In today’s post, I’m sharing my story about stepping away from experiential marketing and diving into the insurance industry-specifically Property and Casualty (PNC) insurance.
It wasn’t an easy ride, but it was one filled with valuable lessons:
    1. The Unexpected Pivot
When global events halted public gatherings, the experiential marketing industry took a hit. During this downtime, I jumped into the insurance world and founded Colorado Craft Insurance, despite having zero sales experience. Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone!
    2. Facing New Challenges
Transitioning to commission-based sales and over-the-phone selling was a huge learning curve. My marketing background gave me insight into customer behavior, but the insurance industry had its own set of rules-everything from licensing to generating leads was completely new to me.
    3. Mentorship is Everything
Finding someone to guide you is crucial when starting from scratch. For me, that was Cody Gaskins. He wasn’t in PNC at the time, but his insights helped me navigate the complexities of the insurance world. Learning how to build from the ground up was a constant theme throughout this journey.
    4. Trying, Failing, and Trying Again
I attempted everything-ads on Facebook, UA-cam, networking in local groups, and even tapping into my personal network. But securing the necessary carriers to scale the business was an uphill battle. Ultimately, I decided to shut down the agency.
    5. Key Takeaways from the Experience
Though the business didn’t succeed, the lessons I gained were priceless. Persistence, never settling for average, and always being ready to make the extra call or send that extra email are values that carry over into every part of my career now.
    Final Thought: Fail, Learn, Succeed
Failure isn’t the end of the road-it’s a stepping stone. Every failure teaches you something, and every lesson helps you move closer to success. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the risks I took and the lessons I learned.
