    I would recommend painters tape along the rim of the mug while applying the sealant! That way the extra texture is kept in a perfect line

    Just started to do coffee mugs with my cricut and came across this video for sealing. I don't like the idea of the strokes showing , so I have looked into airbrushing it. turns out you can airbrush this sealant, mixed with a very small amount of water to thin it. Airbrushing makes it mist on with no brushstrokes and seals like a charm from what i am told ( from a rocketry forum of all places...apparently it seals the outsides of home made rockets like a dream.) I'm off to buy some of this modge podge tomorrow so will report back how it goes in the airbrush.

    How about using it on photo coasters? I understand the dishwasher safe Mod Podge smudges photos. Can a regular Mod Podge be applied first to prevent the smudging and then covered with the dishwasher safe variety? Since tile photo coasters don't go in a dishwasher, but do need to be heat and water resistant (to hot mugs), would that dual process work?

    I have a lot of trouble getting the Mod Podge to go on smoothly. I’ve tried sponges and brushes, any tips?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  3 роки тому

      Brush a VERY THIN coat all over the mug using short strokes in the SAME direction using a soft and clean foam brush, leaving the area under the rim unsealed. For the smoothest finish, use as few brush strokes as possible, as it begins to set quickly. If you can brush it on with only one or two strokes, that is best. Let the mug dry an hour before adding a second coat. Repeat for a third layer.

      If you go over it with a sponge brayer after brushing it on it will get rid of the brush marks.

    Good morning Jennifer, HELP lol. I'm trying to print a photo (picture of my family). For some reason when I print on water decal transfer paper the ink does not dry and picture come out a bit distorted. Any suggestions? I'm a beginner and trying to make mugs.

    Hi Jennifer
    Thanks for your amazing tutorials.
    l have a problem, I started my small business few months ago
    I watched millions of youtube videos to make sure that I do the right thing.
    I sold personalized tumbler (stainless steel) and I use the smart vinyl cricut brand (the one that should be dishwasher safe)
    But the customers are complaining that the vinyl is getting off even with hand wash.
    I use alcohol before applying the viynl and leave it for 48 hours after It's done and I'm using a permenant cricut vinyl.
    Please I need your help
    I'm really sad and disappointed.
    Any advise will be appreciated
    Thanx alot

      There really is no vinyl that is dishwasher safe. The dishwasher safe mod Podge can help but I would recommend hand washing.

    How long does it take for mod podge to cure on this type of project if you only used one coat of mod podge?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  Рік тому +1

      It depends on how thick the layer is. I prefer not to put anything on the permanent vinyl on the mugs and just hand wash them but this is a process that people were wanting to know how to do.

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  3 роки тому

      It is not microwave safe if you use vinyl. Infusible Ink is dishwasher and microwave safe.

      You can use the same method but you do not need to use mod podge on the mug. You can just hand wash it.

    I tried to apply as thin layers as possible with my foam brush but I still have some strokes 😔 Is it possible for these streaks to lessen in appearance during the 28 days it takes to cure?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  3 роки тому +1

      Possibly but if you don't mind hand washing them I think it is better to not put anything on them at all. 😊

      Permanent vinyl may not last a lifetime but you can extend the life of it by hand washing only. Do not let it soak in water and do not use in the microwave for safety reasons.

    Can I use regular gloss mod podge on a mug ? I cant find the dishwasher safe

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  2 роки тому

      I would not recommend it. You do not need to put anything over the permanent vinyl. I do not use anything on my personal mugs. It will last if you hand wash it and do not use it in the microwave of course.

    Do the brush strokes show when dried?

    • @JenniferMaker
      @JenniferMaker  3 роки тому +1

      It looks streakier when it's wet, and is less noticeable when it dries. The Mod Podge is also best used on light colored mugs because the brush strokes will be less visible than on a dark colored mug. If you follow Step 5, on our blog post, here, you will lessen the chances of having those strokes showing! 😊
