    I'm not going to lie, this barely seems a 'recipe' or a 'cocktail' but Anders is so damn entertaining that I'd probably watch him do it with every spirit on his shelf. I'm in the DC area and I've made a bunch of these in honor of the official cocktail. Very refreshing on hot days, and we get some.

      Diabetes really sucks and ruins a lot of things. In case you aren’t aware, alcohol converts to sugar in the body. You may want to have him check with his doctor, so he knows what he can and can’t do with diabetes.

    • @Petrosman
      @Petrosman 3 місяці тому +10

      @leeanderson7339 he is allowed small amounts of sugar, since insulin breaks down a lot of the sugar. He just needs to control his sugar intake, and alcohol is not as big of a problem like say hard carbs and sugars. And plus in a cocktail it's a relatively small amount of alcohol.

      My mum has diabetes too, so I’ve learnt to use erythritol (aka monkfruit) as a sugar substitute for my cocktails. Comes without the terrible detriments of aspartame and without the diarrhoea that comes with xylitol. The erythritol works in everything from daiquiris to tommy’s margarita’s to long islands. They have both white sugar and brown sugar variations. 0 calories from the sugar, whatever you consume will just be passed out. Never turned back!

    Massaging the lime won't magically produce more juice per lime. It just means that normally people don't extract all the juice out of a lime because not all the pulps are squished. It's an efficiency thing.

    This is what I usually drink at home but I do like it sweet. When I was a teenager I worked at an ice cream place that sold lime rickeys and raspberry lime rickeys every summer so I guess that's what I'm used to. I use liquid sucralose which works a lot better in that application than in coffee. I'm still waiting for it catch on in bars, I don't like explaining my order, even when it's this simple.

    Ten years ago it was relatively easy to get Genever gin here in south Florida. I’m told that winter residents from Quebec liked it. Now it’s been extirpated: ALL GIN MUST BE DRY GIN!
    Pretty much all other distilled liquors must have a flavor and sugar added, though. Like rum.

    Funny story about the lime "hat"- George Cassidy, the biggest bootlegger who sold to Congress and Senators during Prohibition wore an emerald green hat so the capitol police on his payroll would recognize him and allow him access. that's where we get the brand Green Hat Gin. It was once a local favorite, but after the pandemic, Green Hat sold to MGP and is no longer made in DC. One of the many things that's changed about the Chocolate City where I was born and raised, but that's not a story for this video. Love from the three stars and two bars, and a forever Southeast girl.

    In New England there is a homemade soft drink called a lime rickey that is basically limeade made with soda water, or if you are from Boston, there is the raspberry lime rickey made with lime juice, pureed, strained raspberry and soda. They are sweetened and of course in New England we have always thought that gin improves it no end.
