This was a beautiful story. I loved the footage of Collingwood and the surrounding towns. Thank you. ❤

My ancestors had a Mercantile in Collingwood in the 1800s. The town had several factories and a shipyard which made the town prosperous with a lot of well paying jobs. Then Mulroney was elected and within a few years most of it was gone.

I hadn't been to Collingwood in over 30 years when I got a call last year asking if I wanted to go up there to spend a week painting an empty house.
I turned it down at first, but then was convinced into going as they offered up free accomadation at the house.
I was so glad I went, living in Toronto is so stressful compared to Collingwood and the people are much more friendlier.

Wonderful. Thank you for sharing this bit of history. I will visit my library and see if I can't find it to borrow and read.🙂

That whole area is a great place to visit and/or live. I've been going there since the 50's. Wasaga Beach is an important area to visit. Also visit Tiny Township to the east. While in Thornbury, visit The Damn Pub.🍻🍹🍷🍺

The REAL Collingwood was diluted, dissolved and absorbed by the invasion of Yuppee Toronto Burghers in the 80's. Before that, the Private Ski Clubs owned the Hill's more or less exclusively, while the town was a vibrant mix of multi generations of middle and working class types until the Town's industrial base evaporated as a massive Condo blight hit. Goodbye shipyard hello Nail Salon's and Fern Bars. Aside from the Glass factory there now exists only "service sector" jobs with not enough locals willing to wait tables or cook. the "help" now is bused into town daily to fill the Coffee Shops and Fast Food outlets. What made Collingwood special and amazing has disappeared. Keep it.
