafat, Olojede, Owomoyela, Aladoku, Fatoke, Babalola, and many others were commercial victims of this. KSA ought to be ashamed of himself for the way he scammed these people.
It's not about 419, but what was in vogue then. But all can be revisited.
What do you mean by damage? Tell me any popular artist of that time that had any royalty contract with his band members? Were the artists even aware of royalties to their members? Band members were hired into a band, owned by an artist. It is never a joint business. It is a one man business they operated and recruit members into it. They paid them by shows they attend. If you call KSA a 419, then the list will be so long. Obey, Barister, Fela, Kollinton, Orlando, Oliver d Coqoe, Osadebe, Sina Peters, K1, Emperors Peters, General Adekunle, Sunny Okosun, Victor Owaifo, Osayomore Joseph, Micho Ade, Dayo Kujoore, Dele Abiodun, All the popular artists of that time will be joined in the litigation. If you have a personal hate for KSA, that's ur business. Most of the band members make enough to live good lives, but waste money on women and drinks. This man work with him for about 12 years, he was able to build an hotel from it. He said that himself. Pull the class action together, im interested in the drama, but add all the liable artists. If you sue only KSA, then we his fans will do you dirty as well.
You are entitled to your opinion only in your mind. But when you decide to spill your opinion to the public especially on this social thread; then you have to ground them in logic and facts and explain your reasoning to others. All the loads you just spilled out are baseless and at best, pure OLD WIVES TALES. Were you privy to the contracts these band boys signed with KSA? Be reminded however, class action or no class action; these disgruntled band boys lack evidence to proof that KSA ripped them off. It was typical in these parts to have leader and band boys falling out over money issues. All the great band leaders from this clime had issues, is it FELA, OBEY, VICTOR UWAIFO,BARRISTER, OLIVER DE COUQUE. Your sudden departure from praising KSA for leading a great band and for being a talented musician ON A UA-cam VIDEO ON "GBEYO GBEYO" to this your sudden baseless criticism of ripping off his band boys beats my imagination. To many and my good self; KSA has been fair to his band boys, and SHARAFA BELLO's testimony in this video laid credence to this obvious fact. If SHARAFA says he hasn't been ripped off by KSA. And, as a grown man, he knows what he is saying and doesn't need an advocate to spill something that is already within the public space. It is true people may fall on hard times, but many have have invested their share from the many global tours with this enigma.

I agree his memory is fading.Bob Aladeniyi was in the band way back in 1971 and soloing on the Sheindemi album.Ohiri joined in 1974 playing first on the Ekilo fomode album

That is the point exactly. Most band members working for the big artists like KSA, Obey etc, make alot of money from their shows. They generally have waste culture on women and drinks. They wont save, but come bak after 40 years to talk about royalties that have no agreement. He worked with KSA for 12 or so, and built an hotel, no matter how small. He bought a car even bf KSA gave them cars. It means what they were making was not that bad.
During KSA brief interview, he said they use to divide money in every show as head to head. But most of his boys are not prudent. But anyone that leave the band some of them still come for assistance and he always render what he's capable of doing. My believe is that nobody can satisfy everyone.

Amos was the vocalist in both the different bands led by Ayinde Bakare and Kayode Fashola. That's why the songs and singing voice sound similar.

My question is, why is it that, 60 percent of your interview, when it comes to music, especially juju, is all about King Sunny Ade ? bringing his ex band members to start saying all manner of things, why ? I know you belong to Chief Ebenezer Obey's style of juju music. King Sunny Ade will never come down, no matter what you people do, in Jesus mighty name
As you can see royalty issues are just part of the interview. I don’t think you should blame Agbaletu the interviewer. It’s also a lesson and guide for the budding talents who are also into music nowadays to formalise legally all agreements with their bosses.

But people like him do need to be told that the absence of a formalised written legal agreement does not necessarily mean that there is no enforceable legal contract in place. There are implied and oral contracts which are 100% enforceable in law; even in the absence of a written contract. As I posted above as a legal head, Mr Sharafa and his ex partners have a 100% bonafide case they can pursue through the legal process and with a good chance of winning, if they choose to do so.
@@ultimateoneThe issue of royalty in music is NOT always as straightforward as many people think it is. It is complicated and intricate. Even in advanced climes they do also experience issues in terms of royalty. I refer you to the case of Laface Records( Babyface) and Toni Braxton.
Contrary to what many people think over 70% of albums sales royalty goes to the Record Label, the other 30-40% is shared between the artist, record distributor etc.
As a matter of fact, artists who write their own songs may earn more. A band member would get some royalty if they wrote some or part of the songs otherwise they don’t really get any royalty aside from the performance payment which in the case of KSA and other Nigerian artistes would be what they agree to be shared from the stage proceeds. Honestly, it’s very complicated. More so, in the case of KSA’s situation I think to be fair on him he was scammed big time by Abioro so even if he wanted to give his band members some royalty on moral grounds it would have been difficult for him because he himself never got what was due to him from his record label.
That is fact. Btw 1966-1975 that KSA was with Abioro, he basically worked for nothing for that man. If not that he was a very talented artist himself that he could get shows, he would gone wreck. That affected him financially, and that was why he could not compete with Obey financially at the start of his career. Obey was getting so huge from Deca, and KSA getting close to nothing from Abioro for that period.
