My older brother (26m) owned a small candle business, he decided to let his buddy (24m) cashier there. His friend was incredibly rude, and profits dropped a lot. He instead ignored the customers complaints and fired the majority of his staff before his buddy confessed that he was a horrible cashier.. He has since recovered his business but that story is a very popular joke at family gatherings.

There was a cafe like that in my old neighborhood. The owners worked there on weekends and were nice and friendly. But they hired a woman who would sit behind the counter reading mysteries. When people would come in she would look obviously irritated and sigh while she put her book down.

The story about the elderly being scammed makes me so pissed.
My late Mom, caring and savvy lady that she was, sent me e-mails anytime she heard about any scams as a way to keep me safe. Let's just say I'm not exactly young.
Miss you, Mom. You were one of the best ladies I've ever known. ❤

    So many...
Pulling a gun during a small family argument on Thanksgiving (my mom).
Beating up his own drunken elderly father, and then getting the same man sent to jail after he was released from the hospital (my uncle)
My father purposely setting himself on fire, while driving on the highway, and talking on his cell-phone, and refilling a lighter, while steering with his knee. He spilled lighter fluid on his jeans and decided to light it to "burn it away".
But the absolute worst was probably my former stepmother, in a rage, hitting my father in the head while driving on the highway. Which resulted in a horrific high-speed rollover where I got ejected through the passenger's window. 4 revolutions total, thrown on the 3rd. My stepmom broke her neck in the same wreck. I broke a shoulder on the window, got heavily lacerated by popcorn "saftey glass", and received serious whiplash injuries and a concussion from my impact with the ground. I was hospitalized for about 11 days (though I barely remember that part). It was a horrific result from a series of stupid angry actions.

Cue electric shocks and crying to our mom.

One of the worst decisions I’ve seen a relative make was when my sister decided to have another child. She had horrible depression during her first pregnancy. Thankfully she was diagnosed and was on medication throughout the end part of it. She had the baby and was okay in the beginning but stopped breastfeeding and her hormones spiraled again. She became horribly depressed. Her mother in law moved in and helped her…the thing is her mother in law tended to the baby 24/7, did household tasks and took care of my sister too…so the baby was almost 4 and my sister got bit by the baby bug again and wanted to get pregnant. I warned her that it probably wouldn’t be the best decision. She had moved an hour away from her family and her support group. But she plowed her head and she got pregnant…This pregnancy wasn’t too bad because she went on meds right in the beginning… but when she had the baby, it was in the middle of November, and my sister suffers from seasonal depression. Her husband was at work all the time. Her mother-in-law was also really sick and was not available to come and help her out like she did last time. My sister begged her husband to hire someone like a nanny which they could have afforded but her husband refused saying he didn’t want some stranger coming to take care of his kids. My sister ended up with a mental break and he came home to my sister sitting on the front porch without a jacket in the middle of December, and the baby inside crying while her older sister tried to calm her down. He finally realize that maybe my sister needs some help and his solution was to take her over his parents house. Again my sister’s mother-in-law was sick and had a lot of health problems and so my sister ended up taking care of her, the house and the baby. I don’t really think it did any good because in the last 11 years since the baby’s been here, my sister has had two more mental breaks, my brother-in-law had to quit his job and become a full-time caregiver to her and personally I think he wanted to be there for his two daughters because I think he was worried that my sister may have a mental break and wouldn’t hurt the kids, but wouldn’t tend to their needs either… it’s just been a big mess since my second niece was born. And every time we’ve visited my sister, she favors the oldest, and isn’t exactly neglectful of the youngest but you can tell she favors the oldest, and she has told me that she does regret the youngest. but the child is here… I just hope that the little girl doesn’t get forgotten and passed over and does something outrageous to get her parents attention… my sister and I have had a falling out and I have not seen them in five years. I do talk with her on Facebook, but again we have not seen each other face-to-face in five years. All the pictures I see, the little girl seems OK, but my sister has said she is very shy, reserved, and more emotional than her oldest child. She says that she’s really not sure on how to deal with the child’s emotions because they really throw her for a loop sometimes. And her husband feels the same way about therapy as he did about a nanny. That he doesn’t want some stranger messing with anybody’s head. It’s sad really.😢

My sister mooched off my mom for so long I was astonished to later hear she'd gotten a job. Even more astonished even later when I found out she'd gotten married. I can't imagine what anyone could possibly see in her, she's an abusive narcissist who manipulates people into doing what she wants. Dad and I are estranged from her because we saw through her BS and refused to play along. She has a kid now, apparently. I pity that poor child.

My aunt has had "free" groceries if she gave her credit card info, TWO "social security administration" calls of "if you don't do this, we'll arrest you" AND the "relative is in jail & needs bail". The person that "needed bail"? He was an areana league football coach with kids in their 30's. I just happened to catch the first 3, then she said no to the last thank god!

Oh, hohohoe. I have a good one. In our large family we have a relative (man, early 30's back then) who is rather wealthy. He's just an awesome dude and can buy pretty much whatever he wants. He was married to a real snake of a woman (mid 20's back then). She had only married him believing that it was his parents who held all the money. But, she had enough one day because the parents were still alive and healthy and she wasn't even close to receiving any inheritance soon. So she claimed to be unhappy in her marriage and wanted a divorce. He just went along with it since he had already figured out that her only motive to marry him in the first place. Years go by, he gets remarried to a true saint of a woman, they have kids and they move into a new house. The ex wife finally caught on to the truth about his wealth and demands to get him back. Long story short, her plan totally failed and she's still a B about all of this.
    Suck on a grenade, Linda!

    Yes, yes, yes, yes!
As someone who grew up with parents that should’ve divorced ages ago (because of how toxic it gets when they’re together), I can say it does affect the kids. I literally hated anything that forced me to go out of my room like family nights (with all the family not most of the family) because the chance of the atmosphere being so thick you could’ve cut it with a knife from the toxicity of their marriage or just being so forced and uncomfortable was almost 100%. Now if someone tells me that I should eat without watching UA-cam with headphones on can go **** themselves with barbed wires in my book because it triggers so many memories of me wishing to be left in my room alone, away from any social setting that could get forced or unbearable.

Story 15 - I’ve lost a few family members due to heroin, some multiple times (narcan). I’m extremely grateful the family members who DID make it out the other side are still here, but it was an extremely hard time coming. I also was robbed of knowing my uncle (died when I was about to turn 1). Combined with the Fentanyl crisis rn, it’s so, SO not worth it. There is no “just one time”. Please don’t.

My father had just completed his rehab for his bad alcohol addiction. My uncle decided he should celebrate. My mother told him not to go but my dad (the youngest of his family) looked up to his bog brother and went.
My uncle proceeded to get him drunk and high. Later my uncle would encourage my father to cheat just like he had done to his wife, as their father had done to my grandmother. It all went downhill from there. My father died some years ago due to cancer exacerbated by his inability to stop drinking and smoking.
Although my father had himself to blame for going along with him we'll forever blame my uncle for ruining my father's life.

Already typed out a whole 10 patagraph storyline but the yt app didnt react so it didnt post. This is the short version.
My dad cheated on my mom for about 2 years. The mistake he made? (Besides cheating in the first place) posting a picture of a lake on his instagram story. My mom was already highly suspicious and therefore informed ny aunt about it (wife of her brother). Aunt looked into the people he follows and - the men and married woman, narrowed the list of potential mistresses down to maybe 5 woman. There is some stupid tradition that says on a particular day of the year all bodies of water turn into holy-water-esque stuff at midnight. Being the pseudo religious dude he is (never seen the inside of a church for reasons other than attending the most mandatory events of my brothers, and I), he went in with his friends every year, but this year decided to post on his insta story about. Guess who posted a picture of the same lake, 5 meters to the side: the mistress.
(Edit: corrected the typos, sorry for the tough read through)

My parents bought our family home in Ohio when I was 10. That was in 1964. They paid it off when my Dad retired at 62 in 1986. I had enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1977, and was living in Arizona by 1990.
Mom got Alzheimers not long after, and to get her the care she needed could not have property to qualify for Medicaid. Even though my parents Will stated that we were to split everything, I allowed the house to be Quick Claimed to my ex-sister, (you'll see why I say that in a minute), since she had stayed in Ohio. She moved back into the house, the idea was that she was going to take out a 20 year Home Equity Loan to do some much needed repairs and upgrades, sell the place, and we'd split the proceeds. I even told her that I'd settle for 1/3 instead of 1/2 since she'd been there to help Mom out towards the end. She took a second, because she said that the place needed more work than she thought, but it was only a 10 year loan.
However, unbeknownst to me, she started refinancing that first Home Equity Loan, taking more and more out each time. For all I know, the story of the second loan might have just been the first refinance.
When the second, 10 year load was scheduled to be paid off, 2008, I told her that it was time to sell so that I could start planning for my retirement. For what she had told me about the loan, if it had only been that much, with what she could have gotten for the house, she could have paid off everything she owed, bought a small house for her and her husband, and had money left over for a new car. I could have used my part to pay off MY mortgage, and saved that money.
Well, She and her husband got "comfortable" in the house, and didn't want to move. I got so P.O.ed at her that I hadn't talked to her since.
Fast forward to 2020. She refinanced that house so much that she eventually couldn't keep up the payments, and LOST the house. She's the only person I've ever heard of that was GIVEN a house, and lost it to the bank.
I wound up retiring at 67 instead of my hoped for 62, am still paying my mortgage, and her and her husband live in a small apartment in a large complex instead of a 2 story, 3 bedroom house with a nice yard.

The first story about the drug addicted friend got a laugh from me when the guy brought in a couple Pit Bulls for protection. Nope! I’ve been a dog person my whole life and never had a Pit attack. A nurse friend swore she saw kids mauled by them but in my life never one Pit has gone after me. I’ve been cornered by Rottweilers, lots of Chihuahuas, and a couple Labrador Retrievers, and been bitten by a small mixed breed and a Parson Russell terrier. Had a German Shepherd play too rough once when I was a kid. That’s it. Actually a few German Shepherds tried to come after me in my adult life but owners came in time to call them off.
When my house was broken into my Pit coward in bed with me while I waited for the police. My last Pit got out one day at the end of her life. Before I could grab her she was out in the street stopping neighbors in their cars and demanding they roll down their windows and pet her. She was the penultimate attention whore.

I got one. A good friend of mine who was like a second father to me had passed away after battling cancer. He was a very close to me and my family and we where close with his family as a result. How ever once he died about a week later his wife started seeing someone who was in the masons with him. I did not like this guy instantly and after a week with this guy she changed completely. She started blowing the money that she received from her husband death on expensive dates with this dude as well as trips and concerts. And I feel for her youngest daughter who is still in highschool because she also stopped buying essentials. Like food and water. She calls the cops on her daughter regularly and the daughter has resulted to going to my friends house who lives next door just to escape her mother. Me and my family have basically taken her in untill she turns 18 and can move in with her sister and her husband because now it sounds like D-bag is moving in with her mother. It has been a month since my friends death.

So I have a brother, let's call him Dipshit. He's worked very hard to earn that nick name over the last decade and a half, and I respect that he's earned it. Any way, Dipshit likes to think he's a genius, and specifically thinks he's so much smarter than the cops (we have a sister in law who tried to explain the wonders of overtime to him, but he seems to have failed to grasp the concept). Well it turns out that Dipshit had over 30k in fines and fees owed to his local toll roads, and so they impounded his work truck... I mean... those fees are a tax write off so you get the money back, but okay. So with his work truck impounded, he gets the bright idea to steal it back from the impound yard. And of course if this isn't bad enough, he recruits his wife into his idiotic scheme. Unsurprisingly, when the truck turns up missing, the very first place they look is in Dipshit's driveway. Lo and behold... they find the truck. So they charge him with commercial burglary. They also charge my sister in law, but she's not got a record, so she's just getting probation. Dipshit however, is getting 2 years. Oh, and the toll roads are in Southern California. All of this was entirely over use of toll roads Dipshit could have completely ignored.

There was a young man who went to our church, we'll call him Andy. Growing up, Andy was incredibly close with my family. He'd come over to my house all the time for dinner and boardgames. He was very fun and friendly and I truly saw him as the older brother I never had. But things slowly spiraled when he met a girl.
We'll call this girl Amy. Your first instinct might be that Amy was probably a really bad person, but she wasn't. She was also very friendly and respectful. She and Andy were fully convinced that they were in love with each other... despite the fact that the two if them were like fireworks and a lighter: Put them together and you know something's going to explode. They would fight constantly and were both incredibly toxic to each other. They constantly broke up and got back together. Nearly every friend and family member he had told Andy he had to cut ties with Amy for good, but he believed so strongly that he was in love with her that he wouldn't do it.
Long story short: The two of them had a child, Andy got arrested several times for terrifying charges (I want to avoid details as there are news articles about him and what he's done), he was in and out of prison for years cursing the names of everyone who tried to help him because I guess we didn't try hard enough... He's since changed his tune in that regard, but hearing about that hurt.
A couple years ago, my family started to get to know Amy a bit more. Again, she was a very respectful person, and my parents being the saints that they are offered to help her take care of and provide for her kid. Then one day, she just sent a message to my dad saying she didn't want to be in contact with us anymore. After everything Andy did, she wanted to cut ties to anyone attached to him. Seeing how he was close to our family, this included us. Didn't seem like the best decision in my eyes, but I could still see where she was coming from... last I heard, Amy was letting Andy stay at her place while on house arrest. She's letting him live in her house, but doesn't want to be involved with those close to him. You explain that one, because I sure as hell can't.
It's been years since I even saw him and truth be told, I don't know where he is now or how he's doing... and at this point, I don't even really care. I hate feeling the way I do because I once saw him like a brother. I hope he is turning/will turn his life around, but even if he does, I don't know if I could ever look at him the way I used to.

My grandmother. She’s not right in the head (never got a real diagnosis or treatment) and is an abusive and manipulative person. But I adored her as a kid and was thinking about reaching out and having her be in my life again. Then her sister (my great aunt) died. My family came to the funeral, the first family event we’d been to in years because my Dad loved his aunt and wanted to say goodbye. Well we found out as we were catching up with his cousins that the night before my grandma almost KNOCKED OVER THE CASKET. She was doing her usual attention seeking antics, “kissing her sister goodbye one last time” when she knocked the casket loose and it almost feel over. Fortunately some funeral home employees saved it but the cousins were pissed she almost took out their mom. They said after that they knew why we didn’t come around so often. And I just completely gave up on trying to have this woman in my life. Her example had motivated me to get mental health treatment though cause I do not want to be anything like her!

I don’t know about worst decision as I am writing about a family member from my adoptive family who are all full of questionable and downright terrible choices. But this is the one that comes to mind. My adoptive sister had two children at the time and was married to a lazy stoner guy. She had a landlord type job that allowed her to live on property so long as she was the manager. She was growing increasingly tired of her husbands lack of help around the house and constant pot usage to the point of being in a vegetative state. They were both equally bad in the relationship, both verbally abused eachother infront of their children, family and in public. Had no shame. Despite this she said she wanted a girl out of him and got pregnant again (this being the third child) not long after, she decides she wants a divorce. She also decides that if she getting rid of things she doesn’t like, she’s quitting her job which means losing the house. Her and her three kids move in with us (three bedroom house) meaning my adoptive mom moved into the garage and she and her kids lived in one room. It was hell. She got a job and since my other sister and I were minors, our mom forced my sister to watch her three kids day in and day out. This isn’t the worst mistake, although very questionable on her part. That part comes almost a year later, when she and her ex husband got back together (neither had improved and we’re just as toxic for eachother) and he moved in as well. Now it was eight people living in a three bedroom house, the fights only got worse and we were all miserable. They eventually moved out to our delight but only another year later, they moved back in when i moved out. Two thirty year olds with three kids still living at moms house. I hear it’s still just as miserable and toxic. I cut them all out of my life for separate reasons, and am much happier for it.

32:09 Terry first saw Kimberly at a wedding. She was across the bar shooting pool, and the Holy Spirit came down there, grabbed a beer, elbowed him and said, "Dude. You HAVE to get to know her." So the two talked and drank all night. They sat in Terry's car and watched the sunrise over Myrtle Beach, SC. And he looked at Kimberly and said, "Will you marry me??????"
And Kimberly laughed and laughed, because Terry was laughable. "I don't even know you," she pointed out.
"Well....... Can I have your phone number???"
    Gosh, he was adorable.
    "Okay."
2 months later, Terry drives from Charleston to Columbia to meet Kimberly's parents. Everyone gets along great.
"So, are you going to marry me or what???"
    "Hm..... Okay."
That was spring of 1989. They have been married for 29 years and I am the oldest of their 3 kids. It hasn't always been awesome; mental illness and loads of credit card debt nearly tore our family apart in the late 90's. But I've gotten to watch what was essentially a weekend fling turn into a real partnership and a happy family.
    I'm a very lucky little owl. :)

Sometimes when I feel depressed, and saying how my life sucks, as I'm working at McDonalds atm, I end up at this channel, just listening to it with a playlist and playing some games in the background. When I get depressed the most, I find theese stories where for example a family member sells the house under their family or something.
Makes me feel less like I'm just a piece of crap, and teaches me that. There is allways worse, just keep going foward, and try to learn from your and other's mistakes.
I'm not saying that I'm glad that other people have worse life than me. I'm saying that I'm glad that I can learn from mine and other's mistakes and end up not making any.
    Thanks for reading o/

1: alowing her diet obsessed daughter to cater to the reception. All the food was diet food that was tastless and barely edible.
The second was setting the date for November 5th. For all non British people, November 5th in Brighton is guy forks/ bonfire knight where we set off fireworks and burn an effigy of guy forks on a bonfire. The funeral was a CREAMATION. To this day, the whole family joke, it would have been cheaper and easier to dtick her on top of the bonfire instead of a funeral. This lady was not well liked, as you can tell. She verbally and physically abused her kids, their whole lives, and terrified the grandkids and great grandkids. She was lucky my grandmother was a soft touch and organised a funeral for her because no one else wanted to.

My mom dating a two time felon wife beater-which he was known for. She’s dumb as a box of rocks. I was furious when I heard, because this guy literally tried to hit his tiny ex wife with a car while drunk driving (all of his felonies occurred while drunk and he was a mean one). She left him for the abuse after having his twins. She was a little bitty woman, there’s no way she could have defended herself. I just shook my head in a rage that I couldn’t really contain and said “WHY would you do that???? You know exactly who and what he is. Why don’t you just write “beat me!” on your forehead now and get it over with???” She looked very embarrassed and just walked away. She dated him. He beat her. For awhile I tried to protect her and she would only leave him temporarily and then go back because he had “changed”. This is a lie stupid AF women tell themselves to justify weakly loving abusers and staying with them. No pity from me on that stupidity because it AFFECTS THE KIDS. Like seriously-shame on mothers who have a choice and ways to escape and stay with these azzholes because “love”. No honey, that isn’t love. Far from it. You love him, and the feeling isn’t returned. Real love does not abuse. His love bombing and gaslighting are control methods that work on you, that isn’t actual love. Anyway the inevitable happened. I got in the way and I got abused. Don’t worry, even as a teen girl I wasn’t the lay down and take it sort, oh no. I fought back with a vengeance and he did not come out unscathed. We’re talking punched in the face type fighting. And then I called the police on him and he went to jail. When she lied for him to get him out sooner, that was it for me. I was done. I left her to the life that she wanted of “love” which ended in him knocking all of her front teeth out of her head and almost strangling her to death. THEN she left him, finally realizing that he might actually kill her. The damage was done to our relationship. I spent my senior year couch surfing with friends who had understanding nice parents and I bounced from house to house to not wear out my welcome until graduation. I helped around the house to pay for my food/not being on the streets. Then my high school boyfriend arranged a place for us to live and we’ve been together ever since. Our life has been sweet. My mom never learned to make smarter decisions and her life is still basically clown shoes. She’s getting old, and she’s never had anything or anyone worth having. I take no pleasure in abusing her online but the truth is the truth regardless of it being cruel or an unpleasant truth. She was a beautiful woman with a taste for trash men who would only abuse or use her. There was no brain behind that beauty-just nothing else better inside of her that could have saved her from herself. Or saved me from all of her terrible life choices. You get this one short life and that’s how she chose to spend it. Screw that. (My dad was no better-he was basically the same in male form. I couldn’t depend on him for anything.)

All of my sister’s relationships have been the worst decisions. First was the shotgun wedding at 21, three kids later it took his brother to prove to her that he was cheating on her. She thought it funny when he made passes at me, including getting into bed with me. I was out of there in a flash, he spoke to her first telling her of the prank he pulled on me. Then it was an abusive cop. Then a lovely young man, ten years her junior, owned his own business but his crime was that he wanted to have his own kids, sister dumped him. Finally the worse one she married, a narcissistic creep who drove her children out of the home. The first one he tried to talk into unaliving herself. One by one they all ended up living with my parents.

OK, how to deal with a druggie and a dealer living in an apartment you have your name on is simple: call police, evict them, and get the apartment to change the locks, then look for someone respectable. To clarify they aren't not respectable for doing drugs or having an addiction, they are not respectable for not even really trying to get help before being evicted.

I had a class mate who had a little brother. He was a little snot, but not the worst person out there.
Anyway, half way through Secondary school, their family immigrates to the US and for a whie nothing else was heard. But one day i see the guy (lets call him R) while i am in the city and he looks like hell. Lost alot of weight, looked 20+ years older and it clear to see that he was not 100% there mentally.
A few days later i met up with another class mate who was closer to the girl and her family, and i told her i saw R. She got a weird look and told me everything.
Apparently R had not grown out from being a little snot and got into some serious trouble with the Police . Which resulted in him being arrested and eventually deported. Apparently while he was in jail, "Bad Things" happened to him and it messed with his head. Once he got out he got into the "white powder" to help him cope with what hapoened to him and that was that.
He lost his family, was homeless and lost his mind. I dont know where he is now and i didnt like him, but i really hope he got the help he needed.

For anyone who is an addict, please seek help. Drug and alcohol addiction is deadly. My mother was a wonderful woman, but was also a heroin addict. She died at 43 from drug related misadventure. She always swore she’d be careful to me, and would never OD. No one ever thinks it will be them. Addiction will kill you if you don’t seek help.

Took my niece over 4 months to get back to a healthy normal weight for her age.

WHY THE HELL would you get into a car with someone, ANYONE, who can't even find pants? If they are incapable of locating even a dirty pair of underwear, what makes them capable of driving? Even to the end of the road? Even to the end of the driveway? Like just call the nonemergency line and ask if someone can help them and take whatever punishment they deal because it won't be worse than being involved in a motor vehicle accident where someone might die. Like just take a taxi if you really HAVE TO be somewhere. that tire basically saved their life by bursting.

1 crazy uncle? No, no, I have 1 weirdly not crazy uncle and like 5 crazy uncles. the women inherit the crazy on my mom's side, and the men inherit it on my dad's side but one of my dad's sisters did marry a crazy guy too, and it all goes way back in the genes. My mom's mom's side has a history of "well, they weren't indigenous people, but they did just come from the woods one day. Probably fae tbh, but definitely witches." And my dad's dad's side is "well you see, it all started with these 2 brothers who jumped ship because they had to escape from France, they never said why. Their family motto became 'never fuck with a crazy man, because a crazy man gives no fucks'. They were very nice tho."

Ya, reward-driven detox doesn't work, really no habit-breaking or habit-forming method initiated by reward works long-term. The motivation must always come from within. Rewards are however acceptable for remaining off a bad habit or maintaining a new good habit. Like if you saved up all the money you would have spent on substance abuse after detoxing, then go on a sensible vacation (with no chance to do drugs) with all that money you saved up, then it improves your health and grants you a self-driven reward. This is difficult to do alone tho, as addiction takes a lot of good quality support to overcome, avoidance of things that trigger cravings, and the addition of enriching activities to replace the activity of substance abuse.

That in video comment on the sister story is putting me off. It comes off as saying that more people should be unforgiving to addicts or people who cheated them. While I agree that it's not right or meaningful to force people to forgive and help, there's also not the right course to support somebody else's emotional grudge. I won't want to help along petty actions, but also want people to have the space to have their feelings.
My comment to that story is dependent on who that OP does in the end. If they eventually forgive their sister, that's good. If they never do and never have contact again, that's fine and it makes sense.

Bro ass got saved from credit because the government hadnt gaven some disabled check and had to scream at someone over the phone. since he’s disable because of cronzes, he’s still able to work but always in pain making questionable decisions as a widow with 2 children, this is when i wish i had a mom who didn’t OD so I could have some order in my life, I witnessed her die when i was 5 when she was the only adult in the morning in the house.
