I agree. Just like the drama QIN DYNASTY EPIC .. except for the age discrepancy with the actor being 40 playing a 15 yr old young prince to emperor, the acting of a mature cast and accurate historical events was a mind blower.
Unlike some other dramas where one partner sacrifices something dear to save the other and risk them being enemies but no one speaks of what actually happened and creates great misunderstandings, In this drama im happy that her mother went to explain why her daughter did so and let the other partner know of the sacrifice her daughter made.

I don't see anything wrong with Zitan waiting. If he left, he would be accepting his family committed a crime they were innocent of and the Xie family's bloodline would be ruined completely. He had to choose between justice and Love. His mother died in order to save him yet the empress still used Awu's marriage as leverage. Doesn't that mean that his mother died in vain? His family that is still alive needs him. If he runs away with Awu, what's to say the Wang siblings won't kill his family?? He had to consider all of this and still chose Awu. Unfortunately, he was too late.

I do not see her as a gem at all for either guy lol. The prince was always sensitive then heavily grieved over his family’s tragedy. She didn’t even give him the benefit of telling his relative why she was marrying the general. Before their misfortune she always revealed her concerns to him, but at this critical moment she chose to allow him to be crippled in pain. Then claim the sentiment him hating her is best for him. No letting him know the truth was better.

He wasn't weighing his options. Being in deep thought about all that happened to he and his mother and getting revenge caused him to forget the meeting. That's why they showed how one thought led up to another thought concluding with him remembering Awa's mother gave him a meeting time for he & Awa. Didn't you see his expression when he suddenly remembered. He freaked out That's how Chinese dramas are ..one misunderstanding after another.
I think this is a very unfair take of the situation. he was still grieving his mother's death with a full knowledge that her family had been the cause of the exile and destruction of his maternal family. knowing this, it is not easy for him at all to just selfishly leave with the love of his life. you say awu left her house without thinking twice but what do you expect her to think about. unlike him, she hadn't lost any family as a result of this whole situation except her freedom of marriage.

Rewatch this again and find clues of general song huai en (XQ' s bodyguard) fall in love with awu at first sight as well. He like and think about awu a lot already in this episode (so early). We all think that he's just cute and smart or really understand XQ's heart, we forget that those minor characters are also human beings, they love and hate. The third prince is late, so does huai en.
Prime minister and queen from Wang jia (family) are too ambitious... They want to keep all the power within their family. I feel bad for the queen sister though she looks innocent am sure it was the king that sold her out in marriage to the prime minister to strengthen his claim on the throne.
actually find Awu's mother too emotional, literally asking awu and 3rd prince to die by eloping. if they run away, both of them will be criminals for life. and Prime Minister(father) will surely find them. mum is acting like a teenager, while Awu is willing to sacrifice for greater good.
Well, both sides were young and naive, if they had known that their parents would not approve of their relationship they probably would've eloped earlier. Now everything is a mess, the so called 'love' can't save any of them.
