Vale Tricia

Perth Zoo and the wider community mourn our beloved Asian Elephant, Tricia.
At 65-years-old, Tricia was one of the oldest elephants in the world, and while we knew the time to say goodbye was approaching, it’s still heart breaking.
Tricia was an icon of Western Australia. She was cheeky and loved sneaking up on people when she was out walking around the Zoo, and had everyone wrapped around her trunk!
Her impact on the millions of people who visited her over the years will certainly not be forgotten. Since her arrival at Perth Zoo in 1963, she has helped generations develop an appreciation for elephants and wildlife conservation.

As heartbreaking as it is to hear of her passing tonight, I can't begin to imagine how it must be hitting her keepers and support staff. I hope they have all the support they need at this difficult time, and I hope that our shared grief is at least some small comfort for them, as theirs is to us that have known and loved Tricia from afar.

I am full of tears that Tricia has passed away when I have a daughter one day I will name her Tricia to honour her all my love zoo keepers sorry for your loss. Hopefully I will be able to come to the zoo on Sunday to honour her with all my heart mum and I send our love for all the zoo keepers.
