  • Here's RJ Howson's Epi Lucille with a new set of Lollar Imperials, Tone Pros Bridge, RMF Tone Kit, Master Volume (Series/Parallel), Master Tone(In/Out of Phase), Neck Volume (Coil tap), Bridge Volume (coil tap), and Curt Mangan Strings, and stainless steel frets. Killer!

    I'll 2nd what Rick said and add :
    1) Bigsby plus TonePros bridge sent the resonance thru the roof !
    2) The RMF tone circuit and wiring has given the guitar many tonal combinations (Single Coil, Out of Phase, etc) !
    3) Stainless Steel frets are awesome (wish all my guitars had em). Friction way down, bending easier, hands never tire
    4) This is def my #1 guitar to play live and I have absolutely no regrets (other than wishing the rest of my guitars had the same !)
    Awesome job Rick !

    The high end I think you hear might be the mic and not hearing it live, but that said Rick added a little more high end than most are used to via the RC circuit and this was literally one of the first times I played the guitar after the mods. I usually play it with the tone controls rolled back to 8 or so. I love having the high available though because I always have room to cut thru the mix a little more. I think "tone" is a very personal thing. The circuit could be tuned to your specs.

    Andrew,
    How ya doin? RJ took his Lucille on a recent Blues Cruise. When he returned he over to my place let me know how many compliments he received on his tone and playing from many of the top name players on the cruise. Thanks!

    @DEI305 Too true, probably a better explanation than 'bright', the mic compression doesn't help either,
    I can appreciate the clarity, i tend to crank up the treble and and dial back the mids, so i dig the sound.

    Usually i like the sound of the 335, but this one sound fairly bright, is it just me?

    @271189a ,
    I may have had the treble up on the amp. IMHO, there is less mid range "Mud" and far more clarity.
    Many thanks!

    The camera mic saturating doesn't really help in understanding... :(

    BTW: It's interesting how with a bit of tweaking U got the 'knockoff' sounding WAAAAY better than the 'authentic' GibKrap GTR =)) I pulled the same thing with a 'Kramer Special' SG/Viper ripoff. & not only does it SOUND more awesome, but LOOKS way cooler 2! Neat trick! =D

    @DEI305 U should take that thing 2 a music store sometime 4 some laughs. I brought my Korean 'low end piece of krap' into a twanger barn 2 get some locking tuners & the guy was going off insulting his customer's guitar, meanwhile it was obvious 2 him & N E 1 with a pair of eyes it was the nicest looking thing in the place (chrome & red - vampy). & sounds a treat 2 ! =D I mean really - Y pay $200 (300 after mods) when U can pay $2,000 4 something much worse! =))

    What kind of brain does it take 2 walk into a store, put on a pair of shorts like that & say "These really improve my appearance" =)) Makes about as much sense as changing your style of baseball cap 2 'dress up' LoL!!
