you're good at explaining and pointing out small things that really matter in that kind of an oldschool electro/techno music most of today's production lack these things and sound very plastic and boring so I hope more people - both producers and listeners - will notice the difference between just a banging maxed out track and an original interesting one after your breakdowns, so don't stop them 95-05 really was a golden age for electro giving us beautiful lessons of simplicity
I would LOVE to see a breakdown of Polymono Plexusgel. I've loved Drexciya for years, but actually coming at them from a guitar background, trying to understand the sound, particularly the chord progressions
This is really helping me with composition of similar tracks (although I’m using external instruments), I use Logic Pro but the UI is pretty familiar. Thanks man
I think it's pretty safe to say it was laid down live to stereo tape. I don't hear any obvious edits either. I don't think James Stinson or Gerald Donald ever talked about production specifics to anyone on record.
what equipment did they use? Like i'm really interested in how they laid their stuff down. You're saying they're playing live so are they using a sequencer or a modular synth or neither?
This track and black sea are absolute masterclass of improvised techno too bad this technique isn't really used anymore when producing tracks like these
Yes and no. If you want to go through specific tracks though then I give 1-on-1 lessons/talks where we can talk about whatever you want for an hour. Link to those are here: patreon.com/alexwilcox Let me know if you have any questions :)

You are right, they basicly set up the synth and played live
They always recorded live so that might be why the bars are a little off at times and unique.
Either that or some polyrhythm stuff :D
indeed
I've always thought that on certain tracks, you can totally hear they were just jamming. The whole album has soul because of it.

Bro this video is actually fire

🖤 e4e 🖤
Are you recreating all the sounds from scratch? that sea sound sounds just like the original
I'm not - making rough approximations so I can talk about arrangement
Do you do requests?
