Spotting and flying the 747-400 from Mallorca!

- Join us for a ride on the beautiful Lufthansa 747-400, a very rare bird these days, and even more so within Europe. We're flying from Palma in Mallorca (PMI) to Frankfurt, one of Lufthansa's special Sunday flights during Easter. We begin the day by planespotting at PMI and meeting up with a bunch of friends of Flightradar24 who've all come out to greet the arrival of the 747. There's a Swiss A340-300 landing as an added bonus! And then we race over to the terminal to catch the 747 on its return leg back to Frankfurt, and we've got one of the best seats in the house - 84A on the upper deck. That means incredible wing and engine views and plenty of roar from those GE engines.

I WAS ONBOARD! i didn't see you since i was in business class in the very front of the nose!
I went to Palma in 1973 when I was in the Marines.
I was aboard the USS Shreveport LPD12 for the Med Cruise.
Palma was the most beautiful place Ive ever seen.Even seeing her from the ship deck at night at a distance was heart stopping.
If you viewers get a chance to go there,dont deny yourself the visit of a lifetime.
Place has changed a bit since 1973...but you can still find some georgous areas
You will faint when you have the coming spiritual awakening and you find out what the magical and legendary Mallorca really is =).It is a glorious time to be alive!Researching with an open mind is a blessing.
I was aboard both flights that day. LH1158 and LH1159. Best thing i have ever done!
Amazing views. I love 'The Queen.' I'd love to fly on her again before she is gone.
Economically this aircraft makes a great deal of sense. Although it consumes more fuel than a modern aircraft, it doesn't consume x2 of what a narrowbody does. So, it's 1 plane but carrying 350-400 people rather than 2 planes each carrying half that. Just 1 crew needed not 2, just 1 gate and ground crew needed rather than 2. Lufthansa are smart.
I'll be taking this same flight on the 747-400 in three weeks and I'm super excited!

Such a beautiful nostalgic bird. My favourite of all time. Was lucky enough to fly to vegas on virgin Atlantic a few years ago. I was astonished how big it was inside and the amount of people onboard, seeing a bar on an airplane and being able to go upstairs was something I'll never forget.
I will fly on this route with the 747 in 14 day I cant wait

Come to Málaga Airport, you can get much closer to the aircraft landing and taking off.

Reminds me of plane-spotting at BNE before they opened the second runway - there's signs on the fence at the spotting area advising 'beware of snakes' (and they're not the nice squeeze-you-to-death' types).

i mean this flight its honestly not that expensive.... palma to frankfurt its a couple hours flight. i'm going to book it just because of the plane also. flying to the US from europe is much much pricier i'm afraid

Was watching Airlines Videos Live last Sunday, Korean Airlines sent a 747 to LAX. It surprised even Kevin and Rudy.

Thank you Gabriel for another exciting experience and smooth pleasant editing, but most of all to keep the passion alive for those amazing flying machines. I flew the B747 Queen several times in & out of Sydney some years ago, when "economy" was still comfortable, I was always amazed to see its wings ondulate vastly upon landing and taking off...very impressive !
Now living by Nice Airport (and listening to ATCs) I wish I could see some visiting, as the biggest bird we used to spot : the Airbus A380 from Emirates stopped coming since the Covid pandemic.

As I fly from my home airport ZRH, we are very susceptible to the French ATC who are frequently either on strike or working purposely slow.
Last time I missed a connection to JFK in Lisbon and TAP had to put us up for the night. I will be respectful .

We get it here in Toronto daily from Frankfurt. Me, being an AV geek, never flew on a wide body aircraft, only the 737-800. Hopefully I get my Citizenship this year So I can fly to Germany before she is gone for good.
Everyday, I check the Boeing Company. I sometimes see the Boeing 747 Dreamlifter.

I have an engineering question. The engines on this model appear to be very forward after the leading edge.......I dont recall them being so far forward. Was this model issued with a design change on the engine placement?

When they landed they clapped bc they are basically thanking the pilot and saying well done for getting them there its pretty common actually

No this is only because it was a special flight. Most European flights feature zero clapping.

They are clapping because well you never know if you are going to land safely lol id clap too out of relief lmao
given the interest in this plane, other carriers should stop being such bit...es and do the right thing and at least keep one or a couple 747's in their fleet. I'm talking to you british airways, virgin atlantic, klm and so forth.... BRAVO LUFTHANSA!! Airplane enthusiasts and many, many passengers appreciate this aircraft and we definitely don't want to wave goodbye to it like we did with concorde. Keep the queen of the skies where it belongs!
