    Fun Facts:
    - A "spanish onion" is what English and Australian people (like me) call a "red onion". But in actual fact, spanish onions are yellow!
    - The other characters in this video are Blowbergine, Purple Haze, Tom Ato and Bull Burger
    - The voice of Bull Burger was supplied by Aspara Gus
    - This video was inspired by a type of movie called a Spaghetti Western. These were movies set in the American west but filmed in Italy.
    LYRICS (sing along)
    Intro
    My name is Tom Ato
    I sing with vibrato
    Sometimes staccato
    And sometimes rubato
    Most vegetables are safe
but there are some who strike fear
Capsicum can be used as a spray
Asparagus can be used as a spear
But there is no vegetable quite like the one I will sing about
    here
    His name is....
    1
    Spanish Onion - he’s a complicated guy
Spanish Onion - he can be sweet or make you cry
His coat is purple, he’s a man of many layers
If you catch him on a bad day..... you better say your prayers
    2
Spanish Onion - he is not for everyone
Spanish Onion - but for some he is yum
His coat is purple, he packs a punch
Only the bravest......eat him for their lunch
    3
Spanish Onion - you can eat him raw or fried
Spanish Onion - it is you who must decide
His skin is mauve, but his heart is white
If you love him too much.....he will keep you up all night
    Tomato Salsa!!
[everyone get up and salsa dance]
    4
Spanish Onion - he is small but he is strong
Spanish Onion - his taste lingers for so long
His coat is purple, he does not fear death
For he will live on..and on...and onnnnnnnn
    Forever on your breath
    STORY
Spanish Onion is the debut animated mini-movie from award-winning Australian children's band The Vegetable Plot.
The film begins "in the land of nightshade", where we meet our singing narrator Tom Ato, a vampire tomato. He sings about the dark side of vegetables before telling us that there is no vegetable more fearsome than the one he is about to introduce.....[whip crack]... Spanish Onion!
We meet Spanish Onion walking into the Salad Saloon where his pungent odour makes his vegetable friends Blowbergine and Purple Haze cry. After Spanish Onion uses his whip to grab a drink from the bar, the outraged patrons of the Salad Saloon demand that he leave.
While Spanish Onion is sitting outside, feeling rejected, the villainous Bull Burger enters the saloon and devours Purple Haze and Blowbergine. Hearing the sound of his friends in distress, Spanish Onion swallows his pride and marches back into the saloon to save the day.
After a musical interlude where we visit the off-the-hook Salsa Party (where again Spanish Onion is denied entry) the film ends with the climactic showdown between Spanish Onion and Bull Burger.
After sizing each other up through a series of classic close-ups, Bull Burger lips his licks and makes his move. With a swipe of his blade he cuts off Spanish Onion's purple skin. Spanish Onion screams, but is amazed to discover that he has an identical purple skin underneath. Bull Burger cuts off the second skin, but again, Spanish Onion sees that he has another skin underneath. Becoming frustrated, Bull Burger charges at Spanish Onion, who uses one of his skins as a matador's cape, whipping it away from the charging bull at the last moment. Bull Burger crashes into the dirt defeated. With a final crack of his whip Spanish Onion removes Bull Burger's horns, freeing his two friends.
The film ends with Tom Ato at the piano, singing the final extended note of his song, before jumping on top of his piano, turning into a bat and fluttering off into the night.
