What's funny is that a man in Florida who had his cocaine stolen from his car did call the police to report the theft. There are also several instances where people called the police to complain about the quality of their crack. One woman in France even brought the crack she bought that day to the police station and asked them to test its potency. They did run a test on it--to confirm that it was cocaine, and when it came back positive, she was promptly arrested.

Some have called ID, some don't, but either way most scambaiters use virtual phone apps that let them spoof numbers and fake caller ID tags. So they can call back right after from a whole "new" phone.
