I've always heard it as a description of the life, dreams and spirit of the working classes. Born to trudge, free to dream, keeps on trudging to the end with no change in a life's lot to the end, all with a resigned flair.
It honestly feels as if I am taking off, flying, and then landing. Such a powerful, masterful interpretation. Such great cinematography to compliment it too.
It is because the Polish Ox Cart is a moving thing. At first it is far away, then it gets closer and louder, then it is at the peak when it passes right in front of you, then it gets further and further away, the sound is softer until it fades into nothingness. An excellent example of programmatic music, music that genuinely moves, both literally and metaphorically.
@@user-vi4hw5qs3y Officially, Mussorgski was interested in the sight of oxen in the field, but he wrote in the sheet music (partitura) that it was the caravans of Polish exiles chased by Siberia "like cattle" that inspired this work. G# minor is one of my favorite keys, and it doesn't appear in classical music all that often. This is probably why "Bydlo" is my favorite movement, second only to "Great Gate of Kiev"
When I first watched this video, I thought that Karajan's (conductor) style was bland and had no expression. Then, I listened to Bydlo many times through, and realized that my assumption was hugely mistaken. The purpose of this piece is not meant to be extremely robust or startling, but rather to retain its solemnity even in its most powerful moments. It's truly a sad piece, but also marvelous. After this realization, I genuinely do not think that any person on earth could have conducted this in a better manner. He acknowledges the that the purpose of Bydlo was to be extremely serious and solemn, and he expressed it perfectly.
Karajan bragged about recording these in only one take. The audio engineers recorded every second of the rehearsals and never told the Maestro that they cut and spliced more than a few bad Brass players entrances out. This may look easy, I play Viola, it's not easy.
Idk why. It's clearly an F tuba, too big to be a Euphonium but too small to be an Eb tuba or larger. Also, the positioning of the piston valves being on the front.

This is the most majestic piece of music ever written.

The best possible music depiction of despair of human existence.
