    WOW! The lemon ammonia did wonders on our '04 C5. After many years of ownership, within a few days the airbag cover became sticky and unsightly. When I called C & S for advice Steve suggested Lyle's video. THANK YOU!! Still have to use vinyl treatment to get the black color back, but we're totally pleased! Thanks again, C & S!!

    Did exactly as he stated. And it took one rag and worked beyond great. I then put Armour All Leather Care with Bees Wax. Put the shine back on and it looks like new. C5 vette 2001. Thank you so much for your video.

    Hi Lyle, this is beninchesapeake. Got my air bag off in about 5 minutes and had it clean in about 15. The lemon ammonia really works fast! I have a 03 AE so I'm waiting for the first coat of paint to dry right now. Thanks again for a great cleaning tip and video!

    Wow!!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. I tried it today and it really, really works...and with ease. Up till today I tried interior cleaner, citrus goop remover, Windex, alcohol, tar remover and lacquer thinner, brake cleaner and WD-40. None of them worked.
    This lemon ammonia trick did the job beautifully and easily.

    Really appreciate the advice in this video. After trying soap and water, mineral spirit and a lot of scrubbing, I saw this video and then tried lemon ammonia. The sticky stuff ran off almost like melting ice cream. Thanks a million for this solution.

    I just used lemon ammonia on my 50th anniversary edition. It did an amazing job. I used armor protectant on it prior and let it dry. Then lightly put ammonia on cloth. It all came off and no discolor. Thank you!!!

    Worked perfectly. On a 17k mile Vette never in the sun, the cover still got sticky. The ammonia treatment worked perfectly. I followed it up with some black shoe cream, which restored it to factory black. Wow, should have found this solution before. Thanks!!!

    I have to agree with all those comments below. THE SOLUTION to a sticky airbag cover is the lemon ammonia. I poured a small amount into a very small spray bottle. Sat in the car with a towel over my legs and carefully sprayed the cover. It took 3 applications, but only had to use one micro fiber towel. Worked like magic. Thank you for this great tip.

    Broooo! I was looking at buying a different steering wheel! I bought “expensive” Brillo brand lemon ammonia ($7). One microfiber towel and it’s ALL gone!! Some rubbing with the microfiber town and it’s got zero stick! Sure it’s matt e colored now but it’s great. I used Armor All protectant wipes the whole steering wheel which brought back a little shine. I mean. $7.00!! Done! Thank you!!!

    • @csvette
      @csvette  Рік тому

      Excellent!! Stay away from Armor All--it dries things out. Go to something like Vinyl-x that nourishes the vinyl rather than depletes it. Other than that, great job! Lyle

    Sunlight and heat may accelerate things, but this process simply removes the paint that has reacted over time with the vinyl. The black version is painted too, it is just that when you remove the paint, the vinyl underneath is black.

    Hey Lyle, what did you use on the crossed flags, the little horn symbols and the AIRBAG lettering? A toothbrush, maybe??

  • @stevestepro2354
    @stevestepro2354 4 роки тому

    I did the black air bag cover on my 2003. I used Goof Off to clean it and it worked good. The only problem is once you clean it not only is it not shiny any more, but it is not black either, it's more of a Gun Powder Gray. I used VHT SP942 Satin Black Vinyl Die and it came out looking brand new. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE CAN. 3 Coats, light, light, medium in a controlled atmosphere and allow plenty of time to dry. VHT, Duplicolor, and Krylon are all part of Sherwin Williams and is good stuff.
    You are right, I don't think the Shale matches exact. There is another brand (I think it's SEM) that I've been told is closer but I don't have Shale so I'm not sure.

    I had the same problem with my C5 air bag cover. I used Isopropyl Alcohol (97%), an old sock and a clean cloth. The aloohol is readily available at your grocery, drug or box store. Add alcohol to the rag, wipe around the cover, changing to a clean section as needed with new alcohol added. Wipe with clean cloth. Continue the cycle until the cover is clean. Add leather/vinyl treatment to bring the shine back. Looks like new.

    I have my 2000 C5 at C&S right now. I'm pretty good at fixing most things that aren't electrical, even some electrical. But these cars are big time electrical nightmares. If you need work on your Vette, I would recommend these guys over ANYBODY. Period. BTW, I drove it 100 miles one-way to get it here......
