What do you think of #danmachi ? Is is the most underrated #shonen #anime ? Instagram: Gallenberger1 #bellcranel #isitwrongtopickupgirlsinadungeon #familiamyth #danmachireview
1. Challenging character moral 2. New world history explained 3. High stakes without always needing a character backstory to make it feel impactful Your welcome
I love high stakes, but when I saw the late season where he lost his arm he got it back the same time. They don't need to die or get disabled forever, but at least for some time or even use the disability at his favor. And the fact that he alone defeat(not kill) that monster that the dungeon made to protect itself really made it seems waste cause that thing could destroy a whole army but he defeated alone. But the rest I completely agree with the video, taking the exaggerated harem and ecchi they did a incredible job at creating stakes and showing that actions have consequences.
What I like the most about danmachi is how it handles side characters... and there are lots of them. Even if you are anime only (there is much more in the novels, anime is even skipping some entirely) you realize that lots of characters have multiple arcs where they get developed... There are some similar anime where side characters have just one arc with the mc and then they go to the sidelines but with danmachi, they have always something new to bring to the table... Haruhime is main side heroine of S2... then she is perhaps Bell's biggest support in season 3, where she is the first one who accepted his decision to take in Wiene... and in season 4 she has pretty big arc regarding her role in the team and self worth... and same stuff happens with Lili, Welf and other characters (ofc Loli familia has its own novel too). Overall there are other shows that handle this aspect perfectly too... be it Mushoku tensei or ReZero but Danmachi... maybe because of the title or not the most fortunate anime start... is definitely not valued enough in the community, comparing it to some other series that are just not as good but on the surface they seem similar. I just hope fifth season will be as strong as fourth one.
watched around 2 seasons of it or so and it basically is. sure it has better animation than most fantasy/isekai fanservice shows but not much more than that
Idk if you watched it but I’d say delicious in dungeon does this pretty well although the main character isn’t the goodie hero type tho he is a strange case indeed. It’s genuinely one of my fav fantasy anime’s to date especially since it’s made by a studio I loved since a kid “studio trigger” I’ll always love their projects man!
My reminder to catch up on damachi. Also, can they just rename the show to Danmachi? I don’t know anyone who watches the show that refers to it by its English name. 😂
The English title is funny but also turns a lot of people off and it's too long. But highly recommend catching up before season 5, heard that's going to be epic
Yea, the title is a play on the stories Bell's grandpa used to tell him and Ep 1 directly subverts your expectations because Bell was the 'damsel' getting saved. Its such a shame that it only makes sense when you have that context, cuz alot of people just read that and go away😭
I kneel for DanMachi, man. Especially the S4 which for me was probably the best anime of the last year. Simply AMAZING, and yeah... it turned out very underrated over time.
@gallenberger1 yeah it does I originally watched the first two seasons when then they were on Netflix and it was really good so I'm excited to see the rest I just kinda got trapped by seasonal anime to keep up with danmachi which I kinda regret seeing this video and how good the writing still is in later seasons
Fun fact: Danmachi's original title was Familia Myth, but it was changed. I don't remember why it was changed, but you can see that the original title remains as Hermes in season 1 calls Bell's story the Familia Myth, and it is a part of its current title.
@gallenberger1 To me, Titles never matter, I'll go into an anime and watch half of season 1 then make my decision to continue it or drop it. Danmachi somehow just stuck to me ever since i first got into anime in 2021 Danmachi has always been my number 1. It may be sad to others but I've spent lot's of money on getting all the Light novels including it's others like Astrea Record, Familia Chronicle and Sword Oratoria.
@@Ushikoroshi Same here, I love silly titles. But a lot of people don't unfortunately. Glad to see another big Danmachi fan, it doesn't seem like there are as many I come around as I'd like
@gallenberger1 Yeah, I understand that, from what I've come across most Danmachi fans are Non-English so it's hard to communicate with them. I remember I was trying to play Danmemo before it was shut down earlier this year with Battle Chronicle taking its place and I could rarely find anyone that spoke English to help with things I didn't understand.
I like what they are doing for the main show but I hate how they botched SO. It was a great side story in the manga as it was like the main story but in a darker tone.
@@gallenberger1 The anime skipped a lot of content. For starters the beginning but was skipped. Also for Asfi’s group there were more. You can find the updated ones in Manga Dex. Sword Oratoria also had Finn go through his “Hero” arc trying to understand why Bell did what he did in Season 3
kinda weird coz all of the stuff you mentioned exist on other animes hell, 1 is literally the thing on captain america and the winter soldier 2 - fate series 3 - literally other animes, replace "monsters" with other in lore enemies 4 - i dunno.. very low death count on an anime that has deadly dungeon as one of the plot point is kinda goofy.. this aint like log horizon that dying is not dying for real but each death results to lost of fragments of memories until you are an empty husk type of thing.. also that first part, how many seasons and episodes passed before that scene took?
@Yurie13 To be fair, nothing is completely unique anime, and then the first example you gave was one of my favorite movies. These are Danmachi does well that a lot of others don't
This is nice. I just watched this episode 3 days ago. It was the internal conflict Bell was having was nothing, but amazing. Dix a horrible character called him out of this letting it be known he was a hypocrite. Though we see others work to help Bell's image in the end which settles the people. The Xeno's were the interesting things to add into the story. Learning more about what made them interesting in the story was great.
@@gallenberger1 Yes I liked that as was well. Especially when he fought Asterius again and lost. That experience caused him grow more as a character and helped him level up. He's now understanding his role as a leader for his familia and allows everyone to contribute to make up for his weaknesses. It's phenomenal.
@@gallenberger1 Same I'm glad to talk with someone about Danmachi. Recently I have managed to buy the light novels to find extra things the story didn't mention.
First time watching season 1 years ago I thought it was one of those random 1 and done anime they released every season. I think we going into season 5 or 6
@@gallenberger1 highly recommend the toaru series, tho mostly railgun as that is one of jc staffs best works, tho it's a side story to the main series, "index". If you want to get to the rest of toaru the light novels are best but the first 2 seasons of the index anime are serviceable.
1.36 I don't like this derogatory comparison: Naruto does pay prices for his morals quite often, the most prominent example is his whole pursuit of Sasuke despite everything. Also, the "talk no jitsu" isn't just a magic bullet: you have to at least sacrifice some of your ego and sense of righteousness in order to try and actually talk to an enemy, many times he's risking that enemy getting away or using the break in the fightto their advantage. Naruto's morality and "talkiness" don't come cheap at all
I was more using it as slang. Not always but there are plenty of times where the talk part is legitimately meaningful (which I actually bring up in each of my next two videos)
@gallenberger1 oh, it certainly was. I'm just glad I didn't watch it when it originally came out. Otherwise, the wait would've been absolutely agonizing. Having to endure each week for a new episode. I binge watched the entire series in like a week because I wanted to experience season 4 properly. And I'm so glad I did. 😊 the hype for season 5 is getting ramped up for me.

It's two tiers below the shows like AoT, its popularity fairly mirrored its level.
True dat
Mid at best.
Mid combat scene, mid character development, annoying MC(like almost all the harem anime MC). It is fairly rated.

Yep, fantastic point. Danmachi has a tremendous cast, and the relationships between them all feel important.
A lot of people thinks this is just another typical fantasy fanservice show that happens to involve a little goddess in a small dress.
