Das Gewandhaus-Quartett ist nicht allein die älteste, praktisch durchgehende Quartettformation der Welt (gegründet 1808), sondern meines Erachtens (in dieser Besetzung) eines der besten Streichquartette der Welt. Die Einspielungen etwa der kompletten Beethoven-Quartette ist nach wie vor maßstabsetzend. Ebenso das hier zu sehende Haydn-Quartett. Höchste Klangkultur und musikalische Klarheit der Leipziger ist wohl kaum zu überbieten.
I think this one is my favourite of the Haydn quartets.
