Mia Morris - Go On, Get Away /original song/ Nashville Artist, Songwriter & Multi-instrumentalist

- Опубліковано 28 лис 2019
- I wrote and recorded, Go On, Get Away about 3 months ago and had been trying to decide when it might make sense to release a reggae song :) Every few months, I find myself in the middle of another week or two of listening to mostly reggae and every so often I write something during that time. This video was shot on the first take, on a windy day at a place called Printers Alley in downtown Nashville. I’ve played several clubs along Printers Alley and it’s one of the many cool music spots near Broadway.
The video is a direct nod to Bob Dylan’s, Subterranean Homesick Blues, which I first heard a cover of by The Lumineers live in concert. INXS came along and did the same thing with, Mediate and I’m sure there are many others. I have a lot more original songs than I have time to shoot videos for them so this seemed like a perfect solution. It seems to me that Bob invented the, “lyric video” along with much else in Rock and Folk music along the way.
I played every instrument in this recording and sang everything except the rap breakdown. I would tell you more about the guy who did that for me, (I assume it was a guy..) but OxsiR is all I know. There is a community area in Avid/ProTools where you can post what sort of musician or help you are looking for on a recording and ask for bids. It really is amazing what 50 bucks can get you sometimes… I wrote some lyrics and gave a brief description of the sound I was imagining and a day later, there was a track at the correct BPM for me to drop in. A little cutting and pasting and boom, I had my Ragga feature right where I wanted it - amazing :D
If you’re reading this far into a description of an original song, you probably already follow me on Spotify but just in case… I’ve been promoting Spotify recently as a place to stream my music. There are others like iTunes, Amazon music and Google play and believe me, I’m thrilled with anyone taking any interest at all in my music but Spotify has really been building influence in the music business lately. I’ve been writing and recording for myself and others all year and the songs are beginning to pile up. I’ve decided I’m going to release music every month for awhile regardless if I can find the time to shoot a video or not which is where streaming services come in. If you follow me on Spotify, you will get a notification when I release a new song and the service even has a free version. This is a link that will take you directly to my Spotify landing page if you want to learn more: open.spotify.com/artist/2H62q...
Liking, saving and especially, putting my songs into playlists all increase the chances of Spotify deciding to share my music with a much larger audience so your support can absolutely make the difference in my success. Thanks again to all of you that have responded to my request for support on that platform. I see all the streams, saves and downloads and I can see the supporters that I have are streaming a lot and I really, really appreciate it.
I’m 15 years old and I want to be a musician when I grow up. I try to play many instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 5 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.

Hello. That was very nice. I like the video description as well.
I'm always amazed when I watch your originals. You do (almost) everything and you're not stuck in one musical style. That's great.
What is great too, is that your Playlist grows up every month on Spotify, so it lasts a bit longer every time😊. Thank you. Bye

It was full of too many happy accidents not to go with it..
Love it Mia and cool video. Funny the people walking by wondering whats going on there.
I was very happy when I watched the playback about all the various accidents :)
This style of music never gets old it is uplifting and makes you want to move I love it ...I use to love Santana from in the late 1960's and early1970's I remember my brother had an 8 track tape of them and he played it all the time.
I never go very long without some reggae.
Inxs style music vid!!! Catchy tune. Keep up the great work.
I really appreciate you checking out some of my original stuff :)
I love your diversity and creativity. You're not just a great musician but you make awesome videos as well. I'm glad to see your dog was represented as well. I also wanted to say thanks for always responding to my comments. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I love it!!! I know the concept is simply and we see it from Bob Dylan to you several times but I love it amazing video !!! hugs , have an incedible family weekend and kiiling concerts on stage Mia!!! #StayPositive #KeepRocking #ILovePizza #Smile
:D quickest video shoot ever! Thanks Seb.
You can speed it up, or slow it down, but reggae sounds like reggae. No doubt about it, you got the beat (nod to the Go-Go's). Very catchy tune, and very danceable - like most reggae. I especially like the bass rhythm throughout. Nice tribute to Bob Dylan with the flash cards. One difference though - Dylan's lyrics are so fast and complicated, one needs flash cards to understand his words. My favorite line in Subterranean Homesick Blues is "You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows." In turbulent times like today (back then, it was the Vietnam War), common sense and gut feeling holds more truth than propaganda. I love everything you do - your originals, your covers, your vlogs, your written descriptions - and will continue to support you any way I can. Keep the creativity flowing. Greetings from an American living in Australia.
Greetings to you in Australia :) I got turned onto that Dylan song by the Lumineers but they do a pretty faithful version and the lyrics do go by fast!
I'm going to take this advice. Hehe
Cool song. Nice twist and turns. Keep it up Mia.
:/ thanks Matt
Great paper throwing. Great video keep up the hard work baby girl!!!
:D it was a fun one to make.. I've never shot a music video in 10 minutes.
Nice hook in this one Mia and I like the different beat and changes. Nice Reggae style and the different directions it goes. Nice .
Thanks for not minding that I like to wander with music.. I really appreciate it.
Love this soooo much...! 🤗🤗🤗
:) thanks man
Got you on Spotify, LOVE The reggae feel!
NICE - Thank you very much Brett!
Very good groove here. Love how well you do stepping into different genres.

Hey Lance - thanks!!
Another fabulous video Mia! With a great original song written by an up and coming song writing talent! Keep up the good work and the hard work Mia were all pulling for you young lady. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! 🍗
It's been a nice weekend and thank you. I hope yours was what you wanted as well :)
Even your reggae has a cool rock flare to it. I seriously love your originals. So much talent. For new artists, you are my favorite. Awesome song Mia
I'm really glad to hear you say that. Thanks for the support on my songs.
Wow Mia well worth the wait. I love how you took Dylan and INXS video and made it your own. Great song and a nice soulful vibe to it. I also liked how you shot the video with everyday people in it. Keep putting out the great music. I will do my part to promote it on Spotify and spreading the word in the Motor City/ Detroit Rock City. About the one and only queen of percussion. Mia Morris.
Thanks for all of that Erik. I really, really appreciate the support on the original stuff I've been working on :)
Great, Great song Mia
I love your writing and vocals. You are such an IMPRESSIVE Artist and young lady. Your future looks bright!
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Thanks for everything Dave.
Came over after seeing you on agt. You are amazing! Can't wait to see and hear more 👏👏👏
wow, this one takes me back - thank you so much for checking out some of my music!
Good stuff. Keep those originals coming!!!
happy to make that promise :) thank you.
WOW I love it Mia, the rhythm, lyrics,it's got soul ! NICE
Thanks for checking it out Art!
Yep. This can be your second single after the chart smashing hit (and my personal fave)"what made Mia famous". For the life of me I cant remember who did the cue card vid thing first. I thought it was Van Halen in the "right now" vid, bbbuuuttt I was mistaken. In any event, well done. You're getting better at a ridiculous pace and literally thousands of people are proud of you. I'm near the top of that list!!!🙄
Very Nooice :D I like the vibe of WMYF and this one, i like just cause it's a departure from most of what's happening in music. I've got a couple new ones that I feel like really belong on the same record with WMYF so hopefully, they will be something else you can enjoy when I get them released.
I love the reggae flavor of this song, you should consider doing an entire reggae album.
Man, thank you so much for hunting down several videos and especially for supporting my original songs!
Yes, Mia, you are getting better and better real quick at everything you do, so I keep forgetting that you are just 15. This is a very catchy, really cool and entertaining composition :)
Thanks for all the support and encouragement Neil. I'm really loving writing and recording right now.
This is AWESOME!! Gotta pop it on Spotify!!
Good Man - thank you for the streams.
Mia....
I have to comment again..
You are soo ingenious with the ideas and presentation on the ways you do YOUR SONGS also your covers. I'm willing to say on the Fly....You have such a great imagination that works soo well with all you do.
You always hit it out of the park. Every time I watch you I am very impressed. You can do it all with entertainment.
I nod my head quite often
thinking....your a genuine genius. 15 going on 35.
I love it all ! ♡♡♡☆☆.
I'm all 15 in just about everything.. but music is one thing I think more about so maybe... 19? :D
John Doe
Man when I seen Hey Nineteen show up, I thought that has to be I know who, I won't give it away.
John Doe
Hey, thanks John! The first time I heard them I loved that music! FYI, Mia does not always get these notifications. She and I discussed it in the past
She does not know why.
Have a great week.
@@davebeck8973 you're welcome of course Dave. I should probably not post links but sometimes just can't resist. Was crying this morning for having sold Can't Buy A Thrill can't tell you what I sold it for but let's just say that fun didn't last lol.
Great job Mia loved the song and video.
Thank you Joel!
Great Song! So glad you did the vid on the first take. I would have hated to gather up all those sheets and put them in order again, lol.
ha!! Now you're thinking.. I put little numbers on the back because I did practice a bit in the beginning of making the cards at my house to make sure I was spacing them out about right.
Another great song for that future album!
thanks Shane!
M A G N I F I C A N T !!! Music, video, attitude !!! 🐿 🐿 🐿 🐿
:D
The first line and I knew I was gonna add it to the playlist!
Please more more
nice - thank you Chris.
Great job Mia, I am a big Reggae fan. Saw Burning Spear and Black Uhuru live at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz back in the early 80's.
I've only been to one reggae show live but it was a perfect setting on the lawn on a warm night..
@@miamorrismusic That sounds like an ideal way to listen. I would love to hear a cover of 96 degrees in the shade by Third World. You should give it a listen and see what you think.
I'm ourt having breakfast and listening to your great song!
Such a catchy song that stays on your mind!
Studio recorded I take it.
Funny thing is, when I seen your papers flying around the first viewing, I thought you were using C.G.I That was amazing. ♡ always. Ok What Made you Famous just started I have to watch.
Have a wonderful weekend Mia.
:) just the wind...
Hey, Mia! It's exactly one year from this Video! 👏👏💙, Renato
Really good song. Very catchy. Well done.
Thank you!
Spotify mode with your reggae feel Mia. 👌
Thank you man! There has been an increase in the streaming lately and I think it's mostly folks like you going out of there way to do it. It's very kind of you.
@@miamorrismusic Go on, get away mode on spotify. Hehe
I love it! You are a very talented young lady. This one has possibilities! It's very danceable.
:) thank you Fred.
Okay awesome job. I really like how you don't sound like anyone else but at the same time you remind me of some of the old school stuff
thank you Kieth :) I like the old school stuff myself..
@@miamorrismusic ty again for the reply. I really enjoy your videos and trying to use you as a role model for my granddaughter. So please keep doing your videos and have a awesome holiday
Loved the subliminal promo - "Go on get away" "follow me on Spotify" - LMAO excellent! Nice touch. What's really excellent though, is your ability to maintain an organic approach to your creativity. Discreet use of tools and fx as intended; e.g., using the technology to grease the machine; not relying on it to make the creative engine run. Alt., CW, Rock, Contempo, and now Reggae. I think you're ready for that EP Mia!
I appreciate this comment and hope I can always find that middle area of creative, fun, skill and still be able to entertain.
I love this song and video!! Your the best Mia. I think you inspired Sina. She released a video today and she was playing drums and bass. Pretty cool.. Hope you had a great thanksgiving day Mia. 😋
Thanks for giving my originals your time. I know Sina has played other instruments from time to time. I think writing is fun but playing all the parts and actually making the recoding is.. It's very satisfying. I don't plan on ever not having that be a big part of what i do from week to week.
I always enjoy your originals
I really, really appreciate that.
I always say she is the next Carrie Underwood!!! Mia you are amazing!
thank you Jim!!!
Love it..and no..im not leaving..lol..great job..soooo good.
nice - thank you Clarence.
Good job Mia ,,, Amazing !!!
:) thanks Rafael!!
Like those island rhythms💓🎵Look forward to new Mia on Friday!
:D thanks for listening.
Discovered your work cpl months back while searching Fool In The Rain covers. Not a musician and really never fully appreciated drum work of great drummers until that moment. This Indy boomer has learned so much from your vids.
Thank you. And best of luck with your bright career.
Printers Alley maybe? I’ve navigated that street at some time I’m sure.
You are right on :) That's the north block of Printers Alley where some clubs open up to it. Cool little spot away from some of the neon. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my original stuff. I really, really appreciate that.
Awesome, creative 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks Daryl!
I bought this song on iTunes before you published the video! 😀
YOU are a good man! Seriously, thank you.
Really like it !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Kevin!
GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! 🙂Love it Mia! Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving...🦃
:) i had some fun - thanks.
Pretty cool you always do well.... I choked when de paper did the circle thing around you..... You even have power over natural forces...crazy...
that was a pretty cool little accident.. and on the only take!
Nice song. I enjoyed the video also. Nice and simple, but effective. I've been in that alley more than a couple of times and will be back again for sure. Be nice to see you perform in one of the clubs someday! I'm looking forward to more of your originals. Keep cranking them out. The info about the Avid/ProTools taking bids for recording help was very interesting. That's pretty cool and one of the reasons I enjoy following you here on UA-cam. I am currently a Slacker and Google music user, but seeing how important Spotify has become for artists, I have created an account and followed you there also.
Oh, and also, been meaning to tell you that your "Mia" logo is perfect!
I really appreciate that and thank you for giving your time to my original stuff. I started on Ableton and I'm a lot faster and more comfortable on that DAW but PT has some pretty interesting features if you can get past the initial learning. I've had to work more in PT here in Nashville when I'm getting tracks and sending them out to record for folks remotely around here. It seems to be the one. Thanks also for taking a look at Spotify. I'm guessing something will come along but right now, it's the industry gauge.
Nice! Love what you do Mia!
Thank you Jon - thanks for supporting the originals.
@@miamorrismusic Always! You really have an amazing talent. Keep up all the hard work you do. It will surely pay off for you. Take care! 😊
Mia: be proud on yourself ! Thank you (again) for this great song, lyrics and instrumental part ! There aren't that many multi instrumentalists who do all parts themselves including the songwriting and video making, you really are unique and very special ! I love this song: amazing bass and drums, multi voices and a very "Mia-style" kind of music. Please go on like this, I wish you lots of succes and stay awaiting for MORE Mia ! With love from The Netherlands. (And - thanks to you - I found Spotify and made myself a member. Wow, how great to discover all your music overthere ! Respect ! )
Thank yo so much for finding you way to me on spotify. I really, really appreciate your support and it's amazing to think you're hearing me in the Netherlands :D
Mia finally saw your last job ... congratulations! So good! Simplicity will make you BIG. The idea of the video is not new (I'm not sure) but it is very good, seals always fine, I like :) "simplicity is the hardest" .... go on Mia🎼 👻
I like the advice and agree with you. There is something compelling about, simple with a twist.
I really like this one, Mia♥️great groove, and the style of the video works so well with the tune!! Your vocals are in great form, strong and they sound so good with this one!! Looking forward to your next one🙂

Very creative video! I like the song too.
thanks for checking out some of my original stuff :)
Mia Morris - You are welcome. I have writen well over 100 songs, about half on my own, and the rest in collaboration with others. Creating music is an incredible experience and is one of the most gratifying things I've done in my life. It's a joy to hear the creativity people have, which is why I like to hear original music. It is especially enjoyable when the creating artist is a young and up and coming talent, like you. I like to analyze a song from every posdible angle, and your songs are very well written and performed. The music matches the mood of the lyrics, the feel is engaging and catchy, and your idea for using the plackards is unique and entertaining. I look forward to more videos of your originals and really enjoy getting to watch you develop as a writer, singer, and performer. Keep going! I'm a fan!
Fantastic new song, displaying how imaginative and expressive your talent is! You keep on coming up with amazingly bright material displaying a potential and a "maturity" far beyond your years.
Thank you so much for giving your time to my original efforts. I promise to keep doing all i can to get great.
@@miamorrismusic You're very welcome Mia! You're going to go very, very far--by the way, did you get a copy of my book "Phase" from Amazon?
