It came out really nice. I love the fact that you dont have to restyle the wig every time you wear it. Now i see why women used to wear hair nets lol makes for an easier way to hold a style!
Thank you for going into such great detail as to why it’s so important to use the smallest rollers on the bottom. I see people using them on the top far too often. They assume short hair needs smaller rollers. This isn’t true. You worked this style beautifully!
I love it, I don't know how long it took you to learn these things, but all I can say is God Bless You Tube, because I have learned about things my Mom did not know. I baked homemade rolls for Thanksgiving...and they were great, my Mom did not know how to bake, now I am starting to learn how to sew and crochet. So, you influencers are amazing 🤩
You did a fantastic job! I love the idea of a half wig. I wear vintage hair styles and the days where my wet set has failed or I’m in need of a wash and haven’t been able to, this is a fantastic option! I will be trying it out!
You should work for the movies! You are so good in recreating vintage styles: I loved watching you style that wig: it looks sooooo elegant and expensive in the end, I couldn't believe it was so unexpensive! You are a true artist! ❤❤❤👏👏👏👏
You should just do this to a lace front wig, a truly a protective hairstyle, not a worry about leave out cooperating or the resulting damage. If you can slay this little half wig to the gods I hate to see what you could do to a lace front. Oh and really keep and eye out for the mommy wig. Yes that’s the name I forgot what brand Outre maybe anywho I’m sure the styling options on that piece would give you endless possibilities tailored to black vintage hairstyles.
An elderly lady used the term "baking" in the curls.... that comment stuck with me. I do a wash and set with old fashioned rollers! every week and it works well!.... the rollers have what looks like bottle brushes running through the middle!, for gripping the hair on🏁😃
This is fantastic! I found your channel a couple months ago, and I've been making myself space your older videos out so I don't watch them all and have none left! I've really admired the style of your hair in all of those past videos, both the wig and your natural hair tied up in all the different pretty bows and scarves--so darned cute! It's great to see the technique behind it! Editing to add: I also think the style here is so classic that it fits outfits from the 1940s straight through the 1960s.
Just came across your video while looking for some inspiration for 1940s hair do (to wear with hat). Very detailed tutorial and the style turned out lovely.
for anything more sculptural iin the front i would advise to go for flat pin curls : i'm currently experimenting with all of the curling methods i own and know of and, beyond the fact that flat pincurls where the most common in the mid-century, i've noticed that it set my hair in the right shape, locks into place and stays styled longer than rollers (roller tend to have the longerlasting curl in the ends and reat volume at the top but it gives a more casual look, pincurls have a stronger curl at the root so the hair moves in the right position basically)
I have recently found u and i really enjoy watching u do this stuff!! Ur hair always looks natural and beautiful and i never could tell u ever wore a wig ❤
Were wigs popular among Black women in the 40s? I remember my grandma wore a wig later in life, but I’ve always wondered. You could definitely put this and the 1950s video in a special resources playlist.
I can’t say how popular or not popular it was but I can say it was common in general. I guess with everything it depends on the income of the household since there was a lot of rationing in the 40’s because of war I bet a lot of people went without. Not to mention women became factory workers while men were off to war so maybe not so much? Scarves and turbans became popular in the 40’s
I am trying to find more time for myself, it makes you feel better to do your nails, go shopping for you! Buy something pretty not just practical. I am going to take a week out of each month just for me. And, maybe just maybe, I will get to my hair, maybe I will start with a clip on and then work towards a wig. But I love your channel 💖
Good question unfortunately no. It sucks because I’ve searched before. However there are a lot more vintage Black people on Instagram and I made an entire highlight album featuring all of them. So we are out there and the best way to connect is on Instagram.
Hiiii !! I know you probably bought this wig a while ago but do you remember the shade? The website's color chart link is down. I am a hair stylist and watching your videos have been amazing for me for how I should accurately style black vintage hair
Five Hundred and, 55th comment on this video wuhh & (and) ooooh'k!! dlt day 2203 thubscribbled ... and fir'st commmint left check check. Enjoying the mellow vibe here.
Thank you I started down the vintage road in grade school. Then I took a break until adulthood. I just love the way things were built and designed back in the day apart from that the way I live is pretty modern just surrounded by old stuff. ua-cam.com/video/hhb6v9HbfTA/v-deo.html
No it’s synthetic you can totally do it with your real hair or a real hair wig but I wanted a style that is easy that doesn’t need to be restyled over and over. It takes me less than 10min to do my hair now and I’m out the door. My rollers are from Walmart but you can get them anywhere.
I roller set my hair every week and It stays in well!... the curls just get looser as the week wears on... I finger comb it.... then by Thursday start brushing! I do use a tiny bit of hair serum!... My hair is frizzy but goes smooth with a wash and set!🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I love all your vintage styles! Do you work with your local community theater at all? You have some fabulous skills for costuming, hair and makeup. I also think you'd be great on stage. You have a natural presence and really good voice.
I’m sure some people did, but considering assimilation was necessary to work and survive In the United States it was probably few and far between. But I know lots of talented women do inspired styles with their natural hair. I’ve done so in the past too when I had more time on my hands. Pre styled wigs have been quicker for me.
For the most part no. Serena has it right that finding a way to comply with white hair standards was.more beneficial to finding employment, etc. It's very recent that traditional black hair styles have come to be accepted at work and school in the US. Black natural hair definitely got a boost toward mainstream acceptance in the mid 60s to early 70s with the counter culture revolution and back to nature movement.
I love what you're doing with your channel There isn't very much on how black women looked during the forties beyond the black Hollywood star
I agree she should do one in a Afro type style .
@@rebekahpowers1595 that was more in the 70s
I'm a 75 year old white woman. I love love your style. You have greatly figure to showcase the styles. You have such a talent. God bless you.

I think the 40's was the most elegant fashion era. A lot of details and accommodation with quality material.
Me too!! I love this era, so effortlessly elegant…even the everyday looks were so chic, wearable& feminine 😍🥰

Omg she has the old school guard gates for the the toddlers. Beautiful, lady.

Thank you so much for watching
Thank you for showing up for us✊🏾✊🏿 !!!! Can you make a video on what inspired you to dress & live vintage?
It's always a joy to see new videos!
Thank you 💕 That means a lot
Styling on a stand has to save your skin from being exposed all the heat of styling and that has to be a good thing ☕💕

Hi Serena! Would you mind sharing the details on the double boar brush you used? I need that! 😊
I am so happy I found your channel
You are flawlessly beautiful ❤️
I loved this!! And it looks amazing of course ✨
You’re so very talented! Looks amazing!
Are there any online communities for black women who live vintage and are you a part of it. I live overseas, and vintage isn't easy to find.
Good question unfortunately no. It sucks because I’ve searched before. However there are a lot more vintage Black people on Instagram and I made an entire highlight album featuring all of them. So we are out there and the best way to connect is on Instagram.

I want a tutorial on making a corset if you know how or if you already have one please lmk.
you look absolutely gorgeous!
Use dry shampoo instead of corn starch. They now have one for dark hair. Didn't know you could do all that to synthetic wig.
Too cute!!!
That is a really beautiful hairstyle. Thank you so much for sharing it.

Is this a vintage wig? Is it human hair? Where can someone find this kind of wig? Thanks
So cute!

I don't wear wigs because I have a lot of hair my hair actually goes into my butt anyway I use Aqua Net
Lovvveeeee it
do you can style with your real hair ?
Is your wig natural hair, or synthetic?
You should do one using real hair ,women wore wigs but not as much it was usually a hot comb a curlers on the stove.
From morrocco 😘
Morning 🌄
Is this wig real hair? & can we do this with our hair or just for a wig? Did you get your rollers from "Sally's Beauty"?

i thought it was your reall hair:0
Definitely quality wig.
Do people notice the hair net 🤔?
It’s not a concern of mine so I’ve never asked.
Black women didn't wear their natural hair texture in the 40's? I'm only at the beginning. I so hope you feature our hair texture.
I’m sure some people did, but considering assimilation was necessary to work and survive In the United States it was probably few and far between.
