So this is actually a really nice detail for the live action. We dont find out later in the series that Roger was actually very sick. He had a year at best. But. The anime and manga showed him as this healthy man in his forties. But in the live action he actually looks starved. Sickly. Also. Garp was never there for his execution in the anime and manga. In fact at this time he was busy helping Rogers wife Rouge hide her pregnancy long enough for her to give birth to Ace and then take him to where he would never be found. But him being there changes things. These two have fought for so long they were basically best friends. All of his enemies were there to watch him die. But garp? Garp wasnt there as a marine but as a friend giving his rival one last send off. It mustve broke his heart watching this man. This great man that he fought for years. Just die like this.
Yeah but garp in anime and manga was too damn carefree, in the show he's shown with so many anger issues, But i guess it's a good thing because the next time grap says "he's fighting two emperors, that's funny 🤣" it would make sense because he tried to warn luffy but he made his own choice
well if you did not know, Roger is infecter by a uncurable sickness so that is why he looks sick, that is why he took this death then leting some sickness take his life
i love this because everytime his death is shown in the anime, it's always different, meaning every person who told the story have their own version, this is one of those versions, basically like how legends are told

His execution is told from the eyes of those glorifying him. In the manga he looks like a mysterious, cool pirate, not sickly. And to depict him as larger than life and badass would have been a better introduction to Roger visually in the live action.
This is more disappointing than i thought it was looks like typical campy adaptation they should have made his speech, appearance and the scenario more epic, people should feel goosebumps. Thats what a hardcore one piece fan looks for.

I love that they gave Garp an updated look that is more fascist in its style. It really characterises the Marines a lot, just by his clothing.
It's the same look as in the manga. Garp had a darker suit in his early years
