Here trying to see what happened in my surgery from the notes in my chart. My throat is KILLING me today post surgery. Never had such a sore throat after a surgery.
Your provider may of had some difficulty placing the LMA and had to use some force or kept the cuff overinflated. The tissue in the throat is very delicate and fragile.
Is there any reason why LMA couldn't be used in a surgery? Any reason an endotracheal tube would be preferable or required? Is LMA only for short operations?
it could be used for short procedures and for low risk anestheic cases. but besides these, it could also be used in pre hospital settings and during cardiac arrest to achieve more secure airway with out endotracheal tube.
Unlike the ET tube, the LMA doesn't protect the airway from vomitus. Placing the LMA in the airway can also insufflate air into the esophagus and thereby the stomach, which can cause vomiting, especially in unfasted emergency surgeries. This is the major drawback of the LMA, it does not protect against the risk of aspiration.
Still commonly used. Wider use of devices such as the King airway limited by cost and availability as well as a few other factors. I practice mainly in the public sector, so I am not sure of the situation in private facilities
Thank you Ryan Reynolds.i didnt know, you are medical proffessional by day and deadpool by night.😀
