THE GAS WORKS PARK
A rusted-out, former industrial plant looms large at the center of Seattle’s most unique park. Before it closed in 1956, a coal gasification center sat on this site, converting coal to synthetic gas. In 1975, the city transformed the abandoned eyesore into a 19-acre recreation center with a picnic area, a playground and bicycle paths. People sail and kayak in Lake Union, sunbathe on the grass, and gather in huge crowds to see concerts and watch the Fourth of July Fireworks. Gas Works Park has won national acclaim for being a model of industrial site conversion and ecological renewal. One caveat: swimming in the lake is prohibited, since the sediment still contains hazardous materials.
THE AURORA BRIDGE (officially called the George Washington Memorial Bridge) is a cantilever and truss bridge in Seattle, Washington, United States. It carries State Route 99 (Aurora Avenue North) over the west end of Seattle's Lake Union and connects Queen Anne and Fremont. The bridge is located just east of the Fremont Cut, which itself is spanned by the Fremont Bridge.
The Aurora Bridge is owned and operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation.[3] It is 2,945 ft (898 m) long, 70 ft (21 m) wide, and 167 ft (51 m) above the water.[3] The bridge was opened to traffic on February 22, 1932, the 200th anniversary of the birth of namesake George Washington. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The bridge has been the site of numerous fatal incidents over the years. It is a popular location for suicide jumpers and several reports have used the bridge as a case study in fields ranging from suicide prevention to the effects of pre-hospital care on trauma victims. In 1998, a bus driver was shot and killed while driving over the bridge, causing his bus to crash and resulting in the death of one of the passengers. In 2015, five people died and fifty were injured when an amphibious duck tour vehicle crashed into a charter bus on the bridge in an incident that also involved two smaller vehicles.
LAKE UNION is a freshwater lake located entirely within the city limits of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is a major part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, which carries fresh water from the much larger Lake Washington on the east to Puget Sound on the west. The easternmost point of the lake is the Ship Canal Bridge, which carries Interstate 5 over the eastern arm of the lake and separates Lake Union from Portage Bay. Lake Union is the namesake of the neighborhoods located on three of its shores: Eastlake, Westlake and South Lake Union. Notable destinations on the lake include Lake Union Park, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), and the Center for Wooden Boats on the southern shore and Gas Works Park on the northern shore.

This city seems so big that a lifetime would not be enough to explore all its corners. I like many of the places you showed. The harbor areas seem so peaceful and pleasant, I like the water surroundings, it's soothing. Great music in this episode at the begining, it fits perfectly! 😊

And that is why, many years ago, after having to serve in the military in San Diego--renowned for it's nice weather--I could not wait to get back to my Seattle home town!...It is the most interesting large city on the West Coast!

Thank you @travelrecorder7, you are so king. commenting, visiting and inviting someone else to join this channel, thank you so much. my friend.
From a legal, and safety standpoint...you should be walking, FACING the oncoming traffic, NOT walking With the traffic. Back in the 1970s, that rail separating the sidewalk from the traffic was not there!...I spent one summer, riding my 10sp bicycle, from N. Seattle to the S. Seattle business area, where my job was located. After a few months, I went back to driving a car...riding a bicycle was fun, but stressful on that bridge!
BTW...My mother-now 96yo-can remember walking across that Aurora Ave. Bridge, when it opened, in 1931...she was four years old!
it is protected for both side, I wasn't in risk at all, but you righ I should have walked facing the trafic and I did the wrong way. Thanks for the advice next time you will see that. I glad you remaind watching this videos. crossin on foot it is a little scary becouse the bridge moves, shakes with the trafic. but I got some fun and nice views for you guys, Thank you man, I was missing you.
wow, what a nice story. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Seattle-based folks, call this Lake, "Lake Union"...NOT Union Lake
Yeah it is, Union Lake and I know that, but is good to make mistake, and create a conversation about that. When I was writing I said myself it is wrong, but wikipedia put it that way, I am going to leave it Lake Union. Thank for paying attention.
