Outstanding I was at J L B in the 70s alway cold wet and out of breath !!! Nothings changed much in 40 odd years .all the best to you and your good lady.
You remember how we would have mocked the RAF but were always glad when they arrived? Nice bit of history there. Are you getting over to Normandy this year for a wee tab? If so, let me know and we’ll get a beer/brew 👍🏼 Ian
@@LetsTab59-bd4fd While we all do commemorate 'Normandy', there will be plenty of other '80ths' this year, our town will be commemorating the 'Battle of the Pechoir'. As battles go, not that big, 8 French killed, 12 Germans killed, but as the French forces were Maquis and related to just about everyone that still lives here, it will be a big do for us.
We did an exercise once, flew out of Manston in German Helicopters upto Thetford Trg Area. Of course the budget being what it was we came back in 4 tonners
Back in May 92 I flew in as a private pilot to refuel before going on to RAF Larbruch in Germany. The airport was pretty deserted except for a few African registered airliners who I think were detained due to unpaid fees etc. Super long runway and should be used. No flying now, I'm grounded. (or is that Tabbed?)

Use to be a training camp for RAF firefighters in the 80’s, when we had a proper RAF.
Yeah I do remember them being there, Don't think it was long ago that they pulled out?
Great videos thank you 🎉🎉🎉
My second camp as a cadet back in the day was Manston, when then Air sea rescue helicopters were there. Great little video well done
Awesome thank you

You're right about that runway, I think it was even earmarked as an alternative landing site for the space shuttle in an emergency
