Now, THAT'S what I call sailing!!!! I've only sailed liked that on one ocassion and that was as a passenger on a boat out of Lahaina on Maui. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. I grew up sailing that channel; you get winds like that several times a year. You were handling that powerful yacht expertly, hats off to ya! For those of you who are not sailors, you might want to know that even a small mistake in those conditions can cause catastrophic damage. Doing everything right will give you the time of your life.
Started sailing the West coast in a little sunfish at 7 years old. Nothing beats open water. Nothing. Big, beautiful rig handled expertly by her skipper.
I'd been out of sailing so long I had no idea J-boats were a thing. And since then I've checked out just about every size available, how they're designed, and dollar-for-dollar these J's have to be the fastest boats around. I'm blessed neither with money nor a crew, nor is the Columbia River the optimal venue for a J of any size over about 30 ft., otherwise I'd consider one
This is still the best downwind sailing movie out there
