My intro to the Ace Combat series was Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies. I played it ALL THE WAY THROUGH, in one sitting the night I got it. I teared up and turned about 12 aileron rolls in my F-14D Tomcat as Thunderhead said "All aircraft, follow Mobius One!" And Agnus Dei played. Then....I got Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Ohhhh, gosh, guys. What a game (still my favorite of all time). I openly sobbed twice as I played that one all the way through, as well. First when we lost Chopper over November City (what a hero!) and second when we lost the Kestrel in the Northern Ocean (and her crew saluted her as she went down - that epic music, woeful and forlorn...oof, it hit hard), especially considering I was a sailor in the Navy myself. Now, I never got to play Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (since it was exclusive to Xbox); but "Liberation of Gracemeria" is tied for first with "Unsung War" for me. Incredible. Life anthems. Not for nothing, by the way. This kid, Lucas Ricciotti has a way of making what is already epic even more so. My favorite "re-do" by him is "Zero" from Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. What an INCREDIBLE use of orchestra (in particular the addition of epic brass in the reprise). Lucas...we aces (and nuggets that come after us), salute you, sir!
