Hi, Jessie! Have been watching your videos for maybe a year, but commenting for the first time now. Watched this while having a cup of tea and got a little emotional.

I swear by San Marzano tomato. The Italian canning one. Prolific, had no diseases, does not fall off (I hate that), I've had zero split on me. Very few seeds mostly flesh + thin skinned. When it's cooked it it just turns to mush so good for pasta sauces and curry. Best tomato ever. Italians got it right.

@@JessieatPlot37 🤣 I’ll do my best! See if we can do a decent swapsie if there’s anything through the year you fancy trying. My hottest hitters for tomatoes are Abraham Lincoln, Gloria’s treat and purple heart throb. Audrey does 💜 throb too and I’ve sent her the other two. I’ll be documenting if year two growing them again is just as good now I’ve finally started my own channel too! 🍅

I had 2 tomatoe beds outside last year and they were amazing and more prolific than the poly and they weren’t covered they all just had a cane to support them and they grew very tall I was so impressed I made all our Tom sauce to last us through the winter and spring from these toms. I interplanted with herbs and basil

That mist! Such strange weather! I've read a few historical novels set in London recently, and it's apparent how much the river is at the centre of everything, being as it was the best way to get around or transport goods. But you still have the river as a big part of your life in London too I've noticed. I like seeing it in the videos so much.

I have a couple of rare Italian varieties that I'm growing this year, plus a couple of rare US ones. One of the Italian ones I already have THOUSANDS of seeds for, they're called Di Mola, let me know if you want seeds, the other is Oblungo di Fasano. The US ones are Cipolla's Pride (seeds available now), Wapsacinicon Peach, Mr Stripey.

I never thought that I'd see anyone as excited about tomatoes as I am, but there you are! I'm only growing 17 varieties this year. I have a garden about a quarter the size of your allotment and no polytunnel, otherwise.... and I really do need to grow some other veg. Plus I have 17 fruit treas in my back garden. I am growing a few that you don't have: Thorburn's Terracotta (orange with green inside), Paul Robeson, Indigo Purple, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Amish Paste, I'm especially excited about the Terracotta, as I grew it a couple of years ago and it overwintered. I live in Northern California, but the only other tomatoes I've ever had overwinter have been cherry tomatoes and this one is a mid-size slicer and really pretty.

Holding myself to a dozen varieties this year instead of my usual grow them all! approach. Focus this year is on mostly storage bc I’m only one person and even eating them fresh daily there’s always lids more than I can eat/use.
Focusing on growing a couple faves and then a bunch of Italian heirlooms that are good for canning and even a couple for fresh storage, yep!
I can say I’ve kept the reigns in but overall I’ll be starting over 300 diff kinds of plants from seed. New to me garden and keen to grow a lot of different things this year.

We were very lucky but all around in other areas especially rural there has been mass death and destruction. We always expect a big earthquake but not this. Basically our three rivers broke banks and became one. So many many animals drowned, farms decimated,, recovery of human bodies starting as waters recede.

Marmande are the best flavoursome beefsteak for us and san marzano and Roma for plumb sauce making toms. They were so prolific and all grew outside uncovered. The marmande was so delish roasted with basil and olive oil and garlic for breakfast and this was what I was waiting for in the summer to have my toms with basil on toast mmmmm yum👍I also grow sweet minions a midsized yellow which I can’t remember the name I have saved seeds and keep growing as it’s a lovely salad Tom. Ruby falls is delish too. I grew big mama and something heart last year but flavour was poor and was a bit pastey in texture I don’t like pastey toms. So I not very adventurous but I grow what we like and what we need. I made tons of salsa and tom sauce to last us and I also freeze Roma while I had bags of those. I havnt bought any tom sauce or tinned toms for 3 years now. Anyway looking forward to seeing all of yours grow. I don’t have space for more types as need to grow for preserving to help our self sufficiency if you know what I mean👍🙋🏻

I lay cardboard on grass in prep for planting. I lay it secure it with stones/brick etc, water it, it will shield from growing up, and plants will root right through it. That 2nd idea is brilliant Jess.

I have just come across a company called Plant World Seeds while looking for a variety called Corbarino. They did not have the variety I am looking for but they have 204 varieties from around the world. I bought another 6 to add to the 20 varieties already sown. I could not resist Indigo Blueberries and Dr Wyches Yellow which is a yellow beefsteak type.I might be tempted with the green sausage for next year. I was given a code SEEDS10 which may give 10% off. Really enjoy your vlog, keep up the good work.

We had -11 or some stupidness and beets, chard and some garlic and onions just went to mush, as did much of my precious Aloe Vera from a 20 plus year old baby given to me by Grampy. I just started digging the mush in rather than removing it. Hope that is okay.

I love mist and fog. I drove back from a local town under a skeleton tunnel of beech, there was snow on the road, totally unspoiled, misty fog, and sunshine up behind the fog. It was so remarkable. I'll bet in 10 minutes it was gone. The allotment is looking spectacular!! Onward! 😃😛

Sounds like you've got a good mix!
BUT, one the most unique tomato taste - almost like a berry fruity flavor is Barry's crazy cherry. Light yellow cherry with a pointy end in GIANT grape like clusters. Almost like a ground cherry without the tangy.
