How to Repair a Crack in Drywall

- Step by step tutorial on fixing a drywall crack. A couple tips:
1. When texturing or feathering, mix in a little water if you feel the mud is too thick.
2. You may want to soak the paper when applying, or add a little water to the mud. This can help the paper bond better.
3. At 2:16 the monkey noise is from my kids watching Jumanji. It's a classic.
4. If your wall doesn't move or is solid, you may not need to put in the drywall screws.
5. I only mentioned it, but I put the screws ~1.5 inch and 6 inches from the cracked wall on both top and bottom in the studs. If your crack is vertical, you will place in the studs near the crack.

Thank you so much! I'm currently preparing to drill my wall to hang some painting and was worried about creating cracks. This majorly reassured me!
Great, easy to follow, and short video without skipping out on the steps. Thank you for the primer reminder. I just patched a hole in my drywall and was going to get into your paint matched, but now I know I need to grab some primer!
Thanks for watching, Dorena.
great video! To the point and no fluff! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much
I moved into recently renovated home and we have about 2 cracks like that and now i can fix them with thanks
Very informative. All worked for me. Thank you very much.
Great job clear and concise
Really nice repair ~ if I were doing it, I would have used quickset and mesh tape for the initial repair, than regular mudd for the finish coats as the repair would have been far stronger and less likely to ever separate in the future.
Good tips
I have found that StepSaver Stress Crack Tape is better than paper or mesh tape.
Paper tears unless you are extremely careful sanding. Also it is a millimeter or so thick so it's not easy to make the fix smooth unless you use a lot of mud. Also, it is not flexible, so if your wall shifts later, the crack will reappear.
Mesh tape is strong and flexible but it has more thickness than paper tape so the checkerboard pattern shows through when you sand unless you use a LOT of mud.
Stress Crack Tape is thinner than onion skin. It is also flexible like mesh tape and is just as strong.
Your local Lowe's and Home Depot might carry it but my stores don't. However, Sherwin-Williams stores do. It is about $4.00 for a package which has 12 strips of varying widths, all about 6" long. You can use the size width you need and it can be cut easily with a pocket knife, scissors or putty knife.
Excellent tip. Thanks for sharing.
Great job
Excellent. Thank you.
Thanks buddy help a lot😃😃
Thank you!
Good job
Instead of using the paper tape, there is a product called Crack Tape. Crack Tape is a very strong drywall tape that you have to cut with scissors, and has holes in it that the drywall mud goes through. Crack Tape is very strong and flexible. You also cannot rip Crack Tape with your hands or try to rip with a dryewall knife. I ordered it online.
great tips thanks.
Yessir. Thanks for watching.
This was a magnificent video.
Thank you sir. You are a magnificent viewer.
@@beefmaster_james I certainly appreciate it.😊
Apply mud in thinner flatter layers....makes final sand easier.
Excellent tip. Had to go through the school of hard knocks for that lesson.
Not too shabby good buddy
Thank you my friend
I can do this!
Did you fix your foundation, too?
Great job. But that all purpose joint compound is too hard to sand. Use 45 min and mix your own.
Good tip. Saves time and money that way.
I’m just going to paint over my crack
Use Fiba-Fuse instead of paper !
Why isn't it recommended to use the paint and primer? Sorry trying to learn.
Paint and primer is fine to use over a finished wall or existing paint. A true primer will bond and seal over mud much better than a paint and primer mix. Primer usually takes less than an hour to dry, so would definitely recommend just using that.
@beefmaster_james Ok, thank you. I used to take painting and remodeling as a trade at a vocational school, and I've forgotten the majority of it and am trying to learn everything again. Thank you for your help.
Hi there, I 'd like to offer you the product to make videos, how can I talk with you for the details?
Without a structural remedy the crack will return. Get an estimate from foundation specialists and fix the problem before doing so the drywall work.
you're a hero sir. 🫡🫡
Thank you!
