I really love your channel and am so glad I found it. I'm excited to find an actual upholsterer to help guide me on my little diy projects. I want my projects to look as professional as possible and there are a lot of make-do folks making videos about upholstery. Thank you so much!
I found your channel yesterday - so happy I did! Your video on upholstering the arm chair was very helpful and instructive! Can't wait to watch all of your other ones. I love that you use an old Singer machine - my mom had one, and I learned to sew using that! With a treadle-foot! Thanks for all of your great tips!
Hi! Your videos are so great! Thanks for posting them! I have a question about fastening the welting: I had always thought that double-welting was stapled onto the chair, hidden inside the channel between the welts. I am curious why you prefer hot glue for this? And is the glue durable enough for long-term wear?
Thank you for your comment! The staples can create a bumpy look to the welt, which is why I prefer hot glue. Yes, it generally lasts, but sometimes studs at the corners (or staples) are a good idea to reinforce it.
Hey there-- thank you so much for your site-- I have learned so much from you, thank you-- one question, some upholsterers suggest stapling after hot gluing when attaching double piping-- your thoughts?
I am SO happy I found you! :-)! Is there any chance you have a video on how to de-sag a (beloved older!!) leather-covered couch that LOOKS like it has three cushions but they are all actually attached to a bottom piece. Or at any rate to the couch below. The leather covering is fine, but the wood framing is starting to press against aging legs (LOL) We love this couch it just needs a little bit of foam and stuffing (at the leg end of the seat? probably entire cushion...) thanks!
Thank you for your fast reply! I think the chairs look amazing, and I am sure your client was thrilled with the outcome. I have a hand held staple gun, a hot glue gun that is smaller than yours (think of the size you might use for simple crafting) and a regulator that is smaller (the metal part is 4”). Do you think I should invest in tools like of yours to ensure my success or should I try to use what I have? As info, I have two chairs similar to the ones you did in this video that require double-welting, and I have three additional chairs that do not require welting. Please advise.
I think your tools will work just fine, except maybe the hot glue gun...make sure it’s the kind that gets really hot because it makes a difference for the permanency of the glue.
This may have already been mentioned, but I noticed you didn’t cut your piping fabric on the bias, do you not think it is necessary? Just curious, it would certainly save time and fabric not to cut on the bias in my opinion.
It definitely saves time and a lot of fabric not to. It hardly ever needs to be cut on the bias, but I have a video on bias piping in case you want to know when it can be done. (PS , it’s never NECESSARY).
What a helpful video! How do I determine how many feet (or yards) of the double piping trim that I need? Do I use a measuring tape to estimate the feet/yards and then add a few additional feet? Please advise. Thank you!!
Such a helpful video. Thank you. I'm binging a lot of your videos, glad I found your channel. What is the metal tool you're using to push the fabric into the corners & rubbing in-between the piping?
What kind of glue and glue gun do you use? And Tell me about your Singer machine please. You’re work is amazing but you make it look so easy and I know it isn’t.
Hola , saludándote , espero te encuentres muy bien . Me compré el pie de un canal para cordón y el de doble canal . La cinta la confecciono mucho mejor y queda muy bien . Hasta pronto tu amigo Javier 😁
OK Aimee, so now I need to learn how to use a sewing machine, fun. I think the double piping looks really great, but you must get a double shoe? I do have a daughter-in-law that is a very good seamstress so maybe she can make the piping. How do you make a single piping as that is what I will need for two chairs I plan to try re-upholster? I think I saw a video of how to attach it to the frame of a chair. Great video as usual, but you make it look so-o easy, 24 years of skill building helps I'm sure.
Thank you...it’s a high-heat hot glue gun. Possibly Arrow brand, cost about $30 at the hardware store. There are various tricks to getting extra glue off, depending on the type of fabric etc. A good vid idea, thanks!
How are you doing I’am sorry I’am in Illinois can You help me in the price of 6 cushions for outdoor chairs whit double piping thanks so much god bless you
@@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio Hi! In your experience, which type of projects would require bias-cut strips in order for the piping to look acceptable? Thank you!
- Cushions that curve at the back and are filled with down (no structure from foam) are a must on the bias. - Double piping glued as trim on very curved pieces, but that’s not always necessary, just a little easier. - Whenever you don’t feel like matching up an obvious pattern (end of the day on a Friday for example). Anything else is a waste of fabric in my experience.
Thanks so much for your help god bless you I am going to start working in this coming weekend in I think I am that’s supposed to say double piping send you a picture the piping is Up and down in I have to use 2 yards in which one
I’ve learned a lot about making videos the last few years! Unfortunately I can’t change the older ones, but at least my new ones are more professional. 😊 cheers!
I have been looking on UA-cam for this finishing method all day, and Of course it was you who showed me, thanks.
You’re the best teacher.

Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for the instructions! Very valuable information!
Excellent video and great technique. You make it look so simple but I'm ready to give it a shot now!
Good luck!
Fenomenal. You are talented. So nice to see the colour of the wood and a tastefully picked fabric. I want to work with you! Well done.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I’m doing a no-sew recover and have staples down the side of the back- any tips to hide the staples?
The chairs do look great! Thanks for this video!
Gosh, I always learn something new watching your vids.
OMG That is absolutely stunning! Love it! 👍😀 Your tutorials are always so easy to follow...
How pretty!! You make it look simple to do. Thank you for sharing your tricks of the trade. :)
Your videos are very enjoyable. Fabric is gorgeous.
I love learning from you. Thank you for the detailed explanation and your impeccable work! ❤You’re so talented & inspiring!
Thank you for the great information you share , I am learning so much. One quick question what size double welting foot do you use?
do you use a special glue for glue gun? Or just any glue stick.
Thank you for such a great video, I'm learning so much.
What size cording did you buy? 1/8"?
Stunning work! Thank you!

What is the best glue to use in glue gun for the application of double welt cord?
- TRUE Artisan ! ! ! Thanx 4 sharing.
You are a true craftsman, or craftlady!
This is a great video. Thanks for the great information. I feel like I can maybe tackle the couch I have to do.
Thank you, I’m glad it helped!

It will show a dent where you staple. Up to you how you want it to look in the end.
Where can I buy a double piping foot?

Really enjoy your style of vlog.

Yes, that’s correct. Thanks for watching!
Such a helpful video. Thank you. I'm binging a lot of your videos, glad I found your channel. What is the metal tool you're using to push the fabric into the corners & rubbing in-between the piping?
That’s a regulator. It’s a very important upholstery tool, with many uses! One day I will make a video on everything this little buddy does for me!
Love your work 💞, blessings from Glasgow X
So nice.... The double pipe really makes all the difference, doesn't it?
Love your videos. What kind of staple gun and glue gun do you use?
Links are in the description
Thanks for the valuable info.
2 years later. Always good to review.

Beautiful! Love the fabric those chairs would have looked even better if painted a dark Gray
that would have brought their antique value down to zero. Not every wood surface needs to be painted. Wood is good!
Wonderful job
I'm sorry but is there a special glue you use in your glue gun?
Just hot melt glue sticks. It’s the glue gun that matters - it has to get very hot. A crafting glue gun wouldn’t work as well.
What do you use to glue vinyl piping to the vinyl chair seat to cover the staples. These are stapled in a channel..
Love the double piping. Not sure of the diameter of the cord, was it a cotton product?
I found your answer in another reply.
Do you have a video to show how u repaired the seat bottom?
Not yet
Aimee what size of piping do you use?
5/32”
Is that a regular glue?
Hi Good video -- What glue and glue gun do you use? How do you remove any glue that you get on the fabric?
Thank you...it’s a high-heat hot glue gun. Possibly Arrow brand, cost about $30 at the hardware store. There are various tricks to getting extra glue off, depending on the type of fabric etc. A good vid idea, thanks!
Where do you purchase the stuff that goes inside the fabric to make the piping??
amzn.to/2RnomVu
You do beautiful work! Do you make slipcovers?
I can make slipcovers, I choose not to.
Nice job.
I have a singer 31-15. It looks like yours. I can't get mine to stop fast like yours though. How do you do it?
Every machine is different. You have to get used to how your machine works.
I love that fabric. Is it available somewhere to purchase? - Thanks, Jill
I think from Fabricville, quite a long time ago!
Is that a singer 111W155 sewing machine?
You doing a great job but that' chair some kind of weak like it needs to be reinforced I see it shaking a little bit as you move it
Where do I find a machine like yours? AND a double piping foot?!!
You could try Craigslist or Kijiji for used machines
How are you doing I’am sorry I’am in Illinois can You help me in the price of 6 cushions for outdoor chairs whit double piping thanks so much god bless you
why do you make the piping on the straight of the grain versus on the bias? Is there a reason? thx
Bias uses more fabric and is not necessary most of the time

Yes, but it’s important that it gets really hot. Don’t use a cheap one.

Hi what thickness cord did you use? X
Hi Luciana, it’s 5/32” welting cord
You sure are fun to learn from:)
You’re always looking beautiful.
wish you would of showed the way to go around arms
You are awesome 👍🏻
So are you 😊
You dont have to cut on the bias?
No, not usually.
Thank you, just what I needed to learn ! Maybe without the music ?
My first videos had music, my current ones do not.
@@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio Thank you, I didn't say that to be mean but your content and lovely voice are enough ! God bless x

How to upholster a round hocher
If someone doesn't sew, can he actually cover the cording with fabric by gluing?
I'm desperate.
U look beautiful.
No, but you can buy “gimp trim” at any fabric store. It looks outdated, but works.
Nice
No need for sewing twice. Place welt in the fabric and sew once.
Love your video I'm beanie
Thank you, Beans!

Good video but background music is annoying. What singer model do you use? Hums along.
