アメリカ格闘技大会を舞台とした、格闘アクションゲーム「ストリートスマート」。主人公は空手家とプロレスラーの2人が登場するが、それぞれの持ち技がまったく異なっているのが特徴。操作は8方向レバーでキャラクターの移動、ボタンは、パンチ、キック、ジャンプにそれぞれ使用する。また、2人プレイ時は、協力して相手を倒すことになる。しかし、結局その後は対戦プレイとなり、そこで真の勝者を決定することになる。ゲーム性やキャラクターの動きなどは今一歩で、作品としての完成度は決して高いものではない。

You begin by choosing one of 2 fighters (either a blond guy, or a dark haired guy in karate gear). Then you are whisked away to one of many cities on the map to have a battle. The opponents are tough, but simple. This game has no special moves (and has only punch, kick, and jump buttons), and all characters have insanely high energy. So you pretty much just wail away at each other with punches and kicks until someone falls down. An ambulance will show up to haul away your defeated opponent, and a girl in the audience will come out to congratulate you

Street Smart was released in August 1989.
Street Smart was SNK's answer to the original "Street Fighter" game made by Capcom.
This game could have been a hit (there were almost no fighting games on the market at the time), but they made one fatal mistake. That mistake was making the game co-operative in 2-Player mode. Instead of battling each other, a second enemy would spawn, and the players would work together against both of them. That completely took all the fun and excitement out of playing this game in 2-Player mode. "Street Fighter II - The World Warrior" was released about a year later, and most Street Smart games were quickly converted into them.
Some gamers think that the Player 1 character looks like a young Takuma Sakazaki, who'd later be seen in the "Art of Fighting" and "King of Fighters" series. So far, SNK has never officially confirmed if this is so.
The music of the first stage of Street Smart was recycled later in "Fatal Fury - King of Fighters" in a 2-Player battle.

this was my ultimate game as a kid. it embodied everything i loved. fighting and girls. you always fought for the girl back in those days.
SNK always delivered the best music soundtracks.

"Designer: Sick Of" I have a feeling he quit after this game was done.
SNK should really consider making Street Smart again, with brand new game engines but an updated package. I don't see why this can't happen to be the next big thing.
Gamers who grew up to like fighting games have missed what was popular and I think with good business strategy and great character design, Street Smart can make a great comeback.
I mean, Capcom has done it before to Final Fight as well, haven't they? If only SNK could make it less like KOF.
The closest thing we got as a Street Smart II was Aggressors of Dark Kombat.
I played this as a kid and thought it was sf1 until i saw sf1 lol. I always remembered the ambulance and just found this game again after 35 years 😂
I remember beating this game easily. All you had to do was connect with a kick, turn away from the baddie, kick, then turn back towards them and repeat.
Always loved the soundtrack of this game!
Couple of the songs sound like prototype versions of Michael Max and Duck King's themes from Fatal Fury.

For this game, that is actually your best strategy. This game so cheap not only with the AI and the hit Boxes, unless their is a second player, You don't have the option of entering the Grudge match for replenishing your health, so what ever little health you had from the last fight, you start with in the match.

プレイから30年以上も経って初めて知った新事実‼このゲームでプレイヤーキャラに性能差があったとは教えていただくまで知りませんでした。
因みに2Pキャラは現地のプロレスラーで、名前はジョン・シュナイダー。1Pは米国武者修行中の空手家ツトム・天野となります。
ある日突然有り金全てをスリ取られ、頼る者も無い異国で無職のホームレスに成り果てたツトムが、全米格闘技大会レッスルウォーズの優勝賞金100万ドル獲得を目指す！という、後のSFⅡのRYUの先駆け的な話だったと記憶してます。（ジョンの詳しい話は忘れた。確か腕試しとか言って地元のリアルヤンキー達の辻切りをしてたような気もする）

Aquí estoy de nuevo en 2023, jaja. Este es un juegazo, es de mis favoritos. Me encantaba pelear contra los personajes grandulones y esos sonidos explosivos con cada golpe, como golpeando rocas, jajaja muy satisfactorio. Recuerdo que había que recurrir a estrategias medias rastreras para poder ganar en este juego, porque si no, la máquina no tenia nada de indulgente y si te agarraba no te soltaba y cada golpe del enemigo te quita mucha vida. Grandes recuerdos.
Yo tuve la placa de ese juego en su momento, 😃 recaudaba bien , cuando snk aún usaba harware basado en el de moda como el m68000 y aún no se soñaba con neogeo, tenía musica muy clara , hasta el.maestro Roshi sale entre el público 😂

Éste juego no era de mis favoritos, me parecía un tanto sencillo. Y con respecto a la segunda parte de tu comentario, quizás sí eran un tanto misogino o machista, pero parte de la realidad es que la mayoría de los hombres "pelean" hasta la muerte incluso, para ganar mucho dinero y acceder a las mejores chicas, y algunas chicas (no todas) se desesperan por salir con los hombres famosos o influyentes, a algunas se les llama "botineras", "escort", "prostitutas VIP", como sea, lo cierto es que en nuestra juventud gastábamos hasta el último mango para divertirnos y no le buscábamos tanto mensaje subliminal. It’s not.
Why?
Because this is not the *King of Fighters* tournament.
It’s the *Champion Tag Match in USA* tournament which is basically the KOF of 1989 at the time of SNK’s history.
Both Street Smart and Street Fighter are the precursors behind Fatal Fury.
The two main Champions of this game should’ve been in KOF though.

De este rubio se inspiro Capcom para crear a Cody (Final Fight). El sonido de los golpes me recuerda a POW prisoners of War( SNK)
El otro luchador es Takuma (KOF) de joven.
No, los mismos creadores del juego dijieron que se inspiraron en Tom Cody de la película street of fire, si tiene hasta el nombre del personaje, la ropa y su navaja.
De hecho son muchas ideas no sólo de esa película

El punto es que este juego fue 1ero y es obvio el cody de la movie no es gringo( blanco) si, también el mismo dueño de capcom aceptó que se inspiró en otras ideas de los 80'
En innegable que este juego de igual manera, la diferencia que este gane no sobresalió
pero final fight es histórico
Cody fue inspirado en el personaje de Cody de la película calles de fuego, este juego claramente sirvió de inspiración para el videojuego fatal fury y art of fighting por qué la primera canción fue utilizada para los créditos cuando acabas el juego y el segundo jugador se perece mucho a Takuma pero no es el mismo personaje ya que en el kof 97 tienen un cameo en uno de los escenarios, tal vez el rubio sirvió de inspiración para Terry bogard.
Por si no lo sabías final fight en un principio fue pensada para ser la secuela de street fighter.

Este juego es sensacional, sólo que el que juega, lo hace extremadamente aburrido, repetitivo, y frustrante de ver, porque en sí los peleadores, cuando los enfrentabas de frente, te daban la golpiza de tu vida, y era mucho peor cuando eran dos jugadores, y mataban a uno, debias enfrentar, al rival de tu compañero, en conjunto con el tuyo, jamás vi que lo terminaran si la necesidad de "trabar" a los contrincantes, tal como lo hace este tipo.
