New recipe: I just made a créme de cacao and tried to evoke a Jaffa Cake in a coupe. I'm close; it's not perfect (someone improve upon this): 45ml bourbon, 30 créme de cacao, 15 triple sec, 3ds orange bitters, stirred and served up. It's my best attempt to date, but honestly, that recipe would be better on a big rock in a lowball as an Old Fashioned. Two variables I wanna tweak: shake with egg white, and vary the spirit. I wonder if a brandy or an Irish whiskey would play better
So the cocktail which actually won in 1967 is called the Mallorca Cocktail, created by Enrique Bastante. The rum to use is difficult to pinpoint today. It's essentially the original Pampero rum (now just an okay-ish to mediocre column still molasses rum range, with the company owned by Diageo). A unique thing of some Latin American rums back then is that they were created with cane syrup (or cane honey), which in turn is just reduced cane juice. This will make the rum much more distinctive and flavorful, with just a hint of a grassy bite. I think the best chance you have is to see if Diplomatico has any rums known to be made with a pot still component, as they use cane syrup for the pot still component. Otherwise, you could add an aged (6+ year) column still rum to Probitas so you could maybe approximate it. Proportions which were provided essentially translate to (sorry for only ml measurements, I'm not American): 10ml of Cinzano Dry (ah, the dark ages), Drambuie (much better than the current version) and Bols Crème de Banane (it was what it was), then 30ml rum (Estelar Pampero). You did correctly predict the glass to be used: a cocktail glass. Source: hba-net.gr/iba-winning-cocktails-1955-1969/ Lastly, remember that the IBA is very biased towards Europe, hence that could be a reason that the Saturn didn't win. But maybe not as well.
@@cyriltran1267 Agricole involves cane juice. Cane syrup is when you reduce the cane juice overtime. The flavor changes alongside the brix level (sugar content). This stands to reason that they will become different distillates. The key thing is that because molasses and cane juice became the industry standard, cane syrup stuff has mostly disappeared. Cane syrup rums also have a ridiculous flavor spectrum: Barbancourt 8 and Clairins are both made with cane syrup, but the first is easy going, while the second one is overwhelmingly funky.
This may be your best video ever. The bloopers were hilarious. Love that you did the 2nd drink. And love that you mixed a Manhattan to showcase your sponsor. Well done. Thank you.
I don’t know if anyone’s ever said this; but your use of UA-cam chapters is delightful! I only noticed it 2 videos ago. But the subtle flick from my iPhone in my hand times with the chime of your logo, and the reveal of the Saturn are such a small but delightful detail. Well done.
This one was especially fun to watch. I generally dislike gin but made a Saturn recently in order to use up a bottle. Was blown away by its deliciousness. It's a 10/10! Smuggler's Cove serves it up in a coupe which really compliments the bright flavors. Cheers!
Glad to see blooper reels again and a little longer video format! Been following since the beginning and the Anders from 2020, shines with a little more air time! Well done both!
Omg, I have a couple of my long-gone grandfather’s glasses that are shaped like that Viski Manhattan glass! Never knew that’s what they were, but it makes sense. Thanks!
I’m always so inspired by stories about the bartenders quite a time ago. How pleasing, attractive and communicating they were, that their nicknames are still remembered with warmth and affection nowadays?
Darlings, You knew I needed you…A Saturn! Brilliant! I so needed something OOTW (out of this world) and you have provided it. ~All gratitude. Love u guys
This drink is the whole reason why I made my own falernum. And orgeat. And Passion fruit syrup. Lately though I buy the Pitaya foods passion fruit pulp that come in cubes. I just add 4-5 cubes, rather than make it into syrup, to help cut down the sweetness. It's definitely a favorite. I also found the Port Light is a fantastic cocktail - Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Grenadine, and Passion Fruit.
This is a perfect example of the style of cocktail that comes together as its own unique flavor rather than a collection of distinct flavors that work together. Super refreshing and lightly funky from the falernum with a little bit of botanical gentleness. I love banana liqueur, but there’s no way this cocktail deserved to lose that competition.
Hi Anders…..what a perfect summer drink!👌👌👌 …I love the creativity you put forth for the “history of the drink”…felt like I was in science class again!🤣…and your garnish skills are on point!🤗🤗🤗🤗 Bonus cocktail was so nice!😁😁😁 Have a great weekend and “CHEERS!”🍹❤️
I've made this once, but it was served up. For the garnish I cut a lemon wheel before squeezing and ran a pairing knife to remove the lemon flesh. So it was a complete ring, with a cherry in the middle. It looked pretty cool, and was delicious. I like Earth too. If anyone is having separation issues and would like to prevent it, add ¼ tsp (1.2 ml) of Xantham Gum per cocktail.
Props to Oz for some excellent B-roll footage of this extraterrestrial cocktail! The winning cocktail of the '67 IBA competition sounds bizarre - thanks for making it too, Anders!
Hugely entertaining as always! Even the sponsor video had a cocktail, and your blooper reels are priceless. Cheers. Not going to make the Saturn though, I tend to get terrible brain freeze from slushies etc.
Just one of the risks that you have to take, love that. I really love you guys channel and now have a couple of your glasses. I like that you made the other cocktail. I am going to get some lemons so I can make one but I would love to see you guys do a video on the other cocktail in details. Just saying that you guys had a lot of fun making this weeks video and I look forward to each weeks videos.
The Saturn is in the top three drinks I make with Gin, along with the Bramble and Tom Collins. Never had it blended, but it's great over pebble or crushed ice. And that "piece of crap" mixing glass is from Mofado, and I know this because I bought it after seeing it on your channel lol.
I came here from the Enzoni video, and was like, "Why haven't I seen this one?!" I have no idea is the answer. I usually watch them all. I blame 'The Algorithm.'
Oh I love the Saturn. I found out that a higher proof gin works well in this, and since I have a navy strength one, I tried it a few months ago and it was really good.
Hubs made this for me! Used floral maple bitters for the falernum and grenadine for the passion fruit syrup...delicious, wish I could post a pic in the comments
I learned this a couple of years ago from The Educated Barfly, and I absolutely love it! He served it up, and that works really well. I will try making it this way for change. Also, it's so unfortunate Viski does not ship outside US. I really like their glassware!
Of my two favorite tiki bars in Phoenix, one serves it slushy style and the other does not. It’s one of my GF’s two go-tos so I usually get a couple sips whenever we go out.
wow, never seen it frozen, only know it up in a coupe or with crushed ice....also love the new garnish with the cherry in the middle, way better than just dropping long curly lemon strands on the surface.
Hey Anders, could you do a video about Italian amaro? The different types and flavor profiles, etc? Its kind of a daunting category and some bottles are pretty expensive, so i never really buy anything except campari. It would be nice to get it broken down like your gin and rum videos! Cheers from boston!
I am retracting my statement that an immersion blender doesn't work. Just had to add ice a little then blend and add more. I made this with Plantation Dark Rum because I only had a little gin left. Wonderful.
Hey Andre’s Great video. So many coincidences: 1-I just went to the space museum on Tuesday. Plus have seen the Saturn 5 in person. During this time I randomly found out that other members of my family watch you too! Love the funny history of cocktails + Gin is my now favorite. Used to be rum but ahhh we mature. Will have to start stocking more ingredients so That I can make this. Saturn sounds right - Hmmm note sure about the banana - thought for sure yall would hate it. 😅 Thanks for the links too. Off to buy some H&R glasses at Viski! 🎉 Have a great weekend
I use +/- 1.75x the ice in grams as the cocktail in mL w/ 1/4 tsp Xantham Gum per serving. More if there's a heavy pour of a base spirit, less if there's granulated sugar instead of syrup.
Might have to bring this one back after some balancing. Here's what I did: 1.5 oz rum (Probitas) 1 oz blanc vermouth (Dolin) 1/4 oz Drambuie 1/4 oz banana liqueur (Giffard)
I was not even awared this drink was usually done frozen, i've always had it served up (i've only had it at 1 bar, figures), but it's one of my favorite tiki.

Earth is also my favorite planet. It's where I keep all my stuff.
Great point
Earth's a dump
Maybe this is a Tick-y Friday?!
Spooon!
Earth has all the best bars...
The look on his face was amazing. He wanted it to taste bad to validate the Saturn so bad that the amazement of how good it was he could not hide

It looks like you describe Rhum Agricole ??

underrated comment
It’s strange that the recipe lists the method as shaker, and not a stir/mixing pitcher, right?
This may be your best video ever. The bloopers were hilarious. Love that you did the 2nd drink. And love that you mixed a Manhattan to showcase your sponsor. Well done. Thank you.
Managed to fit three cocktails in a one cocktail video, that’s awesome
Thank you for the bonus cocktail! Love that your curiosity led to you giving it a go.
Love being surprised! Could be really good with a little balancing - might have to revisit
@@AndersErickson Please revisit! Would love to see another experimentation video with how you're reasoning through the ratios and balancing.

I typically make a shaken Saturn instead of a frozen & blended one, but both are phenomenal. Glad you showcased one of my favorites!
This one was especially fun to watch. I generally dislike gin but made a Saturn recently in order to use up a bottle. Was blown away by its deliciousness. It's a 10/10! Smuggler's Cove serves it up in a coupe which really compliments the bright flavors. Cheers!
Fun fact: there is a Haynes repair manual for the Saturn V rocket, available on Amazon. Really cool book for the coffee table.
Glad to see blooper reels again and a little longer video format! Been following since the beginning and the Anders from 2020, shines with a little more air time! Well done both!
LOVE that you made the IBA winner as well. Great bonus there. More of that sort of thing.
It is such joy when you find a tiki recipe and realize you have all the ingredients! Thanks again for a great video and a great drink
I've always made Saturns with 3/4oz lemon juice. Balances out the sweetness!
Cheers to a Terrific Tiki Friday!
Happy weekend!
Literally made one of these last night! One of the first cocktails I ever had, and one of my favorites.
I like your style
Omg, I have a couple of my long-gone grandfather’s glasses that are shaped like that Viski Manhattan glass! Never knew that’s what they were, but it makes sense. Thanks!
Thanks for this one Anders. It's in my rotation now. Very refreshing on a summer day.
Saturn was my favorite planet a kid, too! (It's now my second favorite as well). To the bar!
Dude! Hats off to, I’m assuming, Az for all the killer edits and production in this week’s video!
Yup that was all Az! I'll pass along the compliment. Cheers
@AndersErickson So next week are we getting a deep dive into the first place cocktail then? Love that we got the bonus content on the back end!
This was a fun one. Bonus cocktail at the end that was “not crap.” 😀 And bloopers.
Just tried the Saturn and that is absolutely delicious. Thank you 🪐
One of my favorite drinks of all time.
I loved catching Oz cracking up in the background on this one. Love you guys and the channel. Sending good vibes from Kenosha!
The Saturn was fantastic.. but where did you get the glass?
I’m always so inspired by stories about the bartenders quite a time ago. How pleasing, attractive and communicating they were, that their nicknames are still remembered with warmth and affection nowadays?
Never disappointed by an anders video, by far my content creator and bartender. Cheers man
Darlings, You knew I needed you…A Saturn! Brilliant! I so needed something OOTW (out of this world) and you have provided it. ~All gratitude. Love u guys

Two cocktails for the price of one!!!! Love it
Love to see growth following talent, thank you for the educational and riveting tutorials and history context. Blessed be to you both! 🙏
Thanks so much. Cheers
Props to Oz for some excellent B-roll footage of this extraterrestrial cocktail! The winning cocktail of the '67 IBA competition sounds bizarre - thanks for making it too, Anders!
One of my favorite restaurants that is now sadly closed did a non-frozen version of the Saturn and I think about it all the time
Hugely entertaining as always! Even the sponsor video had a cocktail, and your blooper reels are priceless. Cheers. Not going to make the Saturn though, I tend to get terrible brain freeze from slushies etc.
That bit with saturn was hilarious and cinematic, well done. What royalty free piece of music was that?
Yummm! This beauty would be terrific around a beautiful pool in Maui!! Fabulous! I hope you both have a spectacular weekend!! Cheers Anders! 🙂
Thank you Anders 😀 Always looking for a nice gin cocktail
I love it when we get a bonus cocktail! 🎉
drinking my cocktail from my Erickson Coupe! Love it.

It was a glorious day in Southern California and I think this drink would be a fine addition to it.
Oh I love the Saturn. I found out that a higher proof gin works well in this, and since I have a navy strength one, I tried it a few months ago and it was really good.
This was great, so glad you made both!
Space music! What we never knew was missing!!!
This looks incredible! Now I i have to go buy ingredients. I think you might be my local liquor store's favorite person Anders
The Saturn is a dangerous drink. Quite delicious and incredibly easy to drink.
Hubs made this for me! Used floral maple bitters for the falernum and grenadine for the passion fruit syrup...delicious, wish I could post a pic in the comments
I tend to make my Saturns with passion fruit puree instead of syrup..I could see blending making the syrup more balanced.
I love this cocktail so much!
Love that you made the 'other' cocktail. But ya, ill take Saturn any day.
Hello from Greece!

Also, it's so unfortunate Viski does not ship outside US. I really like their glassware!
Not sure where you're located, but in Canada, I was able to order some Viski glasses from Amazon.
Happy Friday guys!! I still, want a mocktailvideo please
I need more bloopers at the end of videos! So funny!
I love hearing Az laughing her ass off at the (charming) pedantry.
Definitely one of my favourite drinks
Of my two favorite tiki bars in Phoenix, one serves it slushy style and the other does not. It’s one of my GF’s two go-tos so I usually get a couple sips whenever we go out.
another great history lesson! When I make the garnish I cut a thick slice of lime and cut out the flesh and skewer with the cherry.
The reaction to that second drink, 😂😂. May need a video all it's own?
I just made a saturn last weekend!
wow, never seen it frozen, only know it up in a coupe or with crushed ice....also love the new garnish with the cherry in the middle, way better than just dropping long curly lemon strands on the surface.
"this is not to scale"...funny stuff
Great drink! Along with the Royal Hawaiian and Fogcutter, proof that gin and Tiki are not strange bedfellows.

If you keep making Tiki drinks, I'm gonna need you to get Tiki glasses please and thank you
Love that I can just hear the laughing in the background 😂
To make you jealous, as a kid I got to see the X15 fly and land at Edwards AFB.
I am retracting my statement that an immersion blender doesn't work. Just had to add ice a little then blend and add more. I made this with Plantation Dark Rum because I only had a little gin left. Wonderful.

Love it. Perfect timing! Hope you give this recipe a try and enjoy the weekend!
Never hard a Saturn but have never had one frozen. It’s a great idea though going into the summer!
Highly recommend. Cheers
Favorite tiki drink hands down
I need to make one too! Will adding passoa in place of passionfruit juice make a big difference?
Thanks for the great video, and additional thanks for the bonus cocktail
This was great! Can we get a video of on contest winning cocktails Anders hasn't tried before? Would be cool to see the reactions like this one.

TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
I make False Idol’s play on the Saturn called the Hyperion. Instead of gin, use 50/50 Cachaça and Pisco .
Ooo can you recreate the drink you mentioned with drambuie
Might have to bring this one back after some balancing. Here's what I did:
1.5 oz rum (Probitas)
1 oz blanc vermouth (Dolin)
1/4 oz Drambuie
1/4 oz banana liqueur (Giffard)
I was not even awared this drink was usually done frozen, i've always had it served up (i've only had it at 1 bar, figures), but it's one of my favorite tiki.
The 1967 cocktail was a fun swerve at the end lol
To the bar! 🥰
I’m curious if I could swap Chinola in for the passionfruit syrup without throwing off the flavor badly?
Can you make a video about Kirkland branded liquors and which ones are worth it
Maybe a mallet and bag for crushed ice for merch? Logo on the bag, not sure how easy it would be to put on the mallet. ❤❤
Like it more in a chilled coupe.
What type of glass is that?
Have you tried adding 1/4 tsp xantham gum to your blended drinks?
Where can I get the glass you used?
I have the exact same mixing glass from amazon XD
