    Nice topic, and yes 3 of 15 is super high in my experience. They can definitely be little buggers 😆

      Phil thanks for the details. The good news is two of the three are eating on their own. The third took another assist last night. So hopefully he comes around.

    Well done , great success for your first year. I have done a little assist feeding this year and so I know how you feel.

      Thank you. I'm just happy they are going to succeed and I've been able to sort out how to assist feed them.

    Great video. I had a few this season that I had to assist feed as well. It was super frustrating but they do eventually get the idea lol.

    Great video. I knew one day I’d eventually have to do this with me being in my 2nd season. Well about a week ago, I watched a few videos and then I attempted to assist feed one of my hatchlings with a frozen thawed pinky mouse. It took me 2 tries to get her to take it and I was successful. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

      I'm glad it went well. I agree, it's something we need to be ready to do, and getting the experience takes away the mystery and fear/comcern of doing it. Thanks as always for the watch, comment and support.

    A few things I’ve noticed. Mouse hoppers seem to scare away some hatchlings. Normally the first meal I offer is a rat fuzzy and most eat them. But I’ve a few snakes that ate rat pups as there first meals after refusing mouse hoppers and rat fuzzies. The few that I have assist fed like you said recognize the benefit from the meal and start to seek it themselves.

      Matt, you summed it up. One of mine in particular is just scared of everything. Crazy animals!

    Our first clutch, 2 have eaten out of 6. We're still trying. Hopefully we won't have to assist feed, but we'll do what we have to to ensure they thrive

      How many weeks old are they?

    • @Jasperdragon137

      @@ProperRoyals 3 weeks since they all hatched out, so we still have time and we're not too concerned, but it can be nerve-racking. It's like you said, know your snakes. Our adults will pound food like crazy, but one is a mouser😒, 2 would only take live...we finally got them to switch to frozen thawed and we're thrilled!!...and our girl from BHB just goes off food once every so many weeks.

      @@mattevanswastaken ft mouse hopper, none took them. Went to our local show to pick up live, and all they had were pinky mice....too small, we know, but we figured it was something. Only 2 ate. We ended up giving the 4 uneaten pinkies to the 2 that ate and the ODs we got off of Adam. They were gone within minutes. We're picking more up this weekend and we'll continue to try with the FT as well. Oh, and we also tried the vanilla trick and it didn't work🤷‍♀️

      @@Jasperdragon137 You should try rat fuzzies, pinkies don’t provide much enticement. The provide a bigger heat signature with movement and more scent.

    Have 2 problem eaters out of my clutch. Having to assist feed them each meal so far. My problem is getting them to eat on their own. One clearly acts hungry and doesn’t fight the assist feeding much. The other is a nightmare to assist feed each time, has zero interest in food, and fights me like crazy

    • @ProperRoyals
      @ProperRoyals  Рік тому

      Keep at it. They come around eventually. It's so strange, just out oof nowhere they go on their own. Keep offering and going through the process. 👊

    Also what do u think it could be I bought a lesser female and she pooped like 5 times in a week and we’re not good looks ing runny and like yello could it have been stress from transport she is doing good now but I didn’t no at first was Verry scared for her

    • @ProperRoyals
      @ProperRoyals  2 роки тому

      It's hard to say. I see all kinds of variation in the poo. I kind of take a more hands off approach, and really make sure the temps, humdity, and room lighting are super consistent. If it's eating now and seems happy it sounds like keep doing what you're doing consistently.

    I have a 10 month old snake she was eating like a champ and all of a sudden she stopped eating last month nothing has changed in her environment and she is pretty small for her age and we have tried everything other than assist feeding do you recommend doing this at this point
