Part of having a travel and tourism UA-cam channel is that you get to explore new places and this walking tour of Marazion is no different as I'd never been before. This Cornwall seaside tourist destination is a bit of a strange one however..
A place that seems to be best known for nearby St Michaels Mount, Marazion itself seems to get overlooked and forgotten. There's not even that much online about Marazion to help you research the place!
There isn't that much here with a main street that winds it's way through Marazion Town Centre and along the seafront and with the focus all inevitably on the amazing island of St Michael's Mount out at sea.
The name Marazion has erroneously been referred to as Market Jew but is believed to be derived from the old Cornish Marghaisewe, meaning Thursday market. The quaint town claims to be one of the oldest in Britain. It was known as Ictis by the Romans.
In fact, its name is derived from the important fairs and markets that were held here - the earliest recorded was in 1070. Marazion had two significant markets: Marghas Byghan (Small Market) and Marghas Yow or Jew (Thursday Market).
The seafront is popular with surfers and thee beach itself is a great place to spend time on during your Cornwall holiday.
With the best views of St Michael's Mount and out to Mount's Bay - one of the most beautiful bays in the UK - Marazion beach is not to be missed. ... The beach is long and sandy, and there's a small harbour nearby to enjoy a bite to eat or an ice cream.
But there's no denying that Marazion is a sleepy town near Penzance that is best known and probably only known for the nearby St Michaels Mount (That you should definitely visit!)

No idea when I'll next get back, but thanks for this wonderful reminder, though I wished you'd started a bit further up. Namely, The Fire Engine. Had many a great night there.

Spent a week in Marazion about five years ago. Lovely place and has one of the best pastie shops in Cornwall. Loved to go down to the beach in the evening to watch the sailing club playing about in the water.

The village of Marazion seems to be lovely too. Again, I love those window boxes full of bright colors. I hope they do the same in the winter months to brighten everyone's day. I don't know how those bus drivers drive down those windy narrow streets of yours. I've been on a bus or two before, there in England, and had to applaud the driver when we made it through unscathed. I'm a huge fan of magnificent
medieval castles! I can't wait for our next walk! :)

We stayed in a holiday cottage just there where you started the walk. Amazing view from the windows every morning. One of the best holidays we ever had. Easy to go by bus to St Ives or Penzance from there, too. Thanks for uploading, we will definitely come back as soon as possible.
I stayed there last year with my sister. Really lovely place. We loved just wandering around. We could have arranged a trip to the Mount but there was a waiting list. Went on the bus into Penzance instead. I would definitely recommend a stay or a day trip to Marazion. There was a big storm one night, quite spectacular as our B&B overlooked the island.

Thank you, it’s been a few years since I made it down to Marazion…I’ve had a few lovely Pina Coladas in The Godolphin and some delicious meals in the marazion hotel.
It's a lovely place, just a shame it was raining. Just spent our summer holiday in Cornwall and visited St Michael's Mount and did some watercolour paintings on my channel 👍 Thanks for sharing
Beautiful bay looking out to St Michael's Mount. Its less touristy so would suit those who don't like it too busy. That bus was way too big for the street! Some beautiful buildings and cottages. Would definitely visit.

I really enjoyed this video. Thank you! I have been to Marazion a couple of times. And to St. Michael's Mount. Both by foot and by boat. Special place. Have also walked the St. Michael's Way across the West Penwith from there to St. Ives. Will probably visit again next year on a walk along the way around the path of Lizard Peninsula :) Fingers crossed :)

@@GimbalWalkTV I have happy memories from Marazion and also many other places in Cornwall. I have walked quite long distance along the coastal path and will continue this during the summers ahead. I will watch the St. Michael Mount video for sure. Thank you :)
The Godolphin pub/restaurant can be seen at 8:36. This used to be a lovely, reasonably priced pub/restaurant that did an amazing carvery. But a few years ago, they decided to 'upgrade' and I haven't been back since. They charge inflated prices for meals with posh names, that aren't very special at all. It's worth stopping there for a morning coffee and sitting outside to admire the view to the mount, but they've lost a lot of customers since the costly 'improvements' that they made. It's a real shame, as they only needed to give the place a lick of paint and keep the same menus, as it used to be full nearly every evening.

This is our first time in Cornwall and for the uninitiated like ourselves some of the lanes like the one going down to the lizard and a couple of others are really scary

The worst ones for me are the country roads too where you can only fit one car!
After watching many of your videos I can see why some towns are local traffic only. Not sure if it's your camera or the sidewalks are narrow, streets narrow & not many front yards. Makes the window boxes & hanging pop with floral beauty 😍. Thank you for another good 🚶♀️ 🚶♂️

Now that's my kind of 'busy'. As for traffic, the council should only allow locals (issued with a permit?) to drive around such narrow streets, obviously along with public transport, delivery vans etc.

Once a lovely old coastal town ,remained the same for centuries but now sadly lost its oldie world charm from insensitive modernisation ,pvc window frames extensions ect.
It would have appeared more dramatic if you chose a time when the tide was in.
I wanted the tide to be out so I could film a walk across to the island John otherwise I totally agree!
