As we get to week 5 of the van build we come to a huge realisation, it's all too much and we aren't good enough to get the van built in 50 days! We tackle lots of jobs in this weeks video and explain how we're feeling and what's going to happen moving forward from here.. But there is a silver lining: IT'S BACK TO VAN LIFE !

I think you've missed the point of the free van. You're trying to perfect it when you should've just left everything as is, rust and all after putting it back in and go off enjoying it for a few years instead of going down rebuild route.

Actually I’ve rarely seen people sort out old rust etc the way you have, think so much about materials that are lightweight and long and hard about the design. It’s actually refreshing as there’s a reason Vinny has lasted so long. If you care for your van it’ll last so much longer and you can’t put a price on peace of mind it’s done properly. Well done guys. This is actually a very different van build blog from so many others. I’m loving it. Take care x

Absolutely ditch the 50 day deadline! There is no point in setting an arbitrary finish time, just do it in your own time and enjoy doing the build. You’re doing a great job! The finished article is the most important.

The thing with all the pipes on is the fuel pump. You can actually fit a pipe in there to run a diesel heater, saves having a separate tank.

Great work guys and I love the vinyl. I don’t think you’ve failed and I don’t think you should feel that you have failed in any way. Look at all the jobs you have done and all the progress you have made. You guys are just so dedicated and hard working. Take time out and have a break and when you come back, you can crack on with phase 2 of the van build. No one said you had to do the van build in 50 days OR even in 50 consecutive days. I actually admire that you had the chat, listened to each other, considered everyone’s needs, and then made the right decision for your health and sanity. Trust me, your van build will be better for it. The challenge you set yourselves, helped you do as much as you have so far. Stand back and admire what you have achieved. Great work!!!!!! That's the best decision you've made. Take your time and be in the moment, enjoying each day, so venture out with doggies, have a break, then you can focus on the van build without the stress of time constraints. 💚

I may be too late here, but I would put lino a small bit up the walls, like a skirting board. Means that if you ever have a leak/spill, it doesn't go down into the van/your insulation. I was sorry I didn't do that the whole way round in my own van build. Love your vlog!
Run a bead of silicone, but yeah, I am glad I curved my floor up a little. Helps with spills!

I’m totally and utterly convinced that my decision not to do a self-build many years ago - was the right decision. You guys should be so proud of what you’ve achieved already. All power to you both xx
😂😂.. We decided not to do a van build too after looking into how much work it is etc hence the reason we jumped at the chance for going to Germany and collecting a ready made van😂😂.. The rest is obviously CRAZY!! Thanks so much for watching..😁

Failure is not giving it a go. Don’t beat yourselves up. You are doing a thorough job on the van and finding unexpected things that quite rightly you are resolving. Take some time out for yourselves. ❤
When I was doing my van builds I found that, if I had a problem or wanted to work something out, sleep on it. I often found I had the solution the next morning.
I totally agree with your new approach, doing the work is stressful enough without having a self-imposed deadline. And, by the way, a self build is never actually finished! There are always tweaks and changes to be made long after you thought you had finished. So, get it to a usable stage and then see if anything needs changing.
It will be great to see you on the road again in Vinnie.

When I was doing my van and wanting hubby to help me, we nearly got divorced 10 times, lol. So take your time. The van will be there another day. It is easy to get caught up and obsessed with lists of jobs to do, etc. Don't forget to enjoy yourself. Michelle

Hi guys you made the right choice dont put yourselves under pressure, we are in the same stage of a van build do it once do it right.
At least you have nice weather to work in. Snow, ice and minus 20 here. Wish I was at your latitudes.
You won’t regret paying attention to detail, sorting rust while it’s easy to get to and taking time over these things. So it takes a bit longer, who cares? I know it must be frustrating not being able to travel but you want a van to be proud of and not regret getting things just right. It will be your home on wheels and you will definitely appreciate having made a good job of it and not rushing things. Plus it will be no good to you if you make yourselves ill over it and end up hating it! Good luck and take it easy!

Please don’t put pressure on yourselves, you set a challenge and just because you may not achieve it, it doesn’t really matter.
What does matter is that you have your health and with putting pressure on yourselves will take its toll on you.
Just take your time, don’t rush it and enjoy doing it.
All your subscribers will still appreciate the build which is looking brilliant by the way.

There's an old Saying 'More Haste Less Speed! You don't need a time limit at all! The Fuel Pump is what you showed early in the video! Use some Beading on the gaps with side walls to floor, that's what is used to hold glass into wooden doors!

Hi guys a good van build takes time ,don’t feel pressured to have it done on a certain time scale you both have to get some me time aswell . I admire what you have done so far take a break and go have some fun in the good old vinster you deserve it the van will be there when you get back, also gives you time to think any problems through. Hello Nick and Sarah and the boys, I’m sorry I haven’t commented in quite a while. I’ve been very sick for a long while. I haven’t missed any of your videos though. You guys are doing wonderful. I’m glad to hear that you’re going to start taking breaks. Putting pressure on yourself like that is definitely a way to get burn out and explode. I’m so very happy that you were able to get this van. I know you’ll do a great job. You seem to be very thorough people. That’s why it might be taking a little longer. That’s not a bad thing. That’s a very good thing. At the end of your build, you’ll know how strong it is, and as you said before, you’ll know where everything is. Love from my little Dexter and I. Thank you for sharing all these videos. I was able to keep a smile on my face while watching them when I was ill. As you know I love you guys from day one. Good for you two giving yourself some grace. Part of the reason you live this lifestyle is to not be constricted by schedules. Relax, enjoy Vinnie, film when you feel like it and don't when you don't. Maybe even take a week or two off and give yourselves a real break and we will all be here when you are ready. Spend some time with those beautiful puppies, enjoy this weather. I'm also in love with that new puppy who is hanging around... s/he is adorable. There is nothing more unhealthy than stress, and don't puppies help us with that? Also, you keep saying you don't know what you're doing but from what I see you know exactly what you're doing and it seems to be going really well .

The little dog with blue eyes is an Australian Shepard . If it is homeless adopt, it ! Looks like one we had who is now deceased . Such a sweet breed !❤️
It's a diesel sensor it feeds fule to the engine and you can plug your diesel heater to it too😘❤️

Thought the failure was going to be that you had cut the Lino too short. Realising your challenge is causing you more stress and accepting this is a positive thing not a failure. Enjoy taking your time over the build and also your short trips in Vinster you haven’t had any decent time to relax since heading off to Berlin. Look forward to seeing you camping out in Vinster hope it goes well.
Brilliant vlog, great to see the build coming on so well. You are right to pay attention to the niggly things, rust and squeaks etc, worth it in the long run but that attention to detail takes time. So honestly take your own time, there's really no rush, and enjoy travelling out in Vinnie as well, love that wee van! 😊
You haven't failed at all x plans change or get refined and that's OK. Better you do it slower and enjoy it, than rush it, burn yourselves out and regret it (with the very real possibility or mistakes or injuries when under pressure) xx see your in between trips as little rewards along the way 😊
