Joric, try pronouncing it the way the portuguese pronounce it - it will sound very different and there will be less misunderstanding if the foreigners asks direction with similar pronunciation :) keep up the great work thank you.

Though it will most likely go to Alcochete, on the south bank of the river Tejo, Santarem is still one of the options for the new airport. Something to keep in mind with regard to noise levels, real estate prices. Not to mention, the new, just announced, high speed train line to Porto, will pass close to Santarem.
