  • In the latest episode of our podcast, Aaron and I dive deep into the intricacies of finding purpose and significance in life. This journey is not just about identifying what drives us but also understanding how it shapes our resilience against life’s inevitable challenges. Our personal stories shed light on how we've managed to navigate the complexities of life with a sense of purpose and determination.
One of the most thought-provoking parts of our discussion revolves around nepotism and privilege. We explore how these elements have influenced our personal and professional lives. Aaron openly shares his experiences growing up in the shadow of success and how this proximity has both aided and challenged him in forging his own path.
We also talk about the impact of fame and influence within the Christian community, reflecting on the balance one must maintain between personal integrity and public persona.
Our conversation also touches on the psychological aspects of ambition and success. We discuss the thin line between needing and wanting to succeed, with Aaron recounting his fears of being forgotten and my reflections on the drive to make a meaningful difference in the world. I share my struggles with severe migraines and how they've impacted my work, emphasizing the importance of maintaining mental and emotional health even as we pursue our ambitious goals.
To wrap up, our talk underscores the importance of developing a 'must' in life-a compelling reason to strive for greatness. We outline the four pillars crucial for cultivating this must: mindset, motivation, momentum, and mentors. Surrounding oneself with driven, capable individuals can significantly elevate one’s aspirations and achievements.
This episode is more than just a conversation; it's an invitation to reflect on your own life's purpose and resilience. As we continue these discussions in our MindShift podcast, we hope to inspire and equip you to embrace your unique journey towards significance.

When Pastor McManus shared that his driving factor that he felt that he’s been running from his whole life was “Insignificance” … I felt that 🤯 I’ve never really taken the time to identify what word could sum up that driving factor in my life so perfectly, but that’s exactly it for me as well! I have no idea what my calling is career wise, but I know for a FACT that I’ve always felt insignificant compared to others and every ounce of my being has been focused on figuring out how to feel less insignificant than I always seem to feel.

45:19 "I'll never make enough money that Kim can't give away! That girl is a black hole of generosity." LOL!! Aaron about his Mom - Kim! Sounds like that's a phrase they've spoken before. Next level compassion and empathy. So thankful for her influence on you both!

37:09 Aaron always asking the questions to get the deets. Bob Weatherly (this is the second time I've heard Erwin speak this name) - thank God for godly men who speak words of truth to our souls. I am grateful for a man I never meant (Bob Weatherly), who helped influence a young Erwin into becoming the man who is shaping so very many, including me. Love you both.

“Christians can’t be trusted “ as a Christian hit me so hard with relief to hear. I’ve been so frustrated that the believers with Pharisee spirits aren’t talked about enough, aren’t brought to light enough. They have been the reason people fear me specifically (lgbtq)without knowing I’m a safe place, it feels like walking with leprosy. They have deterred me from the church at a young age, God pulled me back. And today they use the Bible to beat those with new rooting, it so vile last week I broke down crying bc I can only imagine how God feels and what he’s seen. What ignorant Christians did to the ancestors of my native friends burns my heart. So it’s true there are Christians that can’t be trusted.

I'm happy you mentioned Mariah's music. I've been a part of Mosaic for years yet had no idea that she had released her own music.

I am curious is AI wrote the episode notes? Doesn’t seem like you and the description are talking about the same closet 🤔

I was giving Aaron a chance until he said “Christians can’t be trusted.” Wow, on an Erwin MacManus channel. You’re so close Aaron, don’t give up. Try to see everyone as Jesus sees them. What is their background, their age, etc that helped create these opinions. The Church is made up of broken people like the world, but broken people that are learning about Jesus. Did Jesus have reason to distrust and be disappointed sometimes at his 12 chosen apostles and disciples? It seems Aaron is trying too hard to be in control, and not trusting the process and God. I recognize it because that has been me and is still me at times. But I’m not done yet!

So you’re done giving Aaron a chance?
Remember, try to see everyone as Jesus sees them.
What is their background, their age, etc. that helped create these opinions.
Don’t judge Aaron through your own journey. Be for him or against him. But this lukewarm “challenge” / “trying to teach” him is weeeeeirrrrrd energy.
It seems you’re trying too hard to be in control of how others journey with Jesus and process emotions.

Nope, but because I have limited time and there are so many other options … I’m sure you get it. He’s so close. I hope he continues to pursue Him and grow.

i would encourage you to explore the context and background leading up to it. I make big statements in the moment and always reserve the right to change my mind. (kind of like youre doing right now) Christian culture can't be trusted. I implore you to dig deeper into the statement, ask questions vs. labeling me definitively. :) also if youre not on the journey with us dont worry about it.
