What I love about rap is that it’s a completely different way to use your voice. Instead of singing melodies like most other genres, rap uses the voice almost like a drum set. You enunciate and stress certain syllables to get this rhythmic flow. It’s fascinating and wildly enjoyable!
So glad you reacted to this song even though I’m from England this song hits hard for me as a white boy from a lower middle class area where every teen blasts hip-hop and god help you if you play mumble rap
One thing that I think gets missed more often than not is the choice of Eric and Erica, both names start with Es sure, that ties it into Em, but there's another layer so I'll just spell it out Am-eric-a, Am-erica.
I went down a Ren rabbit hole this morning and ended up here. As a newish Eninem fan, I thought this reaction video was fantastic. Really got a lot out of this, in addition to the recent history lesson and walk down political memory lane. I know I'm late to the party, but I appreciate you!
Same shit different day. When he started, it was just a few years after the PMRC hearings in congress over rock music, when Dee Snider and Frank Zappa (amongst others) totally destroyed their position on being able to censor and restrict what can and cannot go in music. So then having the same thing happen to him 15 years later, lead by some of the same people, in fact (Tipper Gore founded the PMRC), really is just ridiculous. Same thing with Prohibition in the 1920s. The 'proud and virtuous must stand and protect us from ourselves' because don't you know that we are all children and we need someone to tell us all what to do? Given that most of these groups are also strongly Christian/Protestant and believe that we are all incapable of making anything but the most base choices and can't be moral without having someone around to say 'do this or I'll spank you', it's unsurprising this keeps coming up every generation. Sorry for the rant, I just find that level of arrogance astoundingly vexing.
I love this song and honestly, it speaks more to me now that I'm older. Also realized where he picked the Eric and Erica names cuz I'm clearly SLOW!!!! Such a derp, Am ERIC A. Then again now Gangstas Paradise makes me cry now that I'm older too. I truly have realized that I never gave some of these songs enough credit.
My whole life the line after he says “I shoveled shit on my life” I thought he followed that with “& now I’m dumpin it on ‘em”like dumping it on the government. Thanks for clarifying for me Knox 😂
Knox finds all sorts of bars that fly over our heads, let's be honest. Then when we spin the track next time we hear every single piece of the puzzle. It's quality
I was in my 30s when I first heard this. I knew then he was a genius. I'm a forever fan. But I really love 60s and 70s music. Eminem is always on the list. You might be interested in the OG lyricist. From my profile pic I’m clearly white, plus I’m from the middle class suburbs and I was listening to hip hop a few years before Em was even on the scene. Em didn’t show or introduced me to hip hop but he totally help make me fall in love with hip hop. Much respect to the rap goat Em and the UA-cam reaction/breakdown music channel goat Knox!
I miss TRL!!! Lol.. How old are you?? I thought you were around 25-27.. but the way you are talking about how Eminem was 20+ years ago.. I loved the late 80’s -90’s.. We had NWA, Snoop, Tupac, Biggie.. East Coast vs West Coast.. What an amazing time to be alive!!!!!

Depression and anxiety among other health issues sucks knox thanks for the positive vibez
Eminem be making you a history teacher! Great reaction
America
Erica
Eric
America
That’s where the names come from(:
Yeessssss I've waited for this one man, keep up the great work Knox
Waiting for Till I Collpase. Long awaited one
I think even Knox still missed “Eric and Erica” being in the work “Am-erica”
He didn't missed it tho

Love the song in the beginning! Def going to listen to the full version
I was so fam. Glad to see you react to this. No one EVER reacts to this one... this song has so much to it.
I like how you're breaking this down knox. Kids these days need to understand the impact em ha dB on hip hop.
That is very nostalgic indeed! Can you take us on a journey through the entire Eminem Show? That would be dope!
I've been waiting for this breakdown
Ayyyy excited for this one. I know you're on the mend but I'm hoping you'll have the energy for another live sometime! Have a good weekend Knox!
Ayy the bars on off my chest are crazy, good job knox.
Great vids on many levels. I believe he says “I shoveled sh*t on my life and now I’m dumping it on them” rather than “jumping in on it”
I love how when the song dropped Knox completely lit up with joy. I did the same thing Knox. Goosebumps.
How about "the way I am"
My all time favorite song.
Do Kick Off or Greatest next please
White A M E R I C A = little ERIC, ERICA = AM ERIC A. EM's a genius bro 🤣
You should do stay wide awake from the relapse album, lyrics are crazy man, the beat even sounds like a heartbeat, GENIUS
Hope your feeling better Knox. We need you get well brotha
great breakdown of the song! really enjoyed seeing Eminem's older songs- very nostalgic for me too! :)
Crazy to think that this Eminem song relate so much to the world we live in today .
“Democracy of hypocrisy”
Top 3 eminem songs for sure. 1. The way I am 2. Cleaning out my closet 3. White America
The way I am is my top1 too!!
lose yourself, soldier, the way i am, sing for the moment, for me probably
More em show!!! Fire album
My boy Knox!! Just here sitting showing love! Oh and ERIC and ERICA are in the word AmERIC(A)! He's sick with it!
Ay good to see you over here bro! Much love as always
Bro how the fuck do you know all of this shit?? Definitely top reactor🔥🔥
I really don’t get tied of that intro... You really dropped some bombs 💣 like a Nagasaki Knox... 👊🏾👊🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥
My whole life the line after he says “I shoveled shit on my life” I thought he followed that with “& now I’m dumpin it on ‘em”like dumping it on the government. Thanks for clarifying for me Knox 😂
your reactions are the best thx for these breakdowns
Knox you should do a review/reaction/break down for 2014 forest hill drive
As a big eminem fan.i love your reactions.❤❤👍👍
Love your time period conscious take and breakdown. Have a sub.
My boy spittin fuckin bars man I love it keep it coming
Knox finds all sorts of bars that fly over our heads, let's be honest. Then when we spin the track next time we hear every single piece of the puzzle. It's quality
I was in my 30s when I first heard this. I knew then he was a genius. I'm a forever fan. But I really love 60s and 70s music. Eminem is always on the list. You might be interested in the OG lyricist. I recommend Bob Dylans' Subterranean Homesick Blues from 1965. You might enjoy his 2020 hit Murder Most Foul.
Knox: yes I do make words rhyme with my mouth. I was dying when he said that idk why tho
Notification gang, this about to be a good one
I miss TRL!!! Lol.. How old are you?? I thought you were around 25-27.. but the way you are talking about how Eminem was 20+ years ago.. I loved the late 80’s -90’s.. We had NWA, Snoop, Tupac, Biggie.. East Coast vs West Coast.. What an amazing time to be alive!!!!!
Damn the intro song is so fucking good ! My first time being blown away by one of those
