- Comme chaque année depuis plus de 20 ans, le Somme Battlefield Pipe Band participe aux commémorations du débarquement de 1944 en Normandie. Il porte fièrement la bannière confiée par la NVA (Normandie Veterans Association).

2:04, light blue poncho and black beret between the piper and the man in the baseball cap.... My Grandad, landed in Arromanches 1944 and finished in Bremen in 1945. Gave armoured support to the 51st Highlanders and comes alive when he hears the pipes.... Amazing generation.

Not Le Somme but La Somme !!!
"LE" (ou "the" en anglais) Somme Battlefield Pipe Band, c'est le nom du pipe band, c'est masculin. Bien sûr, c'est une référence à la Somme (féminin), mais la Somme n'est qu'un complément, le sujet, c'est le pipe band, et en français on dit "UN" pipe band.
There was a soldier.
A Scottish soldier.
He went up to the wars but he forgot his drawers.
And that poor soldier cried
""Oh what canna do? For it seems to me, mah legs are turning blue"
It's a traditional Scottish song
I'm pretty sure I have lyrics correct.
Love frea Ireland 🇮🇪.
😄
I may b crucified for this but the drums frequently diminish the sound of pipe bands,
The bagpipes are actually the loudest instrument in the world. So not sure that i would agree with you on that one. It's not my experience of pipe bands.
Is this pipe band made up of entirely French people?
Tout à fait! All of them!
No weapons. Pipes and drums
....
What a pity the Scots regiment carried the Flag of St Andrew rather than the Union Flag which their fathers and grandfathers fought under. This sort of commemoration becomes a political stunt rather than a celebration of the defeat of fascism.
Up yer hole!
@@briancampbell7569 very silly
It is about the first world war and not the war against facism in WW2. My Grandfather fought at the Somme .
As Scottish soldiers they have the right to fly the flag of Scotland.
What's with the politics?
The only People in Scotland who object to the St.Andrews cross, are normally self proclaimed "loyalists".
Bizaare beliefs and attitudes.
Scots have been fighting under the Saltire for longer than England has been in existence.
Given that you managed to get the wrong world war, I'm assuming that you are one of the self proclaimed.
I hate these silly tribute bands. If you're not Army - get lost.
Guy - If you can supply a current UK MOD Pipe band for the British parade in Arromanches, I would be very grateful. However, these guys have been playing in Arromanches every year for the last 30 years, some of them are almost as old as the D-Day veterans and are veterans of other conflicts themselves. They are very good at what they do,and without them there would not be much of a parade. Do you attend any of these parades ? 100+ veterans attend most years, veterans of the D-Day Landings and the battles that followed. 2017, despite awful weather, the French Pipes and the Dutch Band played and the service went ahead, and there was a solid continuous standing ovation and applause as the bands and veterans marched out at the end of the parade. I can see several brave old gentlemen in the film who will not be parading in 2018...or ever again. I think that kindof puts your comment into a little bit of perspective. It would have been a shame for them not to have had music for their final parade don't you think ?
Many Army pipers start orr with civilian bands! So have a good grounding if they aspire to be military plpers. Now due to cut backs in the military many official parades could not take place if not for civilian bands substituting! Pipe major , John a
Anderson.
@@adriancox6822 well said Adrian, Grandad (Wally Fuller) loves hearing the band... He sent them all NVA patches for their kilts.... The parade wouldn't be the same without them, lovely group of people.
You get lost Guy.
Why? Do you think pipe bands only exist in the Army?
I'm sure if the Army provided one for the celebration, they would be made very welcome and likely have pride of place.
