@@brucecrawford593 yes afflecks body & athletics convinced us while he beat up Superman in Batman vs Superman. And I like Christian Bale's attitude as Bruce Wayne & Batman & but it's hard to fight against Joker compared to Superman.
Many many years ago before the Dark Knight Rises was released, someone made a brilliant fan made trailer for a 3rd Nolan film with the Riddler as the antagonist and spliced in dialogue/scenes from Seven and Zodiac. I would like to thank that person for their foresight and Matt Reeves and company for making the same connection. I cant' wait to see it.
I loved when the Riddler disciple says “I am vengeance.” It was the moment when Batman realized how limited and wasteful that was. Batman needed to be more. When the bad guys usurped that position, Bruce realized he was free to move off that whole thing and be who the people needed. Vengeance will get you nowhere.
Well not for Batman but your thought is only your opinion, vengeance is a motivation like everything else and if it pushes someone to achieve what they want then it indeed got them somewhere. Take DreamWorks, the creator used to work for Disney and got screwed over and quit. His vengeance to spite them is what motivated him to create DreamWorks and you cannot say it got him nowhere because it did and it gave us Shrek and Po the panda. 😀
Matt Reeves is an incredible visual storyteller. He's behind Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of Apes. I wish I knew more about visual storytelling to appreciate what makes his movies so unique.

One of my favorite scenes in this movie was Batman's escape from the Police station. When he gets to the rooftop and is about to leap that momentary look of fear in his eyes right before he gathers his balls & leaps was a genius decision. It showed how alot of what was going on was new to this Batman and how at the end of the day he's just a man. The word that kept coming to my mind the entire time watching this movie was MASTERPIECE. Can't wait to see it again.

@@skyward5934 well he’s playing a purposely one note Batman so that makes sense. His presence is felt massively in little movements and his eyes though which is what Batman should be about.
No Batman has been able to portray as much emotion while wearing the mask as Pattinson. I was thoroughly impressed. The scene where he looks at the Mayor's son while leaving his house.. you could see the welling of tears in his eyes. So crazy.

What you said about how Wayne Manor looks is how I feel about the setting over all from what I've seen in the trailers. If I have any issues with Nolan's trilogy it's that after Batman Begins, Gotham just feels like generic Chicago. A plain city. This movie still has the same grounded aesthetic as Nolan's trilogy but it does it while somehow also maintaining that Gothic atmosphere.
My only true gripe about TDK was that Wayne Manor was gone (being rebuilt as Alfred says). We got a pseudo Batcave under the apartment Bruce lived in but it wasn't the same. The Batcave in Begins was great.
I know what you mean about it looking too much like Chicago but I didn’t like the way that it looked in ‘Begins’ (which was partially filmed in Chicago, mostly the bridge scenes leading to the Narrows and the chase scene when Racheal has been poisoned) because it was largely CGI. ‘The Dark Knight’ was almost entirely Chicago (Wayne Manor obviously isn’t there…) and ‘Rises’ was entirely in New York City and Pittsburgh (the stadium and some of the bridge sequences were shot in the area where Three Rivers used to be; ‘Land of the Dead’ highlighted just how much of a peninsula this part of Pittsburgh is.) So, it was not Chicago *enough* in some ways that I think lended itself to the generic aspects too.
I love that this Batman finally puts Goth in Gotham. Where Nolan's Gotham literally looks like New York Reeves' Gotham is gritty, wet, dark and gothic. It was amazing to see the cityscape
New York? Nolan’s Gotham had some grime and goth early on in ‘Begins, before eventually resembling Chicago and Pittsburgh, where they were filmed, and rightly so as he made the decision to pursue a more grounded universe for his vigilante crime epic. Reeve’s embraced the comic book Gotham. I’d say both accomplished what they set out to do, though Nolan’s films certainly felt more coherent overall. We’ll see what Reeve’s does in the sequel/
This movie was ridiculous. "Detective" batman gets handed some cards and solves some glorified fortune cookie riddles and folks are like.. "we finally get to see batman being a proper detective"! 😂 I saw reviews and was expecting some mindhunter level stuff but this was the most childish batman since batman and Robin and the literal dark cinematography does not equate to a dark film and it did nothing to hide its hyper campness for me. Nonsense film
@@ManSeekingMeaning Nolans batman was cheesy bang average only reason it got good reviews is because ledger died and that's a fact reeves batman was ten times better
To all of us who had a strong feeling this would be one of, if not the best Batman film ever produced - This is great to hear and I cannot wait to watch the early premier of it tomorrow!
I love how when Batman walks out of the shadows, he’s just completely focused on his target. No emotion, no running. He’s just completely concentrated rage directed towards crime and his actions perfectly reflect that.
This is exactly why that deleted scene with the joker hits so hard. The joker knows that the batman has all the characteristics of a serial killer and he knows it’ll just take one bad day for him to go overboard and kill his victim and he knows there’s no going back from that once that happens.
Bro that car chase scene was definitely the best experience i've had especially in IMAX, overall the movie felt like an actual film rather than the superhero roller coaster ride like what Marvel does, it felt raw, intense and somehow moving, its almost a 10/10 film for me to be honest, not to mention the cinematography definitely Oscar worthy and the makeup for the Penguin.

The most mature Batman movie ever. It was an artwork and puts the whole IP to a new perspective. There was real character development too, which was missing from almost every other movie adaptation.
My only issue with the movie is that it can feel like 2 parts. The riddler, and Carmine Falcone. I wish they could’ve integrated the 2 stories together a little better but other than that I absolutely loved the movie
Yes thats True, my only wish for the movie is that they would have shown The riddler more. He was a good villain and should have been on The screen more i feel.

Robert Pattinson was great in The Lighthouse. Holding your own with Willem Dafoe says quite a bit about a person's abilities. So I had little doubt when he was announced as Batman that he could be right for it.
I’m just glad Batman actually SAVED people. A lot of times in superhero movies, you don’t often get shots of them helping people from dangerous situations. When they do it’s usually a means to an end, like the villain got a hostage or is trying to slow the hero down. So glad this movie got to remind us that Batman is a HERO who goes out of his way to help people, even when the villain is already defeated. I love the MCU, but wouldn’t it have been cool to see shots of the Avengers saving people after the battle of New York in Avengers 1? That shawarma scene was funny, but I’d rather see Thor lift some people out of rubble or Iron Man do a search-and-rescue for survivors.
I thought the same thing! It was refreshing to see him extend the hand and realize the good he can do rather than just fight and run off to the shadows. It left you wanting more at the end even though the film was 3 hours

Although Batfleck had his problems I was always a fan…especially of the fight scenes because it felt like it came straight out of an Arkham game. However this Batman’s fighting style was my favorite by far because it felt real with every blow, he took damage, and he used his gadgets seamlessly in each action scene. I train in a few different fighting disciplines and really got to geek out during this movie haha
I agree , the batcleck movies he moved very fast and jumped from attacker to attacker just like you do in games. this one was more realistic he took the hits and what not. I liked it
Disagree on how he used his gadgets seamlessly. However, I only enjoyed the movie more because of it. We saw how he reached the ledge and got scared, then he uses the wing suit and crashes. Throughout the series, he is far from perfect both skills wise and mentality wise, and that is what I loved most about the film.

So glad it has Chris' seal of approval. A lot of the filming locations were in the UK, especially Liverpool and Glasgow which have beautiful gothic architecture, so I'm also hoping it can capture that gritty art-deco style that Gotham has in Batman The Animated series or even the Gotham TV series. @@surgeongeneral7371 It's primarily a crime/mystery noir film. Matt Reeves' take on Batman's character is about him learning to have more hope, be more empathetic and compassionate, learn more self-control of his anger, and learn to also channel his trauma into more positive things. It's the start of the transition from vigilante to hero. Don't expect Batman in the film to be a super smart detective or fighter though. He isn't dumb by any means, but he is show as still clearly inexperienced and naive in many ways. I don't say that as a criticism. The film really captures a Gotham with personality, out of this world. And it's primarily a slow-burn crime/mystery noir than an action movie. Loved that. You also have to watch it on a good theater. So many theaters have shitty sound that you can barely understand the dialogue, and also shitty resolution, color contrast and clarity in the image. A film like The Batman specially demands a good theater, because otherwise the dark cinematography gets ruined. I speak from experience. I think atmosphere, cinematography and characterization are easily the film's biggest virtues.

@@supersteele6019 People can have different opinions. For me, I loved the first two Nolan films and thought the third wasn't anywhere near as good. This incantation is probably my favorite live action since Begins or even the Keaton films.
Meh.... Jeffrey Wright was solid as always, but the main purpose of the Jim Gordon character in this film is simply to be a blank canvas for Batman to release expositional bukakke upon. Really under utilized what the character is supposed to be.
Something extremely creative detail that I noticed in the film, was Batman’s Batcave. You can really tell that Batman is still new to being a superhero because the Batcave still looks like a part of the mansion’s attic or basement, there isn’t a lot of equipment that shows he is fully experienced. There is only the necessary things Bruce needs.
Just watched it. What an awesome introduction to an even more grounded, young and restless Bruce Wayne. With only two years for young Batman the film is dark, it’s gritty and it’s all about the detective work. This is why we all love Batman, because he has so many layers up on layers to explore. Matt Reeves just revolutionized the Riddler. Paul Dano was amazing, pretty much every cast is amazing. What I really like is that the film shows us how young Batman is scared to even fly off high rise buildings stil, but also throws out his body with no hesitation to enemy bullets, sometimes not being able to control his anger during a fight. He gets shot in the chest, punched in the head and doesn’t give in. But above all it haunts him to see anyone get hurt because he’s still affected by the death of his parents. The cinematography is amazing, and boy the city of Gotham is just on another level. You’ll get scared to even pass by the city let alone live there. Shows the true nature of corruption and political deceives. Reeves created a unique Batman sets just as Nolan’s was different than Tim Burton, as well as for Zack Snyders Batman. Each directors build their own unique elements and universe for the Batman. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that character Batman is so versatile and any director can interpret it based on the excellent comic books written. DC needs to focus on these kind of movies because honestly they’re just perfect. I’m hoping we will get another amazing trilogy if it continues like this. My respects to all the previous and current directors for giving us different types of Batman. I really like all the Batman iterations since 2005. (Baleman, Batfleck. & Battison).
I think it's too grounded they may have buried the film... too depressing. It's not bad. but not amazing. The riddler is basically the dark knights joker with his murders. Although I liked some aspects of him. I share my complete thoughts in a review. Hope I don't get attacked but want to hear what people think.
It's not you. The way I figure. We are all tired af from covid. These last 2 years have been awful. This to me is reflected in the film. Where crime and corruption literally seep into every single thing. So when a serial killer takes advantage of that exhaustion it's no wonder the Batman becomes the one to seek out. The film is depressing and dark. It shows us that not everyone can be saved. Not everything works out. People get hurt and killed. It's a heavy, heavy movie that does not pull punches or skip beats. In this movie EVERYONE has consequences to deal with as a result of the world they live and participate in.
I saw it last night, and I loved it. Definitely one of my favorite Batman movies. I can see people saying it is their favorite. I love that they leaned into the detective part of Batman. My main gripe was that scenes either had Batman or no-mask Batman. Bruce didn't feel any different, but I get it because of what is happening in the movie he can't exactly shake it off when he's out of costume. It isn't a perfect movie, but I really enjoyed it and want to watch it again in theaters.
I hope in a second Batman movie, we get not a lot older Bruce Wayne, just maybe a couple years. I hope we can see him as a more mature businessman Bruce Wayne, and just as dark in private and as bats
That´s the point. This was based partially from Year One/The Long Halloween issues. In those, Batman is struggling because he believed cleaning up Gotham would be a lot easier by just fighting thugs. Is only after those comics that Bruce Wayne becomes a more important persona, since he realizes the job is gonna take years, and he can´t do it alone (remember this is preRobin Batman!)
The reason why I loved this film was because the story building, world building, felt like a priority; it felt organic, whereas the previous films felt more heavily focused on the actors portraying these characters, this feels as though the characters came first? The actors second. Absolutely outstanding film, and I cannot wait for the sequel
I’ve said it for years. RP is an amazing actor. People can say what they want about the Twilight films, but he nailed the role in that as well. He really puts the time into the prep for each role he plays. I can’t wait to go see The Batman this weekend. It’s definitely one of my most anticipated movies of 2022. Behind Top Gun: Maverick
Problem with twilight was the writing, there’s only so much even the best actors can do at the end of the day. Source material was terribly written so the films by extension didn’t really have much to go off etc.
I knew from the moment Matt Reeves was attached and spoke about his detective neo-noir vision for the movie, that this was gonna be the comicbooky, mystery-oriented Batman movie I've been waiting to be made for so long and judging by these fucking stellar reviews, he didn't dissapoint and managed to deliver yet another deliberately crafted masterpiece.
Did you also get lost in the movie? I swear at some points I felt like I was watching not actors portraying characters but the ACTUAL comic book brought to life. Rob and the rest of the cast disappeared completely into their roles.
@@matthewotoole4347 Yeah I thought I would have to adjust to see a new cast play the characters but they did so good and it felt so natural and similar to the comic materials as if they have been playing these characters before.
So happy to hear it’s what we all hoped for! Seeing the Fan First event of it on the 2nd. Can’t wait to see it in an auditorium full of hyped up Batman Fans. 🤟🏻
I enjoyed this movie a lot. Batman has always been one of the most realistic superheros, but this took it to a level where you felt like this version of Batman could actually exist. The technology used was high tech but at the same time nothing was too far fetched. I especially like the part where he jumps off the building with his wing suit, and ends up crashing and hurting himself. It showed that he was still new to being Batman and not perfect at everything. You see Batman on the crime scenes analyzing everything much faster than other detectives, and noticing things that the others don't. He is able to solve the first riddle within minutes. This movie basically shows that Batman is a world class detective.
I have had 100% confidence in the Batman movie since the start. And to hear your review is so relieving and makes me ecstatic and almost bring tears of joy to me, Ben affleck wasn’t a bad Batman. To me though, we haven’t seen Batman on screen since the dark knight rises. It’s great to have the detective back
I will let you see it for yourself but myself and many others thought batman was the weakest part of the batman movie. this can be interpreted in many ways as he being overshadowed by other performances but for me he is not a good batman and the film isnt really hurt by it. There is so much atmosphere and world building you just want to be there and batman gets in the way more then helps it.
I’m gonna go watch *The Batman* 🦇 this weekend with my fiancé and we’ve being excited about this movie for almost 2 years. Thank you for the review and I’m glad you liked it
The more I think about it, the more I can't unsee and unhear Pattinson's Batman. He's so perfectly cast here, from the look to the voice... he's my favourite right now. He's fuckin HAUNTED in this film. And how EXPRESSIVE is he behind the cowl???? My God.
Glad to know that there is great hope for this movie. I saw the trailer with my mom and dad and my mom said "Who's playing the Penguin?" and I told her how it's Colin Farrell and she was wide eyed and said "That's Colin Farrell?!" priceless reaction. Looking forward to seeing this film in a couple of days and thanks for a great review, Mr. Stuckmann
Honestly Pattinson was never a bad actor. I was incredibly impressed at his portrayal of Edward Cullens in twilight especially considering what he had to work with. In the novel Edward was an incredibly incredibly one dimensional character that really didn’t need any acting skill to pull off whatsoever. But the first time he appeared on screen and flickered his eyes and how he managed those emotional changes, I mean for a starting off young actor and probably didn’t really think about needing to work too hard for a small gimmick cult movie, was pretty impressive. But of course it’s just awesome that he also went to improve himself and hone his skill more and more. Unlike many actors (e.g., Jennifer Lawrence) who just decided to stay in their comfort zone.
Someone found a way to use Pattinson’s low range to great effect. Intriguing movie, really well made. Anything with Andy Serkis in it is worth watching.
I haven't been a big batman for a long time because they make him more of an ass kicking guy rather than the world greatest detective, which is the aspect that distinguishes him from every other dude... I'm glad to know that's the direction this movie seems to be going for...

Watched the movie yesterday and it blew me away. So damn good and I couldn't believe how well rob played batman, he even did a good job as Bruce I thought.
This is now my favourite Batman movie. It captured his intensity, his motives, his methods, his violence, but also BRUCE. BRUCE was a person, not the mask Batman wears. More people need to write him this way, not just in movies, but also in comics. And, for really the first time, a movie showed Bruce/Batman being a DETECTIVE. GOD DAMN! It's about time!

After watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes I’ve wanted to see Matt Reeves do a Batman or Star Wars movies.

I’d argue that this movie might feel more comic booky but that’s just my opinion
My only true gripe about TDK was that Wayne Manor was gone (being rebuilt as Alfred says). We got a pseudo Batcave under the apartment Bruce lived in but it wasn't the same. The Batcave in Begins was great.
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 but it is in tdkr.
It's the same with Joker for me. I just always felt it was New York/Jersey and never really got the Gotham vibe.
I know what you mean about it looking too much like Chicago but I didn’t like the way that it looked in ‘Begins’ (which was partially filmed in Chicago, mostly the bridge scenes leading to the Narrows and the chase scene when Racheal has been poisoned) because it was largely CGI.
‘The Dark Knight’ was almost entirely Chicago (Wayne Manor obviously isn’t there…) and ‘Rises’ was entirely in New York City and Pittsburgh (the stadium and some of the bridge sequences were shot in the area where Three Rivers used to be; ‘Land of the Dead’ highlighted just how much of a peninsula this part of Pittsburgh is.)
So, it was not Chicago *enough* in some ways that I think lended itself to the generic aspects too.
They made Batman feel like a person fighting other people, granted with bullet proof armor still, the fight scenes were surprisingly human.

Fr fr very realistic take reminded me of kickass fight scenes cause how realistic it was seeing Batman get hit every other punch 💯

Disagree on how he used his gadgets seamlessly. However, I only enjoyed the movie more because of it. We saw how he reached the ledge and got scared, then he uses the wing suit and crashes. Robert Pattinson has ALL the aspects of what makes Batman, Batman and also bringing in FINALLY the trauma and the suffering of a man whose been severely traumatized from his parents death that his life is out of wack and LOVE that we can see how his obsession and anger to fight against criminals and crime is so strong that it has effected his life massively that he doesn’t know how to act like person. It’s a story of how Bruce Wayne is trying to act like Bruce Wayne for himself AND other people to be a beacon of hope and light as he’s trying to overcome his own darkness.
And it’s ALL fantastically portrayed from subtle and nuanced facial expressions that convey his grief and experience of a man who looks like he has the world on his shoulders and I love it! As a Batman film, it was legit everything that a Batman film should be. He even spends a great deal of it being a detective. Interrogating, forensic analysis, puzzle-solving. We actually get to see Batman BE “the Worlds Greatest Detective”.
This film was purely outstanding and entertaining for once it gave justice, no pun intended to the original detective character of Batman found in the comics. Sound and vision excellent, cast even better. It was dark and menacing, loved it.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff Captain Michael Rodriguez, is a real life villain. Named after the San Benito County Sheriff Sergeant Michael Rodriguez, who's suppose to be Shame the conniving cowboy of crimes long lost henchman.
Mid movie, saw last night, ending was just seemed lack luster to me and they kinda just ended it at the flood fight scene, was just awkwatd
@@MClashers yes exactly...the person says they give justice to the detective role. I thought that too in the beginning of the movie but there wasn't much detective work lol. The scene where Pattison spray paints the floor and puts photos. I thought he was gonna connect the dots and figure out a key clue looooool. The movie was great. The story wasn't. Riddler was mad because Thomas Wayne got killed and couldn't fund the orphanage. What?!?! I thought there would a more deep disturbing secret. That Martha secret wasn't even bad. Falcone was the rat. Wow couldn't have guess that. Falcone owns the city. Hmm cool. Like the plot was so basic. I waiting like 3 long Years for this movie.
BTW batman is batman. No need for politics and white supremacy bullsh!t. (kinda ironic how cat women doesnt like 'white people' but then kisses batman the most privileged white man in the universe lmao this movie is a good joke)
The essential ingredients that make a movie a good movie in order from most important to least:
1. The story/plot/pacing
2. Dialogue
3. Characters
4. Cinematography
5. Score
The Batman has 10/10 on the Cinematography and Score absolutely beautiful art. Story is 6/10, Dialogue 4 or 5/10 (the modern dialogue exchanges suck) and Characters 8/10 (batman himself is 10/10 but other characters balanced it out)
Overall 7.5/10 wouldn't put it in my top 100 movies

yes! he was so unintentionally funny while being awesome and noble and just being classic James Gordon
Meh.... Jeffrey Wright was solid as always, but the main purpose of the Jim Gordon character in this film is simply to be a blank canvas for Batman to release expositional bukakke upon. Really under utilized what the character is supposed to be.
Yes, a bright star among bright stars. Everyone in this film was stellar.
Yeah I loved his chemistry with Battinson as well. It felt like a great friendship.
(Also felt like they were gonna kiss at some point--as homies)
You could’ve pulled that punch
Fuck yes can't wait for tomorrow mate to watch this shit testosterone explosionnnn😈
Holy shit, use paragraphs.
"Gotham is on another level. You'll be scared to pass by it..." so you've never been to Glasgow!🙄
I have always felt that Bruce Wayne in private was still Batman. Making him two different characters in private does not make sense.

@@204154529 Yeah true seems fair
So my theater in LA had Robert Pattinson surprise us before the movie played. One of the coolest moments ever and a fantastic film.
Woahhhh
Nice!
The first 15 minutes of the movie absolutely blew me away. My favorite opening for any comic book movie.
Pattinson's Batman captures the obsession better than any other live action incarnation.
Nearly 3h of Batman goodness?! Yes please! It being kinda a detective noir type movie makes it even better too!
I was stunned to hear tht it's 3 h! The time we're watching is at 5:15 pm but now it won't start until 5:30 pm bcuz of all the ads...
@Simulation algorithm 3 hours is doable if it's good n engaging like infinity war.. Tho the Snyder verse of 4h.. I couldn't do it.. I was bored of it.. Everything felt like a big cgi pool

Love Matt Reeves he was such a great choice to direct this movie. If he gets to do a trilogy it will be amazing.
Do you think he is definitely getting a trilogy?
@@megamikethemovieman if it becomes a big success like the Joker (box-office wise) then I can definitely see them making more.
Matt Reeves said he pitched a trilogy to Warner Brothers with him directing the first one and he named two directors that he wants to direct parts 2 and 3.
@@RadTindall different directors?? I hope they can keep the flow. If you want to checkout more Batman content I have tons of it on my channel my friend.
I freaking LOVED this movie, The Batman was so beautifully shot and intelligently written. Every character that had screen time felt well developed and I was interested in every single one of them. Freaking 10/10
This ENTIRE movie is a 10/10 MASTERPIECE! We have a batman movie where the best character in the film IS Batman/Bruce Wayne! Robert Pattinson is the BEST batman I've seen and he's PHENOMENAL as Batman AND Bruce Wayne entirely while still given him a new stylized look that's FANTASTIC to see! Love this movie to death as it's the BEST batman movie, felt like batman: the animated series BEAUTIFULLY brought to life! MASTERPIECE of a film throughout!
@@Gadget-Walkmen you’re a pretty intense dude. I dig it.
@@kylemathew205 so you agree with me, right?! Because I REALLY hope so!
Every actor / actress in this movie played their character beautifully. They were so true to their role and understood the assignment. Amazing movie 🎥
As a film scoring major student, I love how you mentioned Michael Giacchino's score!
😂😂
So much respect for what you are pursuing. Seriously, the composers don't get enough credit and it's literally what I notice first about any film.
@@universalsoldier2293 thanks bro! A film's music adds so much to the finished product, it's insane

Chris you are an absolute legend for mentioning the incredible soundtrack that is in this movie. Michael Giacchino is the John Williams of this age.
Patz was awesome as Edward Cullen. He did so much for that franchise as well as the rest of the cast, novels and film crew. That's why I was so happy to see him getting the batman roll. I remember crying when I heard the news.
He did it cause he needed money at that time. He himself HATES Twilight franchise. Look it up on UA-cam and other sites.
Glad he’s in the Batman. Can’t wait to see it. Also want to see the Lighthouse.
the batman has great storytelling , charachter development and smart writing , great acting , great action , great music , great camoes , great cinematography , great detective elements and riddles and new gadgets and technology used by batman , great story arcs good job matt reeves he is one of the best directors working in hollywood . the only bad part was the length of the movie .
I agree about Michelle Pfeiffer being the best Catwoman. Hands down.
Right up there with heath ledger as joker
Maybe not the best to play, but for me, no one filled out that costume quite like Julie Newmar
There aren't many options lol
Anne Hathaway was a joke. 😆
@@Whoa802 says the guy who has the 2003 hulk in his profile pic , that film is what’s called a joke
