As much as I love Feat featuring vocals from Sam, as well as anything Bonnie plays or sings, i can’t help thinking, that on this track Sam and Bonnie were not recording together in a studio. Sam keeps partly singing Bonnie’s lines, and there don’t seem to be any interaction. Goes for Bonnie’s acoustic slide work as well - sorry to say! I don’t sense a mutual effort to make magic.
@@erikbjerre8553 I said nothing about the song, per se -- only that is nice seeing Bonnie coming back around to support Little Feat. Much as she did at the beginning of her career. I was not in the studio when this song was recorded, so cannot attest to your guess that Bonnie is overdubbed and didn't actually interact with Sam (or the band, I presume). But Bill told me at the end of May that it was nice to see and play with Bonnie again, which suggests she was in the studio. Beyond that, I have seen Sam sing this song with at least three different female vocalists, and this is pretty much how he does it ... all the time. It's also how he adds his voice to many other LF tracks. And lastly, here's what Bonnie said in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock: "Every Feat fan loves us some Sam," Raitt tells UCR. "I'm so glad he's now gotten a chance to step out front and center and put his spin on these wonderful blues songs. I loved singing 'Long Distance Call' with him, always one of my favorites - and Scott slayed on slide. I know you'll enjoy hanging out with us at Sam's Place!" Note that she also says it is Scott Sharrard playing slide, not her.
OK Scott, I rest my case! I appreciate that Mr Sharrad does the acoustic slide guitar, and Bonnie does the accompanying acoustic guitar, and I love her voice, but maybe what I don’t like is all the reverberation used here. To me it takes away the intimacy, and creates a distance between the musicians, and maybe led to me thinking, that this might have been a ‘constructed’ track. I don’t hear Bill, or is he playing the harp?Who plays the harp if he doesn’t? Apart from this ‘issue’ I am a huge Feat and Bonnie fan.
@@erikbjerre8553 We each have our own preferences for how a recording sounds and should sound. I respect your opinion and hear what you are saying, even if I do not agree with it. The harp player is Michael "Bull" LoBue ... currently the band's guitar tech and occasional performer. Bill does not play on this version of the song, so that is why you do not hear him. Here is a version of the song when performed at the Ryman Theater on June 22, 2022 (for a PBS documentary about the band). To log into this video, I had to have a password for PBS, so you might not be able to view it. If you can log in, the song starts a couple seconds before the 1:04.00 mark (transitioning from A Apolitical Blues). and features Bettye Lavette. Of course, the entire program is worth watching.
I saw Muddy Waters live back in the 70's. He was fantastic! Seen Bonnie Raitt live 3 or 4 times. She is wonderful! Sadly, I never got to see Little Feat live. waaahh!
@@cecilhayden585 Not many bands from the sixties and seventies who are still touring are the "same band." That said, subsequent iterations after Lowell have all been excellent and a joy to watch perform. The current lineup is stellar and has been rejuvenated ... there is a second new studio album almost in the can and ready for release at the end of this year or beginning of the next.
Waiting on my Vinyl of it to get here. Bonnie is back where she learned from......Feat ! I hear Lowell every time she plays slide. Happy for Sam to be featured on his singin` here ! He`s waited over 50 years for it.
If there was ever a concert in a paradise somewhere, Feat would be on the bill along with the Band, Van Morrison & Tom Petty. a crate of Bulldog Punk IPA and a big bag of weed oh and maybe my first real girlfriend in that short white dress she wore. At 74 all I can do now is dream.
Bonnie comes back around full circle to support Little Feat. Lowell must be smiling
Love, love, love this!

Been listening to Little Feat since 69' ATL, GA 12TH GATE. Bonnie at the Fox, played w LF.!!!
Perfect, Feat, Feat, Feat.😎🎸🎸🎸🎸
LOVE the “cover” of the album. Absolute retro Little Feat, and having 2 “sides” is a great throwback to the great days of actual albums.
Exactly! What’s on the menu tonight boys 🤣

I agree Mr Reid.
As with the last single, I just think the vocals are mixed too high. But that's my personal taste I guess.
Good point
I agree.
