I really love the Omashu history, is short and simple but it was represented in such a beautiful way with the drawn and katara's soothing voice that it surprise me every time 😌

@Killua zoldyck the water benders are mostly based off of native American cultures, so I think they are supposed to be native, but I think everyone in avatar is supposed to be Asian or native American

I definitely get what you're saying Imon in the discussion in the last portion of this video. It's a weird thing where people are bringing more attention to diversity, even though there was a lot in past shows esp kids media only it was not placed on a pedestal. It's great because people are becoming more intentional about including diversity. That being said my concern too, touching on what you said, is that people are othering it by bringing SO much attention to it to the point that it is being tokenized. It should be normalized to the point where you don't have to bring attention to it because guess what, in our world, diversity is the normal.
I agree. I want to see black people in movies like in space and futuristic movies where black people are nornally not seen, i want to see all races equally, but when they have an all white cast and just throw in a black person as a background character that annoys me, like its progress but still not all the way.

Aang was such a lovesick dork this episode! It was adorable but also a bit cringe watching him say all the wrong things to Katara lol
The backstory of how Omashu came to be was also really nice. Even more so when the Gaang was literally on their way there. It was nice learning about the city and remembering what Omashu was like...only then to see what has happened to it by the end!

@@KingFade52 there is a hump or not a learning curve but an adjustment period. you gotta watch one of the heavy episodes to feel how much the kid is trying to overcompensate for things that aren't his fault but that he feels responsible for. but the show could just rub some people the wrong way. the first few episodes didn't hook me. but I stuck it through. and at 10min ann episode you just sorta binge through them. so Idk if you're willing to give it another try. but man, that kids journey is a tough one. excuse my poor grammer. english is not my first language. and writing in english is so much more of a struggle. commas am I right? lol

This is the episode that got me into Avatar and is still one of my favorite episodes of the series. To this day, I stick lmao to this episode.

The four nations were inspired by different cultures in Asia! Like you noticed with the hanbok the Earth Kingdom is based of Korean culture, The water tribes are based off Inuit culture, the Fire Nation is based off of Japanese culture, and the air nomads are based off of Tibetan culture.

That’s incredible. And after seeing the show recently on Netflix, I can definitely see it. But also domestically, I view the Earth Kingdom as like Chicago or New York, because the further you go into the city, you see a rise in social classes.

It's actually just Chinese cultures in their clothes and such, but because all the surrounding countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Korean, Mongolia, etc.) sort of adapted some of the Chinese culture, and vice versa. It's like being in the U.S., you will have some Canadian, Cuban, or Hispanic cultures because they are right next door.
Btw... the 4 elements martial art movements are based off real martial arts in Japan... Like how Fire nation fire bending uses "Northern Xiaolin Monk Martial Art"

Generally, the Fire Nation is mostly Japan (mixed with southeast Asian Pacific Islander influences, but hey Japan is an island/archipelago in the Pacific so it's not that far off.) The Earth Kingdom is China. Air nomads are Tibetan monks/Buddhists. And the Water Tribes are Eskimos/Inuits.
When I was a kid interracial couples were rare...and in some states still illegal. I am so glad we have progressed so far.

I think that the feeling that racial diversity wasn't such a highlighted deal in old shows has a little to do with kids not making a big deal of it. But as we grow we compare it more to life and notice how race could make such a difference on a character's background
