Can these be used on upper cabinets? Of course I would like the lock on the lower part of cabinet so I don’t have to use a step ladder to unlock it

You sure can. You would put your lock on the bottom side of your upper cabinet door.

The written instructions state to use a 7/64 bit. 7/16 is quite a difference in size.
