Feel the same exact about Robin Hobb! I started her works 2024 and I can not stop reading it 😂 like I don’t know what she puts into these but I’m obsessed! I am so attached to these characters. Keep going with the Fitz books!! The second trilogy on him is even better! (Tawny Man) I promise it’s worth it! I’m on the dragon keeper series right now and it’s slow but I don’t mind. Then I have the last fitz series left and I’m not ready 😭

For more Liveship I would recommend The Inheritance, a short story by Robin Hobb that takes place in Bingtown. It’s the titular short story in a collection called The Inheritance.

i did the exact same thing with the three body problem where i haven't read the third book, i was thinking the entire time "maybe i should reread so i can just finish it" but it was just sooo good i don't want to finish

Just like you, I read The Three Body Problem and The Dark Forest last year and was sooo scared to pick up the last one. Well, I’m reading Death’s End right now and am enjoying it so much! I did have to refresh my memory a bit but overall it was pretty easy to jump back into everything. 🌙

Omg I had forgotten that House of Flame and Shadow was this year hahaha, that was indeed SUCH a blast. And hell to the F yes for Lady of Darkness, that series is pure gold. Also can't wait to read Paradise 1 and These Blighted Stars after all your gushing.
My SFF favourites of 2024 were:
    1. Asunder by Kerstin Hall
    2. Obsidian: Revelation by Sienna Frost
    3. Hell For Hire by Rachel Aaron
    4. A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows
    5. Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff
    6. A Letter to the Luminous Deep by Sylvie Cathrall
    7. Riven Earth by Zammar Ahmer
    8. He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker Chan
    9. Lady of Embers by Melissa K. Roehrich
    10. The House of Sacrifice by Anna Smith Spark
Looking forward to the non-SFF faves!! 🥰

Brittany you have to read Death's End immediately! It is even better than the first two books in the series. It's super interesting and you can't even believe what happened in the first half. I'm not done with it yet but it's 5 stars and I gave 4 stars first two books!

I’m so glad you went back to Liveship! When you DNF’d it a couple years ago I was like nooooooo. Unpopular opinion but I also LOVED Rain Wild Chronicles. You can just skip to this 👀 but I’d start from Farseer again

My favourite Sci-fi/ Fantasy book this year is also the 3 Body Problem / The Dark Forest. It's phenomenal. I'm still reading The Dark Forest and progress is really slow but it's like you said you definitely need the brainpower to read this, one sentence at a time and one page at a time. Not an easy but a very enjoyable and mind-bending read! 🌛

It definitely gets better with book 2&3 in the Farseer Trilogy. 2 was my favorite, 3 was very good but not as good as 2. Then you get to the Tawny Man trilogy., and it is exceptionally better than the first trilogy. It is worth the time investment.

I loved liveship traders!! It changed my life too. Instantly my favourite series ever. Honestly I’d say the next trilogy, golden fool is my least favourite in the series but also better than a series that wasn’t robin hobb 😂 and it’s heartbreaking. Then dragon keepers is amazing, fun, multi perspective like Liveship! Not as good in some ways but honestly better in others! I love the dragons, they’re my favourite dragons of all time, and then the series concludes really well in fitz and the fool, a new main female perspective too! You just have to finish it ❤
Though now I live yearning for anything that compares 😭😭😭😂❤️

You NEED to read the Legacy series by Melissa Roehrich which is set in the same universe as Lady of Darkness but infinitely better written. Also considerably darker, but it’s an incredible arc and journey.

🌙 I also wait until January to do my top ten. I finished my number 2 literally on December 31st! A lot of great books on your list. The Live Ship Traders trilogy also altered my DNA 🫢 Unfortunately the Fitz books didn’t work for me, but I want to try the Rain Wild Chronicle one day.

I read the shakespearean versions of the Star Wars books in 24, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM! the audio is a MUST. they were just SO! FUN! I was constantly throwing out Star Wars quotes in ye olde shakespearean English and annoying people with it. you can totally picture the whole thing as a play in yer head. ugh, yes!

Royal Assassin is much better than Assassin's Apprentice. Book 3 is a bit divisive, though. But the second and third Fitz trilogies Tawny Man and Fitz and the Fool are on par with Liveship Traders for me.

one dark window. at the beginning I was like "this feels YA... ugh" and almost stopped. but bff said he felt the same and then went onto wondering if its his fav book of the year. so I pushed thru, and I thought it was great! 4.5! there was just a COUPLE TINY spots of YA feel, but I also wonder if it was just the narration that kinda gave it an edge of YA-ness...? cause overall it wasn't full of people making obviously terrible decisions or anything. and the romance is small enuf of a part that I almost think you could delete it and have the exact same story. almost. so if yer a romantasy person, maaaaybe it won't be enuf for you? its a great intro to fantasy tho! the world building isnt some huge 20 page chunk of a chapter where yer left thinking "am I supposed to be able to remember all this info about this world?!?!?!" and the magic system is simple and explained. and theres also tons of cute lil fairy tale vibing rhymes throughout! I loved them!
