Train diesel engines are often kept running even when trains aren't moving to meet operational needs, such as charging batteries, warming engine fluids, and keeping air pressure brakes applied. A cold engine, starting up produces huge amounts of soot and carbon, a hot engine produces much less. Leaving an engine running, rather than re-starting it all the time, is massively less polluting

WDP4D is kept in idle for 2 reasons
1. There is no trip shed in SCL ( nearest at LMG) so if engine fails when switched off will be an issue.
2. 2 strokes ( WDP4B/ 4D) are inherently fuel efficient. Nothing to save fuel.

I given link which clearly explains why diesel engine cannot be turned off.the explanation given by railway employee.the main reason is run compressor to apply break to engine otherwise engine may move forward without drivers

Diesel loco fuel capacity is 6000-7000L capacity.with one litre the diesel loco can run 2-4 km per litre .this is just an assumption said by my colleague .not sure whether it is wrong or right.but am sure diesel loco consumes more fuel that’s why Indian railways prefers electrification so as to make the environment eco friendly and fuel saving.

Because to maintain air pressure in brakes it needs to run air compressor which needs electricity it will produce from locomotive by maintaing loco in idle in certain locomotive not all

Loco Starting sequence was very tough and brake pressure maintenance is very high in emd locos
When the engine was in continuous ideal the engine oil pump and fuel pump was in ordinary running condition once the engine was turned off starting sequence of the engine control panel was very tough and engine oil was totally drained into oil sump in the engine

139 is not free Rs.2 per minute in Airtel/BSNL /Vodafone only jio offers free service 139 & I have many times tweeted to Railway minister & PM regarding this charges for help line number 139 but nothing happened till now, it should be toll-free number but mobile operator charging except jio network

Bro if the train driver off the disel engine and the brake pipe was locked in pressure for 2 hours or upto8 hours when the pressure completely released the train driver start the engine if the pressure is not released then the engine doesn't stop even they putting brake 🎉

Aroani Express is weekly. Used to earlier GHY TVC then became SCL TVC now short terminated at CBE. One of the worst trains to travel. Old Rikety ICF coaches. NEFR is the most lethargic zone in IR they don’t even keep the coach composition uniform among rakes. Check BNC GHY express, 4 rakes with 4 different composition. Even full AC train like LTT KYQ has weird AC Composition. Bunch of idiots

IT is nice that you got your Dormitory accomodation after you got super responce from railways by using this Helpline number. The first train you travelled from Silchar to Dharamnagar is really slow.
