Fire erupts on iconic Oceanside Pier | 6 p.m. update

- Fire crews successfully stopped the forward progress of a massive fire that erupted on the Oceanside Pier.
The City of Oceanside said the fire was reported at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday inside the vacant restaurant formerly known as Ruby's Diner. Fire crews arrived at the pier five minutes after the flames were reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard, CalFire, SDG&E and San Diego County firefighters are fighting the fire from the water and air.

If this is such an important structure or icon why was it vacant for over 20 years??!
3 years* and the answer is the extreme property tax of being on the pier + the structural renovation cost of the entire building for any business that wants to go in.

Interesting how they (CBS 8) can spend 10 minutes on a pier fire and not offer so much as a rudimentary guess as to the cause of the fire. 'Not great reporting.
0:24.. not true! lol The area has not been vacant since 2001, that's ridiculous. I've eaten at the Ruby's as late as 2017 and Ruby's was active till 2021. Ruby's shutdown because they couldn't survive the pandemic.

LOL, The entire 'iconic' pier has gone up in flames, and the Fire Chief says they train for that every year!
Love the Pier,,,,BUT BEFORE YOU PUT MONEY INTO IT,,,,BUILD HOMES AND SHELTERS AND MENTAL HEALTH CARE CENTERS FOR OUR FAMILIES THAT ARE HOMELESS IN OCEANSIDE, CA !!!!!
